Interesting to note that even though Islam strictly forbids alcohol, both these personalities had to be born in Muslim families, due to consumption of alcohol in their previous lives.

Does anyone know why that would be?

I might be wrong, but I think Prem Sumarag says something similar??

Gurparsaad, Daas will check it out later.

Based on this Rehatnama (Bhai Desa Singh), it should not be a big surprise that one of the greatest warriors of the Misal period, Sardar Charat Singh Sukarchakia (grandfather of M.Ranjit Singh) was a heavy drinker. He probably got addicted to it.

@dalsingh101 @GurjantGnostic - Alcohol consumption has been allowed for Sikhs, before entering a battlefield. Other than that, it is strictly prohibited.

The below is from Bhai Desa Singh Rehatnama.

Please read the First line in the image below.

Desa Singh rahit seems inconsistent about meat and alcohol, look at line 102??

That's part of Langar Bidhi.

The Singh(s) who prepare Degh must never consume Alcohol and Meat.

Looks at lines 103/104, do they seem strange to you?

Line 103 seems to be going against Gurmat.

Was Bhai Desa Singh jee from a Brahman caste? Bhai Prahlaad Singh jee (who also wrote a Rehatnama) was probably a Brahman Sikh.

Bhai Chaupa Singh jee was also a Brahman Sikh.

That's the only case I could see condoning anyone do it and even then only the ones who are mentally so shutdown they aren't functioning. I personally would like my mind immersed in Naam Jaap and not be drunk if I Shaheed.

Not everyone's mind is capable of war without something.

I would use Saheed Degh and Bhang before, during and after.

I would only touch afeem if I was so horrendously messed up I couldn't focus on Naam Simran.

Krishan ji also cursed alcohol, as the yadavs killed each other after drinking it. I think it's mentioned in Mahabharat.

If you read Krishanavtar, you will find a lot about a particular drink which they drank after having won the battles and for recreation . Not sure if it was alcohol or something else, translation varies.
