  1. "Portrait of a Friend"

I can't give solutions to all of life's problems, doubts,

or fears. But I can listen to you, and together we will

    search for answers.

I can't change your past with all it's heartache and pain,

nor the future with its untold stories.

But I can be there now when you need me to care.

I can't keep your feet from stumbling.

I can only offer my hand that you may grasp it and not fall.

    Your joys, triumphs, successes, and happiness are not mine;

Yet I can share in your laughter.

    Your decisions in life are not mine to make, nor to judge;

I can only support you, encourage you,

and help you when you ask.

I can't prevent you from falling away from friendship,

    from your values, from me.

I can only pray for you, talk to you and wait for you.

I can't give you boundaries which I have determined for you,

But I can give you the room to change, room to grow,

    room to be yourself.

I can't keep your heart from breaking and hurting,

But I can cry with you and help you pick up the pieces

and put them back in place.

I can't tell you who you are.

I can only love you and be your friend.

I promise to try to do all of these things

and be the best friend I can be from now on!

  2. A Bundle of Rags

A beggar lived near the king's palace. One day he saw a proclamation posted outside the palace gate. The king was giving a great dinner. Anyone dressed in royal garments was invited to the party.

The beggar went on his way. He looked at the rags he was wearing and sighed. Surely only kings and their families wore royal robes, he thought. Slowly an idea crept into his mind. The audacity of it made him tremble. Would he dare? He made his way back to the palace. He approached the guard at the gate.

"Please, sire, I would like to speak to the king."

    "Wait here," the guard replied.

In a few minutes, he was back. "His majesty will see you," he said, and led the beggar in. "You wish to see me?" asked the king.

"Yes, your majesty. I want so much to attend the banquet, but I have no royal robes to wear.

Please, sir, if I may be so bold, may I have one of your old garments so that I, too, may come to the banquet?"

The beggar shook so hard that he could not see the faint smile that was on the king's face. "You have been wise in coming to me," the king said. He called to his son, the young prince. "Take this man to your room and array him in some of your clothes."

The prince did as he was told and soon the beggar was standing before a mirror, clothed in garments that he had never dared hope for. You are now eligible to attend the king's banquet tomorrow night," said the prince. "But even more important, you will never need any other clothes. These garments will last forever."

The beggar dropped to his knees. "Oh, thank you," he cried. But as he started to leave, he looked back at his pile of dirty rags on the floor. He hesitated. What if the prince was wrong? What if he would need his old clothes again. Quickly he gathered them up.

The banquet was far greater than he had ever imagined, but he could not enjoy himself as he should. He had made a small bundle of his old rags and it kept falling off his lap. The food was passed quickly and the beggar missed some of the greatest delicacies.

Time proved that the prince was aright. The clothes lasted forever. Still the poor beggar grew fonder and fonder of his old rags.

As time passed people seemed to forget the royal robes he was wearing. They saw only the little bundle of filthy rags that he clung to wherever he went. They even spoke of him as the old man with the rags. One day as he lay dying, the king visited him. The beggar saw the sad look on the king's face when he looked at the small bundle of rags by the bed.

Suddenly the beggar remembered the prince's words and he realized that his bundle of rags had cost him a lifetime of true royalty. He wept bitterly at his folly. And the king wept with him.

We have been invited into a royal family--the family of God. To feast at God's dinner table, all we have to do is shed our old rags and put on the "new clothes" of faith which is provided by God.

But we cannot hold onto our old rags, we must let go of it.

When we put our faith in God, we must let go of the sin in our life, and our old ways of living. Those things must be discarded if we are to experience true royalty and abundant life in God.

  3. Children were asked what they would like to say to God

    The results:

    Dear God:

Instead of letting people die and making new ones, why don't you just keep the ones you have?

    - Johnny

    Dear God:

I bet it is very hard for You to love all of everybody in the world. There are only four people in our family and I can never do it.

    - Nan

    Dear God:

In school they told us what You do. Who does it when you are on vacation?

    - Jane

    Dear God:

Are You really invisible or is it just a trick?

    - Lucy

    Dear God:

Who draws the lines around the countries?

    - Nan

    Dear God:

I went to this wedding and they kissed right in church. Is that okay?

    - Neil

    Dear God:

Thank you for the baby brother, but what I prayed for was a puppy.

    - Joyce

    Dear God:

Please send me a pony. I never asked for anything before. You can look it up.

    - Bruce

    Dear God:

I think the stapler is one of Your greatest inventions.

    - Ruth

    Dear God:

We read Thomas Edison made light. But at school they said you did it. So I bet they stole Your idea.

    - Sincerely, Donna

    Dear God:

I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You made on Tuesday. That was cool.

    - Sara

  4. Life is a Theater

    Invite Your Audience Carefully

Not everyone is healthy enough to have a front row seat in our lives.

There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a DISTANCE.

It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go of, or at least

minimize your time with, draining, negative, incompatible,

    not-going-anywhere relationships/friendships.

Observe the relationships around you. Pay attention.

Which ones lift and which ones lean?

Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?

Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are going downhill?

When you leave certain people do you feel better or feel worse?

Which ones always have drama or don't really understand, know or appreciate you?

The more you seek quality, respect, growth, peace of mind, love and truth around you...the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the front row and who should be moved to the balcony of Your Life.

"If you cannot change the people around you, CHANGE the people you are around."

Remember that the people we hang with will have an impact on both our lives and our income. And so we must be careful to choose the people we hang out with, as well as the information with which we feed our minds.

We should not share our dreams with negative people, Nor feed our dreams with negative thoughts.

It's your choice and your life..... It's up to you who and what you let in it......

  5. Three Things In Life:

    Three things in life that,

    once gone, never come back:

    Time, Words & Opportunity

    Three things in life that

    may never be lost:

    Peace, Hope & Honesty.

    Three things in life that

    are most valuable:

    Love, Self-confidence & Friends

    Three things in life that

    are never certain:

    Dreams, Success & Fortune

Three things that make a man:

    Hard work, Sincerity & Commitment

    Three things in life that

    can destroy a man:

    Wine, Pride & Anger

  8. The Bear and the Travelers

Two Travelers were on the road together, when a Bear suddenly appeared on the scene. Before he observed them, one made for a tree at the side of the road, and climbed up into the branches and his there. The other was not so nimble as his companion; and, as he could not escape, he threw himself on the ground and pretended to be dead. The Bear came up and sniffed all around him, but he kept perfectly still and held his breath; for they say that a bear will not touch a dead body. The Bear took him for a corpse, and went away. When the coast was clear, the Traveler in the tree came down, and asked the other what it was the Bear had whispered to him when he put his mouth to his ear. The other replied, “He told me never again to travel with a friend who deserts you at the first sign of danger.â€

Misfortune tests the sincerity of friendship.

  10. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered.

    Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

    Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

    Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest person with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest person with the smallest mind.

    Think big anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack if you help them.

    Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you might get kicked in the teeth.

Give the world the best you've got anyway.

  11. Remember there are two types of dreams.

One dream starts when you close your eyes… and it stops when you open your eyes.

The second dream is this world that we live in. The day you wake up from this dream, you will realize what your mission is and what you are actually supposed to do here with your life.

Guru Granth Sahib Ji keeps on reminding us to wake up from our second dream.

  12. Sat Sri Akal Ji I am not a knowledgeable person but after reading all the posts I feel sava lakh japs, 40 days, chalia, white sheet, water and ghee jot are all ritualistic practices.

Rituals are not Gurmukh way of life and not what our Guru's taught us. Simran and Seva should be GuruSikh’s goal. Unbreakable ji said it very wisely.

Make constant Waheguru Simran jap a habit, a second nature, just like breathing.

    Bhul Chuk maff Karna Ji
