Simran is definitely an antidote to the mental stress and buzz of modern life.

This type of transcendental meditation (TM) is quite popular among many Hollywood celebrities to deal with stress and  anxiety. I will take a look how they are packaging it but it looks like lot of people do simran not for higher goal even for health and mental benefits. Simran means different thing for different people depending on the situations in their life and spiritual development stage.

Were you doing TM or a different type of meditation? With TM having a bit more anxiety near the beginning of practice is pretty common yet it tends to subside after a month or so of daily practice. Your anxiety might exist for a reason and dipping into meditation makes the reasons harder to ignore. If you are willing to come to terms with what makes you anxious and change, meditation helps with that. If you want to avoid changing then it is going to be like pulling teeth. You just become more aware of your habits so the bad habits are no longer as rewarding since you see their impact more fully. :)
