questions regarding Sri Guru Granth Sahib on how many worlds are there

Recommended Posts

I saw this question in the comment section of a youtube video.

how do you explain the questions in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib on how many worlds are there? In Ang 57, there are apparently 3 worlds: ਿਤ ਭਵਿਣ ਸੋ ਪ ਭੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੫॥. taribhavan so parabh jaanee-ai saacho saachai naa-ay. ||5||. God is known throughout the three worlds. True is the Name of the True One. ||5||. In Ang 292, there are supposedly 2 worlds:ਦਹੁ ੂਪਾਖਕਾਆਪਿਹਧਨੀ॥. duhoo paakh kaa aapeh Dhanee. He Himself is the Master of both worlds. In Ang 299, there are 14 worlds: ਚਾਿਰ ਕੁੰਟ ਚਉਦਹ ਭਵਨ ਸਗਲ ਿਬਆਪਤ ਰਾਮ ॥. chaar kunt cha-odah bhavan sagal bi-aapat raam. The Lord is pervading in all the four directions and the fourteen worlds.

The English translations are very off.  Many people get confused with the worlds defined as planets.  When in reality Guru Maharaj ji is describing the spirtual planes(realms), the higher ones and lower ones, 14, .  Also all together they are sometimes mentioned as 3 lokas.  Any advanced seeker can tell you more about them. @Lucky  Has previously posted stuff about them before as well I believe.

As for planets, in the scientific sense, Guru maharaj ji says anek, kot , or countless.

Bro, these are not physical worlds like earth. they are realms. Tri lok is refered to as Pataal Lok, Maat Lok and Par lok (i think). Although at times they have been represented at living worlds they are not this in totality.

Sri Dasme Patshah's Granth Sahib also talks fo different numbers of worlds:

That Thou art the Enjoyer Entity of three worlds!

His Light illumines the fourteen worlds. I.

Sometimes we humans ask each other "what world are you living in?" We don't mean the actual world but are talking about the reality in which we see ourselves and others.

They are physical, but they are not made up of the same five elements as the Maat Lok. One needs to be of certain avastha or have certain supernatural powers to see them.

Your mistaking it. The 14 realms/worlds  as stated are the 14 plains of existence in the material world. These are divided into 3 - the higher (spiritual), the intermediate (self-explanatory) and the lower totally material.. so there are 14 of which each are part of the 3 divisions. The universe is spherical in shape and contain all of these. Aboding Above all and inside all is the creator is WAHEGURU. 🙏🏽

The 3 worlds/lokas or planes are as following: the physical or gross one, the astral, and the causal.

All of these in time are subject to decay and dissolution, in Parlay or Mahaparlay

Above these 3,  is Parbrham, the pure spiritual realm which has it highest peak in Sach Khand, the ultimate, changeless, eternal and infinite, the permanent abode of Waheguru Akal Purukh, where only He exists, and whosoever reaches there by His grace, also becomes one with Him.
