  1. do you know the definition of Guru

"Gu" means darkness, and "ru" means light; thus a guru turns ignorance into enlightenment. In the west, the term has been interpreted quite often as simply an expert in a field whether that person helps you learn or understand anything or not.

  2. hold up, ur asking for knowledge on sikhi so u can go and try to convert sikhs???

Yes, Islam is a missionary religion. I don't try to convert any person it is usually people who have a good understanding of their religion. I debate, I have debated with many Christians, atheists, and Jews. Some of whom have even converted to Islam.

  3. A friend of mine tells me I am a Jatt, my background is Cheema. I actually come from a village that is called Sui Cheemian in Pakistan.

Can someone give me some info on this? sometimes we are called Choudery and sometimes my dad is called Lambardaar Saaib?

My dad actually told me a story once, he told me when the separation of Pakistan and India happened. Loads of people form our village robbed Sikh belongings, because of the trains that were coming from India full of dead Muslims who were killed on India side.

Anyway my dad told me, that my granddad was well known so the Sikhs came with the police to reorganize their belongings that had been taken from them and they would come to our house and have some cha (tea) and my dad was told by his dad to go and tell the people in the village to bring back all the stolen things. And some people did and some didn't.

Anyway he told me another story too that, in the second war there was a person from our village who was captured in India, and one of the Sikh officers lined up all the captured men and asked them their name and what village they were from.

And the Sikh officer asked this person from our village where he was from and he said Sui Cheemian, and the Sikh officer said to him, right you come with me, and he was scared he thought he was going to be shot or something, anyway the Sikh officer had taken him and gave him some food to eat and then he told him he said I am going to let you free, and thet you come from my village I was born in Sui Cheemian and that is why I am going to set you free so the Sikh officer taken him right next to the border gave him some money and a a gun and told him he was free to go.

Which was a pretty good story I thought.

Anyway can someone tell me more about Jatts?

    Bimillah Al Rahmaan Al Raheem.

    Dear Bro,

are you the same young man das has interacted with at other forum. What so ever be warm welcome and Ahlan Wa Sahlan.

Allah Hafiz.Think yourself mong your own people. There could be only differance like that of 21 and 19 between us and you.And at later stage ie at higher spritual level we all are same.

No I am not the person you are referring to. I only post on this Sikh forum.

  5. wallay kum salaam brother!

You will find this site particularly, to be very enriching, as there are many on this site who have a healthy interest in theology.

We have websites which explain our guru (sri guru granth sahib ji) very well. As most sikhs 'feel' the divinity of the creator within it. The sites though do have a few shortcomings in that they don't contextualize the hymns or explain the contexts. But as a starting point....

That is excellent, I will be looking at the website you have suggested. Although my purpose is to find discrepancies withing, holy scriptures. I specialize in debating. So if there are any philosophical aspects to Sikhism or scholarly articles then, those would be something I would enjoy looking into. Obviously, when one is debating you have to challenge others, on their beliefs and Analise them in a logical manner. Islam is a missionary religion, we are told to debate with people of other faiths in a logical and respectful manner and then invite them to Islam.

www.srigranth.org will be a reasonable site as it explains alot. Our guru's while in human form, actually overlooked the scribing of guru granth sahib ji, and, hence, our issues lie mainly in the way we interpret and through what set of "lenses" we use. Ie, some are theologists, others socialists, others modernists....to make a long story short, the site I have posted will scratch the surface, .

Hmm... seems very similar to the mystic aspects of Islam (Sufism) thats pretty interesting.

but please feel free to post any questions you may have, and I am sure one of the many wise ones on this board will be happy to build bridges

    Thanks.

  6. Hello, Salaam. How is everyone doing?

By the way you might be thinking what is he doing. Anyway am interested in learning about Sikhism. I am student of theology, and now am looking at aspects of Sikhism. Also I am wanting to know where I can read the English translation of the Sikh holy book. If someone can help me, this will be much appreciated.
