  1. We already lost a lot of important places to Paks. Lets not have the same thing happen again with Patna Sahib, Hazoor Sahib etc. Personally I think the plan should be to dePanjabise Sikhi a bit more and open it up to receive mass converts and try and turn large swathes of India into Sikh country. Panjab should be the model state of India, not the junkie infested place people are fleeing from.

I always thought Sikhi should be the message of progression and egalitarianism in an Indian context. It should be appealing to many like this. But I guess there is a fat chance of thinking along these lines when many of our own lot can outdo any Bahman in terms of caste narrow mindedness and insularity. Sikhism should now spread from its rural base and go back to its sophisticated, urbane original nature.

Sikhi was influential outside of the Panjab in the past - it was spreading like wildfire - that needs to happen again in India. We should be preoccupied with upping numbers and molding people in our quom to be productive and advantageous to us as a society, without having to resort to oppression like zulmi dogs.

I don't understand why we should limit beautiful Sikhi to a small geographical boundary, when whole world is open to us. DePanjabising it, is a start.

  3. First, what kind of bharam it is? Does it relate to different points of view of Sampradas or religions?

Or are you talking about the bharam which is driving this mortal world?

He is the one put us in bharam. He is the one who will break it. You can do paath of following shabad. He listens to devotees.

    ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧

  4. This Aussie brother seems to have gone into depth in explaining those words/concepts:

Trans: When two separate substances are mixed or adulterated with one another. Learned folk say that this mixture can be of two sorts i.e. 1) a veyjaati mix and 2) a sujaati mix. A veyjaati mix refers to adulteration thus no name is given to a sujaati mix because in a sujaati type mix the two meeting components become identical in the end result, like water mixed with water, or a fragrance mixed with another fragrance. In this same manner with the merging of the consciousness (soorat) with the word (shabad) the [individual] soul is merged with the supreme soul (paraatma), like a drop of water is merged into its ocean source.

O Nanak, he merges with the Lord of the Universe, like water with water. (ang 633)

The other [type] which is the vejaati type union is xxxxxx? because it is the name of the mixture of two separate components that are recognised as distinct like water and oil, gold and copper, milk and water, a fragrance with a fetid odor.

ਅਖਵਾਂਦ - what does this mean???

I get the impression that ਅਖ refers to a corruption of sorts?

Is it some variant of 'saying'? There is similar word in Persian meaning 'teacher'.

  5. shwet is sankrit for white, are these other words sanskrit as well Laal Singh Ji?

I am ok with Hindi, know nothing about Sanskrit First definition is from Prof Sahib Singh. It is somewhere in Guru Granth Darpan.

ਸਫੇਦ is common word used in everyday punjabi and 'shwet' means white in Hindi.

As Sanskrit is mother language, its origin must in Sanskrit.

ਮੂਜਬ - cause or according to

    ਆਵਾਹਨ - called upon

What a thinking person can think? That according to writers what was called upon/invited by Guru Gobind Singh, because writers of Gurbilas and Suraj Pratap present a mixture of all these thoughts.

  7. This letter always baffled me: . I mean how often do you come across it? Really.

That pretty much goes for this baby too actually

Punjabi is my first language. I don't remember using these letters any time in my lifetime. Only places we come across these letters are saying 'ਪੈਂਤੀ' or reading Guru Granth.

  8. lol

One is z as in zoro, the swashbuckling masked fellow. The other is j as in Jug. Maybe listening to some Parsi or French would help?

The one that has completely bamboozled me for life is the faffa parh bindhi. How is that one different to standard faffa?

This problem must be common, maybe that's why Z is called 'zed' instead of 'zee'. Some people might be pronouncing 'gee' and 'zee' similarly.
