Relatives of a 35-year-old man from Mallan village in Gidderbaha, who faces beheading in Saudi Arabia, are seeking financial assistance from public to save his life.

Notably, Balwinder Singh would be executed if he fails to pay Rs 2 crore blood money to a family there by May 15. Balwinder was held guilty of killing a Saudi Arabian national in 2013. He had gone to the Middle East in 2008.

 

Hardeep Singh, cousin of Balwinder, said, “There was a dispute between a Punjabi youth and Saudi Arabian national. Balwinder just intervened. As the Saudi resident tried to kill him with a knife, Balwinder hit him with a stick in self-defence. The man lost his life after four days of hospitalisation. Balwinder was first awarded imprisonment for seven years. Thereafter, the court told him to pay blood money of Rs 2 crore by November 8, 2021, to the deceased’s family or face beheading.”

Another cousin, Joginder Singh, said, “After Balwinder pleaded for some time to arrange money, he was given a deadline till May 15. We have collected around Rs 1.3 crore. Balwinder has also arranged Rs 40 lakh. Now, we are short of Rs 30 lakh.”

Hardeep said, “We appeal to the philanthropists and the state government to help us. Balwinder is lodged in Riyadh jail.”

Gurpreet Kaur, sarpanch, Dadu Mohalla Mallan, said, “The family is speaking truth. They do not have money or land to save the life of Balwinder. We will go to meet the Deputy Commissioner tomorrow in this regard.”

I don't know the stats. But that wouldn't surprise me, especially in areas like Doaba. I think at ground level, concentrations differed from area to area with some Sikh strongholds and some Muslim dominated villages etc.

They are not rebuilding 13,000 mosques just yet (though clearly the intention is there) but at least 1,000 mosques have been reactivated as east Punjab is a non-BJP safe haven (soft touch) for Muslims where the local kaffir population instead of being hostile to the Slavemaster religions are naive enough to build mosques with Sikh funds at the behest of forces that desire to make Sikhs a minority in east Punjab by the 2031 census.

also as Sikhs and Hindus are moving out you are going to find large number of them move here from central India where Hindus are doing all this tamasha. Muslims dont mind living in poverty and having like 10 kids that they cant feed whereas Sikhs and Hindus look for comfort and will run away at the slightest discomfort unfortunately.They see Punjab as a safe haven from hindutva as they know dumb Sikhs will bend over for them. When that incident with gujjars happened recently alot of dumb Sikhs from Punjab were saying dont flame communal issues like what even. What can you do for a kaum that is asleep? That cannot see who is our enemy? Sikhs always want to prove to to others how good they are. They always want to be in everyone's good books because of being minority they suffer from inferiority complex. So they never take a stand that benefits them. They are committing self suicide.

partly. There is a mosque next to our ancestral home and now its filled with them and sometimes even roads get blocked during their Friday prayers. It wasn't like this a decade ago. Alot of them setlling in Punjab now.

Not surprising. Apnay seem determined to leave. Whenever there is a void, people will fill it. If we did a decent job in assimilating migrants over a generation or two like other nations do, we wouldn't have this issue, but I think parchaar is weak overall. It's almost like institutes like SGPC are happy with their gravy train and don't feel they have to make any serious effort as the money keeps rolling in.  

 

Plus people seem to have a stronger connection to their caste identity than dharam. That would be felt by outsiders as lack of unity, and by implication strength.

Some of our people still have fight in them. Don't be under any illusion about that. It's just that they'll usually fight for self-serving purposes rather than anything panthic.   

 

I remember about 17/18 years ago (maybe longer?) a muslim asked Singh Sabha Barking for donations to help get some medical procedure for his ill son. I remember certain apnay scoffing (at that time) that he asked a Gurdwara because he knew he was unlikely to get help from a mosque. 

Do many of our people not feel strong affinity for their own dharam? That's the pertinent question.
