  1. Please correct me if I am mistaken, but I've heard that the reason why Dasmesh Pitha kept us away from Halal was because the only maas (meat) available due to Mughal Raj became Halal. Assuming that Muslim belief is that one who eats Halal is en route to accepting Islam. Thus Guru Sahib out of rebellion said that my Sikhs will only eat Jhatka. Jhatka being not only the best way to kill an animal and it not suffer, but also a great way to maintain Kshatriya heritage. Mentally preparing khalseh for battle as well via Jhatka.

In states, I am realizing that Halal is becoming more and more unavoidable at a lot of really famous places. Often times, they don't even make it clear that it is halal since it is not written any where. More and more youth are saying "whatever...who really cares".

I'd really like to know more thorough history behind it. Aasa kee vaar Guru Nanak Sahib says 'abhaakya khaa kutaah bakra khaana chonkeh uppar kisai na jaana"

    My two cents.

    Bhul Chuk Muaaf.

  2. The youth now a days say that they drink casually socially once and a while adn dont get completley smashed but just a bit buzzed if anything. What in real terms of SIKHI should we say to them if you think it is wrong? People saying that it is a waste of time adn all that is not a valid argument. We all do a lot of things that are worldly that waste time. It isnt good for your bhagti but what LEGITIMATE reason should we give our youth to not drink?

    WHYYY

    (playing devils advocate)

Yes, I agree with yours. In the bizzaro world that you are talking about it is totally ok to also use Coccain, Heroin. But if you are taking Cocaine and Heroin for reason or it is habit then there might by problems. :P 8)
  3. This may be random or off topic, but what about sex casually with your wife? What about protection being used with your wife if you dont want to have kids anymore? What is SIKHI's view on that? We always get that typical "oh its all kaam and "Mava Bhena Dheeeya'n Jaaneh". Sex only for having kids etc etc"

On most forums , especially neo-Sikh ones that prescibe the 'do your jap naam, do good sangat and take amrit shak'! (- what linguistic abilities!) make it sound so easy to cotrol kam, krodh, etc. If great rishis, after doing yugs worth of tapasya can succumb to their hankar, what makes you think by attending sikh camps and wearing 5ks will work?

On the other hand we see people trying to hide their lust or attraction for the opposite sex by stating how women should appear, dress and behave in public. Very Talibanesque!

Probs gone off topic but feel in a ranting mood

  4. Gurfateh!

We are hosting a Sikh Youth Camp this summer in America. We need help coming up with a theme, discussions to hold with the younger kids, the older kids, the women alone, the men, things to be addressed, workshop ideas, what to teach.

I figured ideas from you guys would be a great help.

Workshop ideas adn really figuring out a way to connect these kids to sikhi and bani without lecturing them and scaring them away is what we are looking for.
