Some Light on Bhakti ...

The  whole world is engaged in some type of devotions.

Many think reciting scriptures, fasting, pilgrimages,  idol worship, etc . are real forms of worship, and then, the blind fight and quarrel among themselves, as each think, their path, their method, is the only correct one, thus they try to impose on others, for that,  they go to the extent  on inflicting pain and torture on our fellow  human beings.

We tend to forget, that there is only one Truth, creative force, namely Nam or Shabad as per Bani.  And this Supreme Consciouss powrer has created everything, seen or invisible, all creatures, all beings, whether of different caste, creed, gender or nationality

Different people in different dharams, are born accordingly to their past own karam, as per laws of Nature, of which are not consciouss at all.

Different thing is, if anyone misbehaves or acts as beasts,  they should be punished as per constitutional laws, not fanatical laws.

In the Bani, it is stated clearly, some are deluded, and some are put on the right path of devotion, all per His Hukum.

So have we ever asked ourselves, how can we ever blame anyone, for being born in a particular dharam, caste or  nation? What is their fault?

Should we not feel pity for them, instead of hatred ?

Should we not pray to Wahiguru, to bless us to remain in His hukum, instead of trying  to impose our judgements, and aslo sincerely pray for them, so that one day, they too get blessed and have the chance of being on the right path, not to the label of any particular religion, but that path of devotion, which can reunite us with that our origin, as said before, Nam or Shabad, which we all popularly call also Wahiguru Akal Purukh.

So as per the title of this post, have we ever asked ourselves,  which is that real devotion, which is effective and accepted at His Court and turns us from manmukhs to gurmukhs?

To this our question or doubt, Dhan Dhan Satguru Arjun Dev Maharaj tells us  in His Bani of Raag  Dhanaasree:

ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥

Jaap Thaap Bhagath Saa Pooree Jo Prabh Kai Man Bhaaee ||

That alone is perfect chanting, meditation, penance and devotional worship service, which is pleasing to God's Mind.

* He says, that practice is perfect devotion, which pleases Him.  So then a question once again arises in our mind, which is that perfect fruitful devotion.

To that, He also answers in the following next verse:

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਬੁਝੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਈ

Naam Japath Thrisanaa Sabh Bujhee Hai Naanak Thripath Aghaaee

Chanting the Naam, all thirst and desire is satisfied; Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled.

* He says, that by chanting the Nam or Nam japna, all our thirst and sincere desire to realize Him and merge in Him, is fulfilled.

That is why also as seen in the folloowing verse, He says that if ever we have to ask Him of anything in our prayers or Ardaas, that is to have mercy upon us, so that we can meditate upon Him.

Thumh Karahu Dhaeiaa Maerae Saaee ||

Have pity on me, O my Lord and Master.

Aisee Math Dheejai Maerae Thaakur Sadhaa Sadhaa Thudhh Dhhiaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||

Bless me with such understanding, O my Lord and Master, that I may forever and ever meditate on You.

After  going through these pearls of wisdom from Guru Jee, it is quite clear, there where we manmukhs, divide and put limitations, or boundaries as per our own agyanta, they, Guru Sahiban,  expand the horizons of their vision and blessings on all, and by distributing equally,  all their spiritual wisdom or wealth, among all beings, because there is only one permanent eternal reality, which is : Nam/Shabad, and no multiple gods, goddesses, devis, devtays, prophets,  nor incarnations, as many proclaim it to be.

For that Truth Of Nam and Shabad, is :Sabna jeea ka Iko Daata.

Sat Sree Akal.

Why do we need a Master (Guru)?

Once upon a time, a cow went out to graze in the jungle. Suddenly, she noticed a tiger racing towards her. She turned and fled, fearing that at any moment the tiger would sink his claws into her. The cow desperately looked for someplace to escape and at last, saw a shallow pond. Barely evading the tiger’s reach, she jumped into the pond, and in the heat of the chase, the tiger blindly leaped after her.

To the surprise of them both, the pond was extremely shallow yet filled with deep recesses of mud. After toppling over each other, the cow and the tiger found themselves a short distance apart, stuck in the mud up to their necks. Both had their heads above water but were unable to free themselves no matter how much they writhed.

The tiger repeatedly snarled at the cow and roared, “I am going to enjoy the sound of crunching your bones between my teeth!”

He thrashed about in fury but soon became fretful as he found no prospect of escape.

The cow thoughtfully laughed as the tiger struggled to free himself and asked him, “Do you have a master?”

The tiger disdainfully replied, “I am the king of the jungle. Why do you ask me if I have a master? I myself am the master!”

The cow said, “You may be the king of the jungle, but here all your power has failed to save your life.”

“And what about you?” Retorted the tiger. “You are going to die here in this mud too!”’

The cow smiled mildly and said, “No, I am not.”

“If even I, the king of the jungle cannot free myself from this mud”, snapped the tiger, “Then how can you, an ordinary cow?”

The cow gently replied, “I cannot free myself from this mud, but my master can. When the sun sets and he finds me absent at home, he will come looking for me. Once he finds me, he will raise me up and escort me home sweet home.”

The tiger fell silent and coldly glared at the cow.

Soon enough, the sunset and the cow’s master arrived. He immediately recognized the plight she was in and lifted her to safety. As they walked home, the cow and the master both felt renewed gratitude for one another and pitied the tiger they both would have been happy to save if only the tiger had allowed them.

The cow represents a surrendered heart, the tiger represents an egoistic mind, and the master represents the Guru.  The mud represents the world, and the chase represents the struggle for existence therein.

Its good to be independent and not rely on anyone. But don't take it to an extreme, you always need a partner/coach/mentor who will be always on the lookout for you.

Having them does not mean you are weak, it's just that you can be stronger with their help.

Make sure to share this story with your partner/coach/mentor and express your gratitude.
**Happy Guru Poornima**

WHILE DIFFERENT RELIGIONS BLINDLY  QUARREL AND FIGHT TO IMPOSE AND CONVERT OTHERS TO THEIRS, THE  SIMLICITY AND BEAUTY OF TEACHINGS OF GURU SAHIBAN ARE UNIVERSAL  FOR ALL MANKIND, IRRESPECTIVE OF CATSE, CLASS , NATIONALITY OR RELIGION, FULL OF MERCY, LOVE AND BLISS.
FOLLOWING ARE JUST A FEW  VERSES OF SREE GURU NANAK DEV, WHICH CONFIRM THE ABOVE STATEMENT AND WHICH FAIRLY AND CORRECTLY DESCRIBE THE HIGHEST TRUE LORD.

Balihaaree Kudharath Vasiaa
I am a sacrifice to Your almighty creative power which is pervading everywhere.
Thaeraa Anth N Jaaee Lakhiaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
Your limits cannot be known

Jaath Mehi Joth Joth Mehi Jaathaa Akal Kalaa Bharapoor Rehiaa ||
Your Light is in Your creatures, and Your creatures are in Your Light; Your almighty power is pervading everywhere.

* In this verse above, He is saying, there is no such being in which He does not exist, be it a muslim,  a hindu,  a christian, a buddhist, or even animals or non believers, or even in the different gods, devtays, incarnations, prophets....

Thoon Sachaa Saahib Sifath Suaaliho Jin Keethee So Paar Paeiaa ||
You are the True Lord and Master; Your Praise is so beautiful. One who sings it, is carried across.

*And in this verse above, He proclaims that, this very Lord which is already within each and everbody and place, no need for foolish hatred , and He is so merciful,  that without any conversions, killings or disputes,  if anyone  just sings His praises,  that being, that soul is carried across from this plane of falsehood and dissolution, to His abode of  love, bliss and  eternity.
This is the unique wadeeayee(greatness) of  the teachings of our beloved Guru Sahiban, namely sikhee.

Supreme importance of Naam bhakti, above all other practices  for the sole purpose of our union with Him, Waheguru Akal Purukh.

If the Lord's Name abides within the mind, for a moment, even for an instant, it is like bathing at all the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

Filth does not stick to those who are true, but filth attaches itself to those who love duality.

Dhhothee Mool N Outharai Jae Athasath Theerathh Naae ||

This filth cannot be washed off, even by bathing at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

The self-willed manmukh does deeds in egotism; he earns only pain and more pain.

Dharasan Paavaa Jae Thudhh Bhaavaa ||

If I am pleasing to You, Lord, then I obtain the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.

Raag Maroo  Dhan Dhan Satgur  Nanak Dev Maharaj

Guru Jee, in His beautiful line above is telling us that , all of us want to have His darshan somehow, but the thing is,  as He says, I get your darshan if, it pleases You, or if  You are pleased, it is the same thing.

So according to the  Bani, what is it,  that which Guru Jee constantly keeps repeating throughout the Bani to do, in order to please Him.

The clear cut answer to this question in simple and direct words, is also given by Guru Jee in the following verse, though  sadly many jeevas are deluded in man-mat, in doing what they see others do, but, never ever try to understand what the Bani is telling us to do really to please Him, and thus fulfill our purpose as human beings.

Saachae Bhaavai Sabadh Piaaraa ||

The True Lord is pleased with those who love the Shabad. And so how do we love the Shabad? Well, by meditating on it, only. Through Simran/focused  and attentive  jaap.

Here Guru Jee is flatly telling us we manmukhs, how to please Him. For as seen what the whole wolrld do,  absolutely everybody does that thing, which they think is for their benefit somehow.

Nobody ever stops to ask himself/herslf: whatsoever I do as bhakti as per my view, is that pleasing to Him?

If not, then why do we keep on doing it?

Of what use is   that our manmat?

Why so much lack of faith and futile discernment, in the teachings of our Guru Sahiban and Bhagat Jan?

Why?

In another verse of Guru Jee, He tells us:

ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਏ ਨਾ ਵੀਛੁੜਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

Saach Milai So Saachae Bhaaeae Naa Veeshhurr Dhukh Paaeidhaa ||12||

The True Lord is pleased with those who merge in Truth; they are not separated again, and they do not suffer.

Once again, we may ask or think, which Truth is reffering to, Guru Jee above?  And how do we merge in it?

Well, the Truth is only One.  Shabad/Naam / Sat-Nam (Ik Oankar Satnam). And merging in this Truth, is  meditating on it so much with love and devotion, that we get merged and dissolved in It.

Once merged in Nam and becoming one with Him, as seen in the second half of the verse above, we are not born anymore in the ever suffering wheel of 84.

So much grace is being showered by  Waheguru, yet we remain empty, for engaging in doing all those things which  not only do not  bring us closer to Him, but rather, take us farther away from Him,  such as ..... reciting, bathing and pilgrimages, etc.... all these things, keep us outside, while our goal (Waheguru)is within us.

And that what we  ought to do, we simply dislike it and take it as a fantasy,  or pure theory only;  when the fact is, the devotion suggested by Guru Sahiban, is the ONLY Bhakti which has real value or results in terms of pleasing Him, and thus God realization.

Stay blessed.

SSA.
