Guru Nanak Sahib scientific truths

I found this information on Yahoo Groups which I subscribe too. It might help you with this information.

This is what veer Dalip Singh ji of Kashmir said about Science and Sikhism in his little booklet

which received from gyani ji at Hazoor Sahib. Some extracts from a boolklet called A cursory look at Shree Guru Granth Sahib ( the treasure of

Sipritual, scientific, cultural and musical knowledge) In the present age of science, new discoveries and inventions are achieving new heights every day. This progress has cut distances and remoteness. In this century, scientists have discovered 30,000 genes and other important facts, which have affected man's social life; and this process is still going on.

Space laboratory is sending minute-to-minute information to the scientists. Man has set up its machines in space even at a distance of 310 million kms from the earth. It is really a great wonder of science, knowledge and human achievement. In the western world, scientific and technical

achievements are achieving new levels. Technical Age has amazingly increased production needed for physical needs of man.

But, we must realize that a scientist's field is this material world and they are simply ignorant of the spiritual domain.

Five hundred years ago, Guru Nanak Sahib exhibited and revealed amazing knowledge of scientific truths (at a time when there were available no binoculars and the other instruments on this earth). Even today, only a few scientists have been able to understand just a part of the enigma of the universal reality. Guru Nanak's revelation about scientific and geographical knowledge has been vouchsafed by latest scientific research. All this proves that Guru Nanak had not only a great knowledge of the laws of the universe but also the mystical power, which enabled him to reveal

such great facts of the universe, which the scientists and the other intellectuals could not even perceive due to their limited knowledge.

Guru Nanak Sahib has explained mysteries of physics, chemistry, botany, physiology, geography etc. Hundreds of pages are needed to explain all this but in this article only a cursory look is being made. Gurbani explains most of the scientific facts discovered by the scientists even in the recent past. If we view Guru Nanak Sahib's revelations from fifteenth century perspective, one can be justify in calling him (Guru Nanak) as 'the first great scientist of the world'. It is tragedy of the Sikh nation that its leaders and missionaries have never tried to present this great aspect of the personality of Guru Nanak Sahib before the world. Some of the wonderful facts presented by Guru Nanak Sahib are as follows:

There are numerous moons, stars and galaxies Before Guru Nanak Sahib, it was a general belief, even with the-intellectual community, that the earth is balancing on the horn of a bull ox. No scientist knew that there is more than one earth in this universe. Guru Nanak rejected this notion and said that if this earth is being balanced by a bull ox, then what power is balancing the other earths and planets?

Guru Nanak Sahib explained that the whole of the universe is functioning under natural laws and every phenomenon is happening as per the command of God. The earth, the suns and the stars of the universe don't need any support; rather all of them are functioning in a system of gravitation of earth, sun and moon etc.

Much before the scientists could discover, Guru Nanak Sahib revealed that there were numerous skies, neon-worlds, galaxies, universes, earths, suns, moons and continents. The scientists have still not been able to discover several of them.

So many worlds beyond this world-so very many!

What power holds them, and supports their weight?

(Guru Granth Sahib, p.3)

There are nether worlds beneath nether worlds,

and hundreds of thousands of heavenly worlds above.

(Guru Granth Sahib, p.5)

So many Indras, so many moons and suns,

so many worlds and lands.

(Guru Granth Sahib, p. 7)

Countless skies, countless neon-world,

countless galaxies and countless universes.

(Guru Granth Sahib, p. 1236)

So far we have considered the scientific truth as presented by Guru Nanak Sahib as scriptures and not as scientific knowledge.

But, now, the astronomers too have discovered millions of galaxies with the help of modern machines. They have found that every nebula

is so big that it has millions of stars of the size of the sun, and, each galaxy has its own suns, stars and earths. When scientists discover

new galaxies they find more and more galaxies beyond them. The scientists have almost surrendered regarding the mystery of the

expanse of the universes. They just accept the Gurbani declaration that "there is no accountability of God's creation."

Guru Nanak Sahib was the first scientist of the world who revealed that moon, stars; suns all are in constant movement. This movement is not in order but it is under the perfect order of the command of God. Earth circumambulates around the sun in one year. Similarly, moon completes its round in 28 days and the sun too revolves around its axel. According to the scientists, our earth came into existence about one billion years ago. It is impossible to calculate as to how many times has it (earth) taken around the sun.

That is why Guru Sahib had declared that it is impossible to assess and there is no end to it even now. According to Guru Nanak Sahib, it is only God who can give answer to this question:

In the Fear of God, the sun shines, and in the Fear of God, the moon reflects. They travel millions of miles, endlessly. The vast sky too is in his order.

(Guru Granth Sahib, p. 464)

The Creator who created this creation-only He Himself knows.

(Guru Granth Sahib, p.4)

Guru Sahib said that nothing in this universe, except. God, is permanent. Everything is in action and is moving towards destruction/

expansion. Only that is liberated for which Order has been written (by Him).

The sky, the earth will cease to exist; only He will ever existent. Sun is moving all the day, moon is ever moving;and the million of stars too are in movement.

(Guru Granth Sahib, p. 64)

Ever existent is only He, says Nanak so.
