Bro, you need to listen to your body.

Try this:

Take the Ayurvedic medication as mentioned above and do the Jaaps. Try it for like 2-3 months. If your situation does not improve, then go the Psyhiatrist.

Bhul chuk maaf

Will try the Jaaps first

Dear OP,

It is very important that you make an appointment with your family physician. He will set you up with a Psychiatrist, They are the ones to make the diagnosis. Please, do not make the diagnosis on your own. OCD not only affects your Sikhi , it can also affect your daily life.  Don't worry they wont start you on pills right away. They can guide you to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Meditation Sessions. This will also help with mind control. Also, does your family know about it. OCD is very real, please do not delay a doctors visit.

You can also look up CBT on your own, if you like.  There are many techniques that will help you. But please do see a psychiatrist.

Bro, one of the medications prescribed is Prozak (not entirely sure about its spelling), for OCD, which has side effects. That happens, if a doctor decides that your case is severe.

I did watch some CBT videos, but when I get bad thoughts related to Guru Ji or stuff against Gurmat I usually feel down because its building up bad karma, especially when my head says something bad about sants.

Brother, negative thoughts will trouble you. This is normal. As long as you don't convert those thoughts into words/actions, you will be fine. Don't cling to those thoughts. Just ignore them.

Paapiman, you fudhu, stop acting like a GP, let him get professional help instead of hitting him up with a bunch of suggestions when you don't have any medical experience.

This is serious.

Have to tried to listen to bani via audio instead? Is that better? Do that instead if it helps.

Brother you NEED to see a doctor asap.

You need to see a specialist.

Encourage the brother to go to a specialist for God's sake.

He's family also need to get knowledge and possibly support about the condition.

I know people with OCD too, doesn't mean I jump in like specialist.

Bro, let him try the Jaap. If the situation does not improve, he has no option left. He must go to a specialist/Psychiatrist.

But the worst thing is at times to read any shabad/bani is really hard for me. My mind just feels fried/blocked.

Just keep trying bro. Keep trying harder. Focus on pictures of Maharaaj. Print large pictures of Maharaaj (the ones you like) in your room and focus on them.

Listen to Katha/Kirtan. It might be easier for you to focus in them, rather than doing Naam Simran.

Okay, but Singh11 seek help quickly too, so it doesn't get worse, it's the smart thing to do.

Prozac ( Fluoxetine) [SSRI] is definitely a treatment , but it can be prescribed only by a Family physician or a Psychiatrist. It will take 4-6 weeks to work. He definitely needs a re-assessment especially since its affecting his daily life and his weight.

I am all in favor of Jaap, but Jaap will lose it effect if mind is running around and lustful thoughts are attacking.

He needs a quick assessment, and then he can continue on with the Jaap.

I used to recite Japji Sahib along with audio, but kept pausing it as i missed some parts out. Still ended up taking a long time, I do listen to some banis but I dont pay attention.

@singh11 - Bro, how many symptoms (from the list below) are you facing with?

Quote

  • Washers are afraid of contamination. They usually have cleaning or hand-washing compulsions.
  • Checkers repeatedly check things (oven turned off, door locked, etc.) that they associate with harm or danger.
  • Doubters and sinners are afraid that if everything isn’t perfect or done just right something terrible will happen, or they will be punished.
  • Counters and arrangers are obsessed with order and symmetry. They may have superstitions about certain numbers, colors, or arrangements.
  • Hoarders fear that something bad will happen if they throw anything away. They compulsively hoard things that they don’t need or use.

Just talking to the Sangat on here has made me feel better, I don't really talk about these issues cause I don't have any practicing Sikh friends, but i feel more focused now.

Bro, book an appointment with a Psychiatrist asap. Your case is not mild. You fall in more than 3 categories.

You can keep doing the Jaap along with it.

Bro, I encourage you to talk about your issues openly here. We are very welcoming. Writing can also be a form of therapy sometimes. Let it all out & stay focused!
