  1. Harjas Kaur Ji,

Sister, you really need to chill out, be kind yourself. Have a look at your quote below your posts:

Nalpe sukham asti - "finite things do not contain happiness"

    ~Rishi Sanatkumara, Chandogya Upanishad

This forum, this discussion is finite. There are people who are hinduphobic (to a certain extent) even here, but no one here really took the two-bit posting of Akaal Das as requiring any opposition.

While you have objected to being part of any political group as few posts ago - you have falsely labelled all of us on this forum as being of the same mindset as Akaal Das.

You've mistaken our silence on the post for 100% approval. I and I am sure others saw Akaal Das' post as 'Hate Bait' and on this occasion took it as something that requires no response.

This is not because it is not wrong - rather I am sure most people took it as 'Never argue with a fool' which 'Akaal Das' clearly has shown his self to be.

We've seen what's happened since you have responded, it's not peace that has ensued - rather more heated discussion. However, none of this consequent discussion has been anywhere near justifying Akaal Das's post.

The trouble maker is long gone but you still want to prove some thing that isn't there. I am sure he's sitting somewhere laughing to himself and enjoying winding you up by proxy.

I have a question for you:

Does silence means 100% tacit agreement?

If so then there is a big dilemma we all face.

For you that'd mean everytime Sikhs or Hindus or anyone for that matter (does your definition of Dharma extend that far?) are slandered you have to be there defending Dharma.

I agree this sometimes works and we all have a duty to stop two-bit interpretations of faith, but you also have to realise that not everyone is 100% inclined to always fight for Dharma. Sometimes not engaging the 'enemy' is the path to victory.

I sincerely believe this was such an instance - you did not. We can agree to disagree.

Since the discussion has moved on from the initial post and if it's a philosophical discussion you want - I suggest starting a new thread.

    Last thing:

People see things through different lenses. You see Sikhi through your Sanatan Dharam lens. Others in the past have shown very compelling arguments for Sikhi being philisophically derived from Islam. 'My' understanding is that we interpret things according to our 'own understanding' as Guru Sahib states.

    Thanks

    Ishwar Singh.

  2. The rani and wazir do not have as much freedom in Chatranj, they can move in the same directions as chess but they are limited to the number of spaces they can move and cannot fly accross the board like you can in chess. This makes the game much more tactical and players cannot be caught out by a lone queen taking out the whole board. Another difference is if the Raja is left by himself with no one surrounding him the game is over rather than in chess where a sole king is allowed to run around one space at a time until he is killed.

Indeed, the King being unattended always perturbed me in Chess - 'He's the King so why is everyone allowed to run away from him?!'

  3. My best results in academic life were based on hard work coupled with firm belief in my ability to learn.

That also involves becoming smarter in your study - see your work outside of it's box. Draw connections between different topic areas, see themes, etc truly become a student. This involves making you work meaningful by asking yourself questions. Don't just read - read for a purpose! Who, what, when, why and how should be your constant companions.

Acknowledge your strengths, and work on your weaknesses. Working on weaknesses will yield more developmentally than sticking to your strengths (do not wholly neglect these though) and purely from a exam point of view means you are adding more marks easily. Getting the last few marks on each question require a higher command of the topic and usually only happen once you have built you proficiency of the lower level elements.

Finally, have a belief that if you sincerely do your best Vaheguru takes care of the rest. This gives a calm, serene, playful mind which once forged by your best efforts is free to flow like your pen during recall.

  4. Where the heck would I find the hydrochloric acid to test it???

    Lol, try your stomach!

Gastric acid is a secretion produced in the stomach. It is one of the main ditotonic solutions secreted, together with several enzymes and intrinsic factors. Chemically it is an acid solution with a pH of 1 to 2 in the stomach lumen, consisting mainly of hydrochloric acid (HCl) (around 0.5%, or 5000 parts per million), and large quantities of potassium chloride (KCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl).

On a serious note, do you know any chemistry students? Perhaps they could obtain some for you.

  5. Just heard from a Singh Veer (via text) that Baba Ji is doing Katha in Derby tomorrow at Guru Arjan Dev Ji Gurudwara at 7pm.

  6. An estimated 7,000 languages are being spoken around the world. But that number is expected to shrink rapidly in the coming decades. What is lost when a language dies?

In 1992 a prominent US linguist stunned the academic world by predicting that by the year 2100, 90% of the world's languages would have ceased to exist.

Far from inspiring the world to act, the issue is still on the margins, according to prominent French linguist Claude Hagege.

"Most people are not at all interested in the death of languages," he says. "If we are not cautious about the way English is progressing it may eventually kill most other languages."

  8. Guru sahib's signature on the item in question has now been rectified.

I have been in touch with PDL about this, and while I may not agree will the selling of such items I am happy it has been corrected.

  9. Singh2 Ji,

Thanks I read your previous post.

'They are not running anything free. they are making money out of it.'

Why don't you try and register for free and see what happens?! I may be wrong later but right now I can access a lot and no money has exchanged hands.

  10. Try registering for free. At the moment you can access all the pages of stuff posted on there if you do this.

Yes. it looks like premium membership will cost (and I don't know what extra privilages you get) but I do not understand the running costs of such an operation nor the business model. As I said before it is in beta stage at the moment.

If they are running it as non-profit i.e. to cover the costs of operations, staff, future scaling up of digitisation projects etc then great.

If not then it is a cause for concern but be glad it's available albiet not in the 'free' form we want.

The reality is that these things do not occur without money but I agree with the gurmat concept of not making money out of Gurbani - of which a lot of the content is.

For me the business model is the thing that needs to be understood.

About the shop - I don't agree with selling such things and the distortion is indeed wrong. I suggest writing to them to point their errors.
