Please take a few minutes to click on this link and read and hopefully sign the petition. Punjabi terms are translated for anyone who may not be familiar with them. Giani (a knowledgable one in Sikh practice, scriptures and history and other disciplines) Rann Singh ji, at the request of sikh youth in the UK and with the blessing of the leader of their jatha (battalion or group), arrived in the UK from Baba Bakala, near Amritsar to teach gurbani santhya (reading of scriptures) and vidya (sikh education) to Singhs in the UK. They are now posted as head granthi ji at Shepherds Bush Gurdwara. Giani is head Granthi (chief practician of scriptures) at their jatha and has undergone immense training from a young age to reach this position. Already many if us have benefited greatly from their teachings and example. If you are interested in learning from them please note there is a gurbani santhya class run by Giani ji personally on Saturdys 4.30pm- 6.30pm. You will not regret attendance. Unfortunately a very few but nonetheless vocal members of the Gurdwara committee at Shepherds Bush do not agree with their presence at the gurdwara if they are adorned in their resplendent bana (full traditional blue robes) and traditional warrior turban (dhamalla). They therefore wish Giani to change to 'regular granthi dresscode' or leave the gurdwara which would naturally cause outcry amongst the sikh youth. Of course in the strict code they have adopted, Gianni cannot and should not bend to the will of the committee in this regard. However, rather than be confrontationally critical of the committee members, wise sikhs have chosen to demonstrate their support of gianni ji with this online petition. shaheediyan Posted April 30, 2010 Author Report Share Posted April 30, 2010 That's fine, but real issue is that the location of SB Gurdwara is excellent for Sikh youth across London (as its central), as well as teh many Sikh students living in Central London who attend one of the many Universities there. I have been told, that Nihang Singh is only allowed to complete 5 of his daily 21 Banis at the Gurdwara, the rest, he has been told to complete at his flat (gyani accomodation). 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ishvar2 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Share Posted April 30, 2010 (edited) Found out this morning that the gianiji does 21 bani's a day and the committee stopped him saying you can do only 5 in the gurdawara as per rehat maryada, and the rest he has to do in flat next door. ishvar2 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Share Posted April 30, 2010 More info from the petition page: 'To: Central Gurdwara (Khalsa Jatha) London, Committee members, trustees and all affiliated parties Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Throughout the World, and throughout the ages, Bani, Sikhi Dharam and Maryada has been disrespected, this has been done throughout history, but now ironically it is being done by our own. Guru Ji has given Hukam for Sikhs to have Bani and Bana. Guru Ji's Bana is now being attacked. Central Gurdwara, Shepherds Bush, London, did the great seva of calling over Giani Runn Singh Ji from Tarna Dal Baba Bkala knowing full well the maryada he kept. The Gurdwara was setting very high standards for the rest of the UK to follow and we commended them for their efforts of calling someone of Giani Ji's stature and level of knowledge. Giani Ji runs Santhya classes everyday of the week, as well as doing the seva he was called over for which was to be head Granthi. Since being here for approximately 3 months, the committee has on numerous occasions told Giani Ji he has to remove Damalla and Bana. Would they say this to Guru Ji if he came there, would they say it to Guru Roop Panj Piyare? The end point being if he does not then Giani Ji will be forced out. We ask you for your help to show support to Giani Ji that we will defend not only him but also Guru Ji's Bana. These are not issues that should be coming from a Panthic Gurdwara such as Central Gurdwara. Please let us show Guru Roop Sadh Sangat's sharda paavna and josh, and get this sorted, not only for Giani Ji, but for us, so that we can continue to learn from him.
