  1. Parmatma is Ajoni asper Mool Mantar. Should we as Sikhs accept that Parbraham took birth via Devaki's womb?

So mukh jalo Je Thakur yoni

    ਸੋ ਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਹਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜੋਨੀ ॥੩॥

There's a lot of misinformation out there. The fact is Parmatma was born to Mata Devaki and then raised by Mata Yashoda as Shri Krishn. And this is why Guru Arjan Dev ji warns against calling Him (Krishan ji) jooni because in reality He is Ajuni.

Such a lowly outcaste as Naam Dev has come seeking Your Sanctuary. ||2||2||

I hope that clears any doubts.

Guru Sahib has explained all this in Sri Dasam Granth.

Chatanga do you have the page numbers I can look at. I read Guru Granth Sahib more so I am not as familiar with Shri Dasam Granth.

  2. No!!

I know that ਛ is an aspirated 'ch' sound as in 'church' and ਸ਼ is the 'sh' in shirt or sherbet.

Dude you research in your spare time + You aspirate ਚ to say ਛ = You are not Pindu then or only half Pindu!

    Johnyork,

    #17

    1) ਮੈਂ ਠੀਕ ਹਾਂ । - is grammatically correct. ਹਾਂ, ਹੈ, ਹਨ are correct. But in common discourse you might hear ਆਂ, ਐ/ਆ, ਨੇ instead.

There's more to it, when it comes to telling whether someone is from a certain region.

    #19

Dally is correct about 1 and 2. 2 is used for elders and respected folks.

But it should be ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਿਉ, and it is usually in a sentence, not on its own. ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਗਲਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਿਉ. On the other hand, ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਨਾ works as "excuse me/ pardon me" on its own, with or without a sentence. You bump into someone and say: ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਨਾ or you want to ask for the washrooms: ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਨਾ ਭਰਾ ਜੀ ਇੱਥੇ ਵਾਸ਼ਰੂਮ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹਨ ?

You can also say ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿਉ ਜੀ l This also shows more politeness and respect than ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਨਾ l

  3. Lol BAT man has a utility turban, like how batman has a utility belt. ;) I actually have one I was working on where utilities are being um...utilized, and a couple other concepts showing different types of turbans I but never got through them.

I don't really know much about the Anglo-sikh wars; gona have to research them first.

I saw a few nice paintings by Jason Askew on anglo-sikh wars. Check him out

  4. Dally you have everything right except for this:

At the danger of 'dumbing it down' considerably I'd venture:

ਉਸਨੇ (I think) is a plural form of ਉਹ + ਨੇ. As you most likely already
know, Panjabis use plural forms (even for single individuals) when
speaking 'respectfully' - especially with elders for example.

ਉਸਨੇ is ਉਹ + ਨੇ. It can also be said/writtin as ਉਹਨੇ. It is singular.

    Plural of ਉਹ is ਉਹਨਾ or ਉਨ੍ਹਾ. Plural of ਉਸਨੇ is ਉਹਨਾ ਨੇ or ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੇ.

    So ਉਹਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਦਖਾਈ ਸੀ । becomes ਉਹਨਾ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਦਖਾਈ ਸੀ । when speaking to a respected person.

    John,

    Continuing from our previous discussion:

    ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ l He teaches me.
    ਉਹ ਮੇਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l He is teaching me.

    ਉਹਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਹੈ l He has taught me.

    ਉਹਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਸੀ l He taught me.

Now this is a teacher so you would use the plural tense. Can you convert each sentence so it shows respect?

  5. Johnyyork ji,

I think those differences insignificant and are just based on personal preference. ਟਿਊਸ਼ਨ टिਊਸ਼ਨ and ਗੁਰੂ गੁਰੂ are all in Gurmukhi, they are all equally correct. These letters are shared between Gurmukhi and Devnagri. There is no Punjabi script, if there is it is simply referring to the Gurmukhi script. Most people don't call Punjabi as Gurmukhi, they just call it Punjabi.

Look at old hand-written birs in Gurmukhi.

adigurudurbarbj0.jpg - ट in the fifth line from bottom, ग in the eighth line from top, and appears many times, the first line has ਗ

dsc03891uv6.jpg - ग in the bottom line, pay attention to how the siharis are elongated

  6. Nope it's not applicable. We can take these sentences and they would still be correct without ਮੈਨੂੰ.

    ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ l He teaches me. > ਉਹ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ l He teaches.
    ਉਹ ਮੇਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l He is teaching me. > ਉਹ ਪੜ੍ਹਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l He is teaching.

  7. You have to be careful here. Are you trying to say "He teaches me" (as in question: Who teaches you? you point at the teacher and answer "HE teaches me")

    OR

are you trying to say "He IS teaching me" (that it is happening right now)? There is a difference.

    ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ l He teaches me.
    ਉਹ ਮੇਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l He is teaching me.

  8. ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭੂੰਚਾ ॥

The Lord called me into his palace and there I feasted on Amrit.
    ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਊਚਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

Nanak says my Lord is exalted.

As I understand, "naam" means the same thing that "name" means in English. Gurmantar, anhad, shabad, parkash and jyot are not names but nouns. Waheguru is the only name you have there.

  9. My understanding is that ਮੇਰੇ in ਮੇਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ l is grammatically correct while ਮੇਰਿਆਂ in ਮੇਰਿਆਂ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ l is colloquial, can be used in informal conversations.

  10. great ! very knowledgeable...but one thing is ..i dont understand why is there hindu phobia ? the Udasis do not regard the Sanatan Dharam as untouchable like the neo modern Singh Sabhia mentality .

Guru Gobindsinghji's favorite 'kavya' was suppose to be Hanuman Natak by Pundit Hriday Ram ji . Jaap Sahib, Guru Maharaj's composition has Farsi words to praise Akaal...Puratan Sikhi had all the elements of the scenario of those times .

Lol some of it is hilarious, esp that last part.

"From a Gurmat perspective Hanuman can represent a Sikh, whereas Ram Chandar can be viewed as a metaphor for Ram."
