kdsingh80 Posted December 5, 2012 Report Share Posted December 5, 2012 AMRITSAR: In a shocking incident, one Ranbir Singh Rana, recently appointed general secretary of district Akali Dal today shot dead Punjab Police ASI, Ravinder Pal Singh, in broad day light here. ASI’s only fault was that he had objected to Rana’s attempts to harass his young daughter and in the fit of rage Rana opened fire, fatally injuring Ravinder Pal who breathed his last at a private hospital where he was rushed for the treatment. There was a wave of shock in the city which has already been seeing a spurt in the crime as the political patronage is visible among the goonda elements in the 'holy city’. Ironically, Rana was recently given the post of a general secretary for his 'services to the party’ by district Akali Dal Chief Upkar Singh, a close associate of Revenue Minister Information Minister Bikram Singh Majithia as well as MP Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu. The track record of Rana was suspicious as he had been often involved in number of brawls and clashes but was considered an 'asset’ by the ruling Akali Dal. The sources said that he had been harassing ASI’s daughter and he had been warned. Today again when he passed objectionable remarks to her, she told her father who went to the home of Rana asking him to behave but Rana took the pistol out and opened fire and by the time ASI could react he fell to the ground. The ASI was posted at Gharinda Police Station while his residence was at Chheherta, on the outskirts of the city where Rana was also living and he used to harass ASI’s young daughter. The incidents of eve-teasing are already on the rise and the incident has in the close proximity of Shruti Scandal as the minor daughter was abducted on gun point by one Youth Akali leader in Ferozepur who is currently behind bars. Commissioner of police Ram Singh who rushed to the spot promised action but the culprit was absconding. Gundagardi is on rise in Punjab.In September there was another famous case of Shruti Sachdeva kidnapped by Nishan singh brar on gun point.Though there was love angle but Shruti was only 15-16 while Nishan singh brar was also 18-19.
