  1. Gurfateh brothers and sisters

    God is wonderous

i was searching something else and came upon this thread

the translation started when I was 20

7 years later I have grown and learned and fallen deeper in love  with my guru

I had to leave for law school and now I am finishing my llm and just passed the bar guru mehr nal

o am working on the translation and after doing a comparative study I find the best steek to be professor sahib singh jis

I finished my llm soon and am hoping this translation finishes by  next year at japji sahib and sometime in my lifetime with he love and prayer of my kaum I hope to translate Guru Granth shaib steek

until then on YouTube search English nitnem katha tejkaran kaur and there is a audio translation of all five banis done by professor shaib singh ji

I was 20-21 then so my presentation isn’t the best but pray I am hoping to finish this teek a project

I have gotten lost in gurbani and am in love with guru jis teachings

And thankful for the effort made by prof sahib singh ji

I pray I can share them with the world

first of all cursed are the hands and the mind who have thought and written such apavitar thoughts about Sant Kavi Bhai VIr Singh. u r lucvky he was such an amazing gurmukh who is above nindak

that being said gurbani must be the test for what is gurmat

    panth parkash is not gurbani

yes it is valuable for some information but at every historian knows each text must be looked at for credibility in light of other texts and history

now bhai biddhi chand was a great gurmukh

would u ever believe he stole women's earing for fun?????????????????? kavi santokh singh ji was amazing beyond amazing and i love sooraj parkash granth but there are things written against the philosiphy of guru granth sahib and of dasam granth bani and vaara bhai gurdas ji in my eyes these three are our first sources,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the seva of editing done by bhai vir singh ji was crucial and only time will show the extent of how bhai sahib ji saved sikh sidhant at a time when all of india was converting to christianity

  3. baba zorawar singh jee was not executed in battle, his history is in bassi pathana near fatehgarh sahib, here is katha on him, i am from bassi pathana (well my nanke are ) and there has been lots of research going on by gurmukhs, its starts at 12:25

and it continues in the beggining here

id listen to all the vids this kathawachak is amazing but here anyways

  5. the first hukmee means God the commander , one who gives hukam. The second should be a sihari at the end which means by the hukam . The third means the hukam and is in agreement with the word andar. The last is usually an adjective and the vowel is used for agreement. For example in english we have boys books

the boys book and in punjabi adjectives agree to change with verbs. Its all grammer and roots . hope this helps.

  6. gurufatheh g read gurbani www.srigranth.org forgiveness is the main pillar of Sikhi gurbani says

where their is knowlege their is religon(rightousness dharma)

where there is falsehood their is sin

where there is greed there is kal(darkness, death)

where there is forgiveness their is God himself

in gurbani sant ravidas says jo pai hum na paap karanta ahay ananta patit pawan naam kaise hunta

if we did not sin oh infanate lord y would you b the forgiver of sinners

god always forgives a mahapurash once told me that they instant tears of pachtava (regret remorse) fall from your eyes those tears clean the stains of whatever paap u did :)

  7. - Japji Sahib

    http://www.youtube.c...h?v=9uAQMVprCTA - Jaap Sahib

the hope is that this will help our youth understand bani and vocabulary as well as those Sikhs who have converted from atheism or otherfaiths for a deep relationship with bani as well as clear up doubts about certain lines in dasam bani as well

savaiya sahib chaupai sahib and anand sahib katha will be up soon

Prof ji explains that the correct spelling is with a tippi

    there r three parts

the ik the number meaning one

second part is the word onang which means bhram-God

in Punjabi it is spelled with a tippi

so transliteration cant b trusted unless there is a key with gurmikhi akkhars

its like the word namastang or ajooni saibhung the ng is usually a tippi sound

so its ik oang and the last part is kaar which means an infinate or endless force that is constant

Prof ji explains that the word is made of these three parts

this will be explained in detail at the moolmantr section

  10. there is a Sikhs for Justice rally in New york

it is important to attend if you can

every gurudwara 1118,114,sant sagar will have buses going to the event

it is really imortant to attend if you cna because we need to show sikhs have numbers and we want tytler n sajan kumar n kamal nath to recieve their justice

if we sikhs dont stand up for our rights than who will?

the rally is at the united nations building it starts at noon

buses leave the gurudwaras at 10 am on monday november 1st

hooe to see you all there

  11. Waheguru ji

i used to believe that as well but the main argument (there are many but this one stands by itself) is that each raag starts with a mool mantar till Gurparsadi

would Guru sahib ever write an incomplete mool mantr?

    thats the main reason

also japu is the name of the bani

    but one importnt thing

anyone can chant up to what they like

both will lead to God but

japu is the start of the bani

  12. EXACTLY :)

also wanted to add one more thing

    japji sahib starts at japu

the mool mantar is completely seperate

the way we see the mool mantar when raags start

    thats the same as here

i mean we should read it because it is there at the beggining but it is not part of the bani japu

the bani jap starts aadi sachu jugaadi sachu

that is where Guru Nanak Dev ji is giving a mangla charan or a statement of his object of worship

this bani is about the japu of the lord who is aadi sachu jugaadu sachu

more on that later i will send u the meaning :)

  13. Fateh g

thats actually very common now cause we refer to the time when a Sikh is supposed to rise and do simran as Amrit vela nowdays

the literal meaning of the word is the time of great bliss/endless joy

when we feel bliss we say amrit like when katha vachiks do good katha we say it is like amrit to our ears

the time when a Sikh should wake up is called bhalkay

gur satgur ka jo sikh akhiye so bhalkay ut har naam dhiavay

    - whoever calls himself (or is called a Sikh of the Guru) should wake up and meditate on the Naam

so there is no doubt that waking up to do Simran and nitnem is jrooreee and we can call this time Amrit Vela because we are filled with Amrit from the path

    Guru Ji tells us \

safal moorati saflaa gharee jit sachay nal piar- when we are in love with God that is a pure and beautiful time

    so in this tukh

muho ki bolan boleeay jit sun dharay piar

what can we speak with our mouth, so that God may bestow his love

the answer is that at anytime of the day if we chant God's naam in joy and love whether it is 2am or 2pm , that act will bring us his love

by pondering on God's glories that will cause God to bestow his preet

    hope that helps g

the other question is that it is a matter of studying the language or using a dictionary

its hard cause english words dont have gender

but spanish, french, italian, hindi, punjabi and sanskrit words all do

    here is a punjabi example

main roti khanda - this a boy would say the word khanda is masculine

main roti khandee- this a girl would say the word khandee is feminine

other words that end in ee are usually fem and words in a are usually mas but their are some exeptions this we just have to study see in english we have the pronouns he and she in punjabi we say oh

i know its a little confusing

    heres another example

the world manja (bed) is masculine so it ends in a

manja kithe haiga- where is the bed

haiga is masculine too and it must be masculine cause it has to agree with majna

the word kursee (chair) is feminine so the same sentence would be

kursee kithay haigee- the word haigee is feminine so it agrees with kursee

    hope this helps

    fateh g :)

see the pauris connect like this i just noticed

start mool mantar - this is separate n till Gurparsad(i)

    Jap(u)- name of bani

start aad sach- this is the description of God being sach-eternal-the one who exists and the one who is neverdying (the whole bani wraps around this concept of being sachiar like God , obtaining this house of sach

the first pauri talks about the attemps and ends with giving the answer that sachiar is obtained by taking the naam and living in God's raza

the second pauri describes the doings of the hukam (not describe but like tells of) the hukam being the source of all and ends with the line nanak hukme jey bujhai - hukme bujhai means understand the hukam

third pauri talks about how people bujhai or understand the hukam

some describe (sing of it) in one way others in other ways

the last line talks about God being above it all and hapilly bestowing gifts on all

the next line opens with this notion

and it describes God is being saach and his law as sach (his justice) and his language as limitless love

and notions that is everything is Gods the only thing we can give God is love and repeat his name in moments of bliss

than the next two pauris beg God for the gift of the Naam (gura ik deh bujhai)

thn the next pauri talks about the value of the naam

the next four paris talk about what happens when we sunehai (bind conciousness to the naam)

the next maneheh (believe in the Naam)

the next talks about the saints (panch ) who have done both

hope this helps ill post more later

  15. You are right. Search shows Satguru Nanak used word ਸੋਚ for purification mostly.

    fateh g

see the thing that tells us the meaning of soach is to wash is the second word in the line

    ਸੋਚੈ ਸੋਚਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸੋਚੀ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ

the first word sochai is a verb meaning to clean

than we have soach(i) with a sihari in the middle

now where did the sihari come from

soach(to think) is a feminine word

what reason would their be to add a sihari

now in masculine words if you add a sihari than the sihari means in

    like this

ghar= house ghar(i) (with sihari) - in the house

    man=mind man(i)- in the mind

now these are masculine words so it makes sense

soach(i)- is feminine so the rules are different

    we cant do this

even if we could it would mean

to think thinking does will not happen

if we argue that the secone soach(i) is a verb too

by thinking and thinking (it/finding God does not happen)

that would make now sense cause sochai is a verb and it would have to be sochai sochai

so basically in Gurbani each akhar each letter is cruicial

that one sihari in the second word soch(i) tells us this tukh is reffering to purification

hope this helps - fatheh g

  16. So what I am getting so far (in terms of Japji's structure) is that it opens with a core definition of Waheguru. The Sikh conceptualisation of God. Then it poses the question of human existence and achieving fulfillment, highlighting common practices man engages in to do this with an emphasis on their futility. This enables us to avoid wasting time with these for spiritual progress. Interestingly it warns us about simply stilling the mind through concentration/meditation, thinking this will lead to contentment. This is important because this very thing (for me at least) has become a focus of my attempts at bhagti. So obviously one needs to go beyond that.

It ends by posing the question of the method that allows one to live a truthful existence outside of the falseness around us, the answer to which is to live inline with the divine hukam.

So what is this divine hukam? What is its nature?

That is what the next pauri seems to be about:

Fateh g actually it opens with the words aad sach

the word sach means eternal n God is sach

the whole bani describes how to become sachiar

the mool mantar is actually seperate from Jap Ji Sahib

the word Jap is the name of the bani

it is where the bani starts

from ik oangkaar to gurparsadi is the mool mantar

it is found before raags and banis and sets of shabads in the Guru Granth Sahib

the words ik oangkar sati gurparsadi is the summary of Guru Granth Sahib

there is only one everpresent ik ras sarab viapak God who is met by his nadar (grace) hope this helps g bhul chuk maff
