Case Study 1 - Slander (Ninda)

How does one deal with slander (Ninda) of oneself and backbiting (Chuglee) at a workplace, according to Gurmat?

Like for example, if you come to know that some people are spreading false information or making fun about you at a workplace, how should one deal with it?

If someone, who is in good terms with you, keeps exposing other people to you; how does one handle this situation? This is kind of tricky, as you don't want to spoil your relations with that person too. The situation gets even worse, if senior level management people are being exposed to you, as then you would start loosing your trust in them.

Please do provide insights. Personal experiences would be great too.

Thanks

Given that you did not do anything they are saying, it is very good. Kabir Jee says nindak is my true friend he cleans my karma with his tongue. Dont stop them it will help  you a lot spiritually, like in Bhagti.

Keep a happy face, truth will eventually prevails.

If someone do ninda with you in company, Avoid that person like toxic. Make excuses that you are busy or better leave the place for a moment. Thats why Guru jee says keep some level of non attachment with your surroundings, because result of hearing slander is Dokh dristi. You will see evil in all and spiritually that is a death sentence. Guru Amar das Jee maharaj say Har bin awar na dekho koi. Its good to follow Guru's advice.

I would confront them . Then its out in the open , if its work related tell them to talk to you face to face . Go see the top Manager , there are rules and regulations that people should follow at a workplace. If its affecting your work , you are feeling intimidated , being picked on etc.. speak to your manager , HR department .

If you are not in the wrong , after confrontation it will soon stop , dont brush it under the carpet.

Be Humble.

Stay low..............stop trying to fit in with the rest of them.

I do agree with the above. To add to it, one should talk, only when necessary. Staying quite can avoid many problems too.

What should one do, if someone lays false allegations on you and the issue has gone to HR? One could potentially loose his job, if one does not expose the falsehood.

Sangat jee, please provide insights.

Thanks

You need to write it down, and go through the appropriate channels if bullying is taking place. If your manager doesn’t care, take it higher up. Be assertive, ie stick up for yourself and your rights. We are taught to be strong, to fight for justice and attack if needed, not be passive. Don’t forget that Guru Nanak walked into Mecca like a badass, imagine someone doing that now or especially back in those days. Every Guru up to the last one had/ has strength and an I don’t give a f**k attitude. They don’t care what others think of them, they do what they need to and what they want.
