didn;t know that.....where do we get one from hahah...i read in bani guru ji talks about being a lotus flower
-
The Lotus
The flowering head of the Lotus plant has been a symbol of spirituality in India for thousands of years.
The life cycle of the Lotus plant begins when a Lotus seed finds its way into the sediments at the bottom of some warm little pond somewhere.
Though barely able to see the light through the murky water, the new shoot strives upwards until eventually it bursts into the light, bringing the beauty of its delicate petals to the pool's surface.
During their development, the plants filter and purify the body of water in which they find themselves, making the water transparent.
According to a traditional saying, the more muddy and opaque the water is to start with, the more beautiful the Lotus flower is when it arrives.
Traditionally, Lotus flowers have been associated with the chakras. Flowers with larger numbers of petals being associated with higher centres.
One of the most important yoga poses for meditation is named padmasana, or 'Lotus posture'.
Lotus flowers have a long history of use as meditative objects, no doubt due - in part - to their similarities to mandalas.
The life cycle of these flowers may be seen as symbolising the evolution of the individual - who is born in darkness and strives to reach the light

Intersting point, also if you look at The "Encyclopedia of Sikhism" Harbans Singh, Patitala Uni..alot of the references come from Rattan Singh Bhangoo and Giani Gian Singhs work.
its now online @ www.allaboutsikhs.com but you have to register
I recently bought a book, Called "Sikh in the 18th century, by Surjit Singh Gandhi" and like all other modern historians he has selected the pieces that suit his needs...good stepping stone though

waheguru ji ka khalsa
waheguru ji kee fateh!
With God's kindness, last week I spent a day at an all white school in
Thetford, Norfolk. It was the town where the Last Maharaja and the first
UK Sikh lived. Maharaja Duleep Singh resided here when Queen Victoria
brought him over to England. The children where aged 10 and had never
seen a Sikh before, except from a distance in Macdonalds so they thought
the turban was weird! I started off singing mool mantr followed by
Waheguru Waheguru followed by Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji kee fateh!
I had closed eyes and hands together at my heart. I asked them to think
of God while I sung a verse in praise of God. I didn't explain to them what it meant, I just wanted them to feel the power of God's Word.
The boys started laughing as soon as I started, but I kept concentrating
and finished off. Thinking this is going to be a difficult class, they
asked me what it meant and to sing it again. I said if I sing it again you're just going to laugh again! They said they wouldn't but I knew they would, so I said I'm going to sing again and if you want to laugh just laugh , get it out of your system.
When I was a kid being laughed at for having a joora (topknot) was the worst thing in the world. But now I thought it is better they laugh at me
than laugh at some other Sikh kid who may be devasted. So I sang again
with my eyes closed and this time the girls started laughing as well. I
then asked them if any one felt different and a few of them put their hands up. Mainly people felt different when they wanted to join in with a group but were rejected. I told them that's how I felt when I was the only Sikh kid in my school and children used to grab my joora or call me names. But now I was quite happy to be different because our tenth master Guru Gobind Singh Ji said he would make his Sikh stand out in a crowd.
We played a little game where I got them to guess how long my turban was
and how long my hair was. Then I unravelled the tuban and let my hair
down, then tied it up again. That was really interesting for them. We
talked about the 5Ks all being part of a sikh identity, so we would stand out and be different. Then in the break they all wanted to wear the 5Ks especially the turban, so I must have tied about 50 small turbans and the kids loved it - loved wearing a crown and feeling like a king/queen. One of the kids said to me he wanted to be a Sikh!!
After the break I told the story of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji , about human rights and about standing up for what you believe. I said no-one came forward to get the Guru's head and body so the tenth master said he would
make Sikhs different so they could never hide. That is what my mum told
me when I was a kid and really reluctant to go to school or to keep my hair.
At the end they wanted me to sing the song again, but I said you'll just laugh again. They said they wouldn't so I closed my eyes and put my pressed hand over my heart and started singing. The boys started giggling, instead of getting angry I thought of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and thought how much love he had pouring out of his heart throughout the torure of his Sikhs and his own beheading. And I imagined the SatGuru's love going from my heart directly into the hearts of the chldren. Throw flowers in return for stones. To my amazement the giggling stopped and the boys started singing WAHEGURU WAHEGURU, I was astonished and then I heard the girls join in and the whole class was singing WAHEGURU WAHEGURU. So this time I started laughing and opened my eyes at the small miracle!! Even when the class finished they carried on singing to themselves.
Wonderful Immortal Timeless Being, The Embodiement of God the Eternal
Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji who made a fool like me do some seva.
Have faith in God, in the True Name and the True Guru
Waheguru jee ka khalsa Waheguru jee kee fateh!

Baba Nihal Singh, Horshipur lived up to his name
1980 With the protection of Baba Nihal Singh, Krishan
Kaur Khalsa was the first woman to perform kirtan, in
recent time, within the confines of Sri Harimandir
Sahib. Vikram Singh Khalsa was performing kirtan on
the Gurupurab for the birthday for Guru Ram Das Ji.
This kirtan was for a Bhog on the roof of the
Harimandir Sahib -- not in the main hall. When he
finished, he motioned for Krishna Kaur Khalsa to play.
As she began some SGPC sevadars moved to stop her but
Baba Nihal Singh and some other Nihungs stood in their
way and protected her right to perform kirtan within
the confines of the Harimandir Sahib. Still no Sikh
woman has performed kirtan in the main darbar.
In 1979, Sikhs of American descent performed Kirtan in
Darbar Sahib for the very first time while observing
Guru Ram Das's Prakash Utsav. Sardar Vikram Singh
Khalsa, Ajeet Singh Khalsa, and Guru Sangat Singh
Khalsa performed kirtan in the main darbar.

1984: Baba Nihal Singh was Right Hand Man of Sant
Jarnail Singh, and had many gevious with the Indian
Army's and Politians
One Story i heard was that they; raided the camp and
caught Baba Ji and his Singhs, and tied him upto a
jeep and dragged him around the villages on a
rope, tearing his skin apart and painstakenly broke his
arms and legs. They tied his beard up with his "nala"
from his kachera and beat him continuously. But baba
ji , nver gave up.
1964 11 Sikhs were gunned down at Paonta Sahib
(Himachal Pradesh) by the Mahant's henchmen.
The sangat of Poanta Sahib had requested head of Tarna
Dal (not Nihal Singh, but the one before him) to visit
the Gurdwara. They complained that the residing masand
was abusing the Gurdwara premises through drinking,
raping women that came alone, and making prostitutes
dance inside. After several such requests Babaji
decided to visit Poanta Sahib accompanied by 13
GurSikhs. They left, from Gurdwara Haria Welan
Hoshiarpur, riding horses and horse drawn carts. When
they arrived near Gurdwara Poanta Sahib, two GurSikhs
carried Babaji's message for the masand requesting
initiation of a Akhand Path at the Gurdwara. The
masand did not give a definitive answer, instead
assured to respond before the next morning. Meanwhile
the masand confided with the local police chief, one
of his corrupt friends who endorsed and permitted his
evil acts.
Babaji started the Akhand Path next morning which
proceeded uninterrupted for 2 days. On the 2nd day,
the masand came with the police. They arrested Babaji
who was outside at that time and fired at the GurSikhs
inside, who were conducting the Akhand Path. The
GurSikhs had no guns. For they had not come with the
intent to fight, but rather to hear the sangat's
concerns. As a result they were brutally massacred.
Eleven died and two survived. As each Pathi was shot
while reciting the Guru Granth Sahib, another simply
pushed his body and continued the uninterrupted
recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Nihal Singh, 21
at the time, continued with his choar sewa (even when
he had been shot 3 times) until the last GurSikh was
shot. As the Akhand Path was interrupted, Nihal Singh
finally fell. The only survivor was the youngest
GurSikh, a 11 year old, who was found hiding behind a
nagara (drums). Besides him all others were presumed
dead. It wasn't until the bodies were being loaded up
in a cart that a small child saw Nihal Singh breath
and informed the local sikhs. The local sikhs who had
gathered by now, screamed to get him some medical
attention. Fortunately they succeeded in their
efforts. He received medical attention and survived
with Vaaheguru's grace. He was subsequently honored by
many gurdwaras as "Jinda-Shaheed" Jathedar. The masand
was finally removed. Akhand paths are held each year
in the commemoration of this event.

"undergroundsikhi where exactly r ur classes?"
Not my classes they are "Akali Nihang Baba Darbara Singh Akhara of Budha Dal" if any thing
I've got no skills I have just been to 2 classes and have been very physically secure after going, once in feb I had 15 guys come to our gurdwara giving me agro"Loads of reasons behind it " but to cut a long story short....... I was surrounded by 15 guys given me abuse, and each step of the way i remebered what i had learn in the 2 lessons,
1) Never let anyone come behind you
2) Always try and walk away from the incident first
3) if your gonna hit, make sure its with one blow ( i had my kara's ready to smash their naka's)
4) Whilst they where swearing at me I was planning to kick the knee's and smash my kara in their faces
5) at the same time using my voice to calm them down and bod language
6) look for weapons around you ( i had a fire extinguser at my feet)
ANd this was well beneficial I could have go beaten but the advice from Niddar Singh and a quick ardas to guruji *When i was really khacking it* (You try talking to 15, Punjabi P*ss heads)
but either way they left and things worked out
So any of you out there "I;m not promoting eaten meat or drinking goblets of sukkha  ......but try out "Sevaya Rakshia" classes and see you "Robh" increase and your awareness if not for yourself then others protection.
