Although I doubt (or hope!) that it wont come to that. Fact is, in the past racist attacks on asians (organsied and random Paki bashing) caused asians of all backgrounds to unite to combat this. If we have a hard rightward swing and an increase in attacks like that, the same thing may happen again.

I agree with you that white neo nazism and Islamo fundamentalism are both the same thing. They are essentially supremacist movements. That is what they have in common. That is ironically also why they are clashing with each other.

This is not about taking sides but seeing what is happening and making sure we don't get caught in the middle and being able and prepared to defend our own community.

Do you have a youtube channel.  It would be beneficial to start one as you will reach a wider audience. Most people probably aren't aware that there are Punjabi science fiction writers.  It will be a easy way for people to share your work by sharing a youtube link.

Also, with your access to many Punjabi writers it would be great to interview them and spread their work to a wider audience via youtube.

Also when you type in Punjabi what program do you use?

    Hi

I don't have a youtube channel but the guys who interview me do. or links to Akaal TV, Sikh Channel, Gimmi TV etc where all the interviews with all these writers can be found. Devinder Kaur Saini however does have her own youtube channel for teaching Punjabi and audiobooks, the link I have given will lead you to her..she is always updating stuff...I use html for Gurmukhi or amrlipi/ anmolipi on my laptop which I use online gurmukhi font converters to change to HTML

Let's not downplay how the bhangra industry is a primary force for promoting casteism amongst us too. Here in the UK, a lot of apnay are sick of it. It's like every time we celebrate something, we have a bunch of grinning blokes in girly costumes prancing about on stage.  It makes us a laughing stock.

That's why things like intelligent literature are so important, gives people a less clownish way to engage with their culture. Plus they might learn some new stuff. Use and develop their brains.

It was the majority of desi parent's who were originally not interested in making sure their kids knew Gurmukhi. Apart from rudimentary (and usually very poorly taught) classes in Gurdwaras. They didn't value it over formal education. I had classes for GCSE Panjabi in my school, only a fraction of the Sikh kids in the school attended them (3, including me!), they had the option to chose this at age 14, but they obviously didn't.  Now, some other communities were not remotely like this, (Urdu classes were ram packed!) and and you can see how the difference in attitude has led to one group being much closer than their roots than the other.

That all being said, I think initiatives like this are exactly what are needed to try and address the apparent apathy.

Apnay are more likely to promote this stuff than learning to read Panjabi by the looks of it?
