Restore traditional Takht ‘maryada’, says jatha

Chandigarh, August 5

The Akhand Kirtani Jatha International (Prabandhki Pehchan) today at a meeting appealed to the Akal Takht to restore the old, traditional “maryada’’. This requires that bhog of the akhand path at Akal Takht must end with shabad of "Mundavani", and not at "Ragmala", as the practice was for quite some time now.

A spokesperson of the jatha, Mr Satnam Singh, told TNS that the Jathedar of Akal Takht was appealed to restore the old practice.

The Jatha meeting reiterated that it had always accepted, acknowledged and abided by any edict issued by Akal Takht . Any religious or Panthic issue before any other Takht, on which there was difference of opinion, must also be adjudicated by Akal Takht in conformity with’’ panch pradhani’’, it added.

Mr Satnam Singh giving an example of such a controversial issue, quoted the case of Sikh scholar Giani Gurdit Singh’s book, "Mundavai", which is being currently debated at Takht Patna Sahib. "Such matters should be handled by Akal Takht, as it is an important issue

Please discuss!!

akhand kirtan jatha has always a different way and obligations or restrictions I may say, assigned for reaching a true lord "waheguru ji". God knows y they r different but acc to me "raagmala" should be followed as it would'nt been practiced untill now if "mundavani" has to be replaced now. As it hardly matters after all both are gurubaani. But y so I am confused toooooooooo.

The Akhand Kirtani Jatha International (Prabandhki Pehchan) today at a meeting appealed to the Akal Takht to restore the old, traditional “maryada’’.

Old 'maryada'? Who will decide which was the old 'maryada'? A 'Maryada' invented after 1925 cannot be called 'old maryada'. If 'maryada invented after 1925' is an old maryada, and if it is accepted by this group, then this group should accept that 'kes' is the kakaar, not the keski; and only eating 'kuthha' is 'bajar ku-rahat', not 'meat'. This recently organised group is following 'Miththha miththha ghapp ghapp, kaurha kaurha thhooh' formula.

This requires that bhog of the akhand path at Akal Takht must end with shabad of "Mundavani", and not at "Ragmala", as the practice was for quite some time now.

End with 'Shabd' of 'Mundavani'? What about the next 'Salok' of 'Tera Keeta Jaato Naahi'? Should this 'Salok' not be recited?

A spokesperson of the jatha, Mr Satnam Singh, told TNS that the Jathedar of Akal Takht was appealed to restore the old practice.

How much old? Old 'Maryada', which was being followed before 1925? 'Jhatka' of goats in front of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and applying 'tilak' of blood to the weapons? Or 'slightly new' Maryada should be restored?

The Jatha meeting reiterated that it had always accepted, acknowledged and abided by any edict issued by Akal Takht . Any religious or Panthic issue before any other Takht, on which there was difference of opinion, must also be adjudicated by Akal Takht in conformity with’’ panch pradhani’’, it added.

'Panch Pardhani'? Do they mean 'totally ignore Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Patna Sahib and Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib'? Do they mean don't care what these two 'Takhts' say? First of all learn the meaning of 'Panch Pardhani'. 'Panch Pardhani' does not mean 'Panch Khalsa Divan'.

Mr Satnam Singh giving an example of such a controversial issue, quoted the case of Sikh scholar Giani Gurdit Singh’s book, "Mundavai", which is being currently debated at Takht Patna Sahib.

Satnam Waheguru Ji. Bhai Joginder Singh Ji, the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib himself is summoned in this case. How can he handle this case by himself? Jathedar Akal Takht is the party in this case. He cannot be the judge. Grow up brother. Even a clerk of a lawer knows that 'respondent' (accused) cannot be the 'Judge' in same case.

"Such matters should be handled by Akal Takht, as it is an important issue

Do they want to say that other Takhts should handle only un-important issues?

‘Mundawni author distorted facts’, say Damdami Taksal followers

An excerpt from:

The ongoing controversy over Giani Gurdit Singh’s book ‘Mundawni’ took another turn as followers of [bhindran-kalan, Damdami Taksal] accused him of “distorting” facts to cause unnecessary divisions in the Sikh Panth.

In a communiqué signed by 25 senior ‘sewadars’, the sect has claimed that on inquiring from Jathedars of Takht Patna Sahib (Search), Hazoor Sahib (Search) and Damdama Sahib (Search), they had concluded that Gurdit Singh had distorted facts about ‘Ragmala’ in his book. The communiqué also suggested Jathedar Vedanti to shun ego and accompany Gurdit Singh to Takht Patna Sahib for clarification over the issue.

In his book, Gurdit Singh has reportedly concluded that ‘Ragmala’ was not a part of Guru Granth Sahib. Taking a serious view of this stand, Takht Patna Sahib clergy have already issued summons to Gurdit Singh to appear on August 20 to give clarification on the matter.

Significantly, Takht Patna Sahib clergy have suggested to Gurdit Singh to bring along Akal Takht (Search) Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti (Search) and another scholar Mohan Singh. “When Giani Gurdit Singh visited the holy city to consult the scriptures of Guru Granth Sahib for compilation of ‘Mundawni’, he was accompanied by Jathedar Vedanti and Guard. So, we want to record the version of Gurdit Singh in the presence of these two persons,” Takht Patna Sahib clergy have maintained.

Meanwhile, Gurdit Singh, who is said to enjoy the tactical support of Jathedar Vedanti, is unlikely to appear at Takht Patna Sahib. After securing a month’s respite on health grounds, Gurdit Singh has reportedly shot off another letter to Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh to demand that this case be transferred to the Akal Takht since his health did not allow him to visit Takht Patna Sahib. Secondly, he asserted, since the case involved the entire Sikh ‘panth’, it should be decided at the Akal Takht.

Nevertheless, Jathedar Iqbal Singh was unlikely to oblige him, it was learnt. This issue has already led to eruption of serious differences between Jathedars of Akal Takht and Takht Patna Sahib. The intervention of Bhindran sect, which has a considerable following among the Sikhs, is likely to strengthen the stand of Takht Patna Sahib clergy as it could refuse to shift the case to the Akal Takht.
