are these kirpans acceptable

Mugermach, I dont know but I want to remain in the rehat and do as has been told. Kirpans should be worn in the gatra.. all amritdharis wear that way.... and all should alike and plus it should be a kirpan thta should be accepted by the sikhi... not a ninja or a kitchen knife. I dont know much about shasters, but I do know that we kepe the kirpan to protect ourselves, when it comes to getting the job done.. if a kitchen knife is fine and so is my small kirpan with a not good enouh grip.. i can easily stab someone and can do the samething with my salai.

I am not in need of a highly sophiscticated military type of knife. I need a 'Kirpan' ... and most Kirpans can get the job done. ... all I need is one of a bigger strenght, a stronger blade and a sharper one. Thats all.

SB thats a nice kirpan, how much it costs? is it on sale.

steel bangle where u get that kirpan from.......looks decent if its sarbloh

DO NOT underestimate the importance of sarbloh.....sarbloh holds special significance in sikhi which we will understand at higher spiritual levels

i know sum1 who has a replica of guru gobind singhs kirpan.......so we shud all aim for a kirpan like that.....similar shaped blade as SBs photo, all sarbloh, with a bigger handle all 100percent sarbloh

i found that on a site.... so i wudnt know how much it costs :P

i took a pic of my one... which i got from india a few yrs ago - it was about 500 rupees.. roughly 10 pounds... (in those days)

the pic doesnt really show the carving on the sheath and handle... the handle has a pouncing tiger... the sheath has a Ek O-unkar with "satnam waheguru" around it.. bottom portion has a lotus flower and the top has a peacock - all in all its about 14 inches long handle to tip

someone i know can sharpen it at his workplace - he works in a metal factory but i dont think i wanna trust him with it jus in case he messes it up

Steel Bangle, the one you show in your 1st post before, that has a nice shaster. The blade extends all the way to through to the handle. Thats a good sign of a shaster.

The one before that, the one with a circular wooden handle, that will snap when used. Not that good.

jjj. Just leting you know about kirpans, didnt mean to come off a bit rude in previous posts. But if you want to stay within reht, then learn to use the shaster you wear. Also, kirpans are not worn in a gatra, there is a technique of tying them into your kamar kaas. The salai is probably a better shaster than a 'so called' kirpan. Becasue, if you did stap some1 you have a better chance of getting away with it, but we are all law-biding citzens. :D

all I need is one of a bigger strenght, a stronger blade and a sharper one. Thats all.

Learn to use one, then you will see its inner strengh. A stronger blade.... I still recommend Damacus or Cold Steel. Unless of course you want to get a sarbloh one, which is difficult to find. That is Ok too.

KS. Thats kirpan is not made of sarbloh. Its made of Mild Steel, probably not even stainless or now way near the standard of gun metal.

Also, please translate Sarb-Loh into modern metal, Sarb is Pure, Loh is Iron, Pure Iron is Metal will little to non Carbon, i.e no impurites. May i ask the you if you know what Steel is made from?

P.s Steel Bandle, That shaster can be sharpened up Very Nicely if you want. It will eaily cut Flesh. I have one similar to it.

SukhaSingh. Thats a wicked website, have you seen the posters with Gyni Gian Singhs Caption, ifs thats not a motivating paragraph, i dont know what it...

mugermach... its very stable - the blade actually goes into the handle and the follows along the back of the handle... the wood is basically a grip - ill take another pic lata if i can be bothered

if i send it to that guy to get it sharpened... shouldnt be a chance of it gettin messed up right?

yep, thats a wicked kukri, probably one of the most practical shasters. Never knew there were al ones. Oh well, learn something new everyday. :D

also on the knife tips it said...

I'm sure that there will soon be collectable titanium knives on many custom makers tables, designed to catch collectors, and not for cutting

Im gonna do what any other Panjabi would and plan to prove them wrong. :D

hey all

i neva sed that 1 was sarbloh.....n 2 b honest im nt exactly sure element wise what sarbloh is.........its either pretty much pure iron (Fe) or maybe a bit of carbon.... :?

nyways u know its sarbloh when:

it rusts easily (u can clean wiv lemon n sand)

it smells like ...... well sarbloh

its a darker shade of grey than normal knives

if u give it to a gurmukh he will KNOW its sarbloh without even looking at it (its a 6th sense)

i got one of those kukri knives.....its quite old n big....so no gatras fit it......wats the best way to keep it on me (plz explain in plain english no specialist terms lol)

I got the 12 inch kirpan from sikhlink.net. It is sarbloh, its writen on the blade and it is quite sharp ! Its nice and pretty big and I like it. I am gonna order some more... its better then those kitchen knifes.

The pure iron is a good thing in a weapon and has soom advantage point. If I cut someone with a stainless blade then the wound will heal , but inthe case of pure iron .. the little iron or iron rust can go inside the blood and that can prove fatal to the enemy ! So that will make me use the kirpan under extremely... very extremely rare situation. I dont want to hurt someone so badly, not even a thief.

unless, you cut and anemic person.. lol

jjj, you say that the iron rust can be fatal, could you elaborate on this please. Also, just something that came to mind, whats more fatal, a cut to a maram(weak point on a body) or iron oxide in your blood stream....

can i have a link to the gangstah 12 inch sarbloh kirpan on sikhlink?

can i have it too please. :D

A KIRPAN SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN SELF DEFENCE OR TO UP HOLD RIGHTEOUSNESS

HOW MANY OF YOU THAT WEAR A KIRPAN DO THIS NOT ALOT I MYSELF AM A AMRIT TARI SIKH ANN WEAR A KIRPAN BUT I MYSELF AM ASHAMED O SAY THAT I DO NOT BUT THEN AGAIN NOR DO I GO AROUND LOOKING AT WHICH KIRPAN LOOKS NICE OR IS THE HANDLE INGRAVED SO STOP THINKING OF THESE THINGS IF YOU WANT A KIRPAN IM SURE IF YOU GO TO YOUR LOCAL GURDWARA YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET ONE BUT MAKE SURE AS FELLOW SIKHS HAVE SAID ITS MADE OF SURBLORE

very simple: a kirpan should be sharp so that it can be used and made in such a way that it protects the hand from the blade. The kirpans you see most people wear are ******. Get a kard, pesh kabz, khanjar or kokri: these are proper shastars!!!

im sorry 2 say it, bt that kirpan looks shabby.

32 dollars for that?????? u must be kidding!

i doubt its real sarbloh since the handle n case are stainless steel....and its got a lil girly chain on it

i guess its better than my cheapo "taksali" one, but i wouldnt rinse 25 quid on it...........

surely, somewhere there must be a shop in uk, or a place to order kirpan to uk, where u can get a decent sarbloh blade!

oh and gurdwara dont have them. ive been to all the southall ones, none have a 12 inch one, they have these itty bitty 3 inch stainless steel ones.......

if there was a singh from gurus times who saw some of the stuff that gets passed off for a kirpan today......he wud most definately laugh. a lot.

cant really get that good of a kirpan at gurdwaras. as for asking people, most ppl cant tell, just cos its rusted, doesnt mean its sarbloh.

Khalsa Soulja, The blade has got some amount of rust on it also. It is sarbloh and its engraved on the blade also. The handle might be stainless steel or what, I dont know... The chain is a fashion in punjab these days, Ive seen many ppl wear it. It looks good. The edge if u feel it.. u will know it is sarbloh.. since its not smooth, but sharp.... enough to do the job.
