Getting into a Gurdwara ?

Recommended Posts

When will the youth begin to get involved in maintaining and running the gurdwaras as warm caring, learning resource centers ?

Will we have to wait until, the old commitee's die off or is there anyone out there who is actively involved in running gurdwara sahibs?

Also what things should be in a gurdwara for people's needs ?

the committee's of my local gurdwaras only care about the money they make.

Only 2 months ago, barking gurdwara in east london was robbed of all its cash.

Guess who it was?

It was the parbandak committee.

Everyone found out.

pathetic!

bhul chuk maaf karna

I looked at the requirements that our Gurdwara has for holding executive office.

Must be a Keshdari Sikh :sikhiwink1: :sikhiwink2:

And...

Must have been a dues-paying member for the previous 10 years  :!:  :!:

At that rate, assuming I don't have to relocate anyplace, I'll be in my mid-40s by the time I'll qualify :(

Actually, you have to deal with the committee as if you are dealing with a whole load of indian housewives...trust me they are very good at talking and their motives are never fully revealed for anything (no offence to anyone who has relatives on a Gurdwara committee) Plus you have to arrange things and ask for permission until the very last moment so that no one can then cancel your plans, and in turn you have to become good at talking yourself.

Over in our city, we had the first lady pardhaan of one of my Gurdware who was really quite good. Even though not in the position anymore, she still gets up and goes to the Gurdwara 4am to make the parote after Mahraj's parkash.

The only thing I can say is forget about committees, the youth can do alot behind the scenes and you don't get the hassle either.

a sure fire winner "uncle ji, we are wanting to do the following event with the sikh society, _____________, because we want to bring the youth into the Gurdwara."

so far we have managed to do

1)daily naam simran sessions in the darbar sahib

2)gurmat classes in the evening - sukhmani sahib translation

- japp ji sahib translation

- jaap sahib translation

3)keertan programs

4)all nighter student rehnsbhai's

5)gatka classes

6)shastar vidiya classes

7)sava rakhsha - self defence classes

8)making the food and tea at the Gurdwara for talks at uni

9)homeless seva (take left over langar to feed the homeless and give to shelters)

10)rehraas sahib done by students

11)parshaad seva

12)japji sahib rohls

13)cake cutting for Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birthday

14) playing tolki for when Guru Ji goes to sachkhand at night

we even got to keep a couple of vaja's from the classes for keertan they had.

Its all good :D
