a ppl without a history is like a tree without roots.
those that do not learn from the mistakes history teaches us is bound to make the same mistakes.
what is interesting though is the different cultural viewpoints towards history... esp comparing the importance placed on the empirical study of history in the west with the semi-factual semi-mythological view of history which seemed prevalent in ancient india (eg janamsakhis)
Excellent point.

Because it helps us understand people and societies. It is significant to me, as I'm a Finance and History major.

People always fear what is different...
White people do crazy shit all the time, but no one in America is afraid of them...
They just see a brown guy they are scared, even more so if a turban and beard is involved...just ignorance.
After Timothy McVeigh blew up the Oklahoma City building, white men fitting his "profile" were not stopped...or the abortion clinic bombers: most are conservative christians...I don't see profiling there...or what about kkk, lol that should be an easy profile...white hicks that admin cut their sisters..lol...so sad people are so ignorant..
ps all 9/11 hijackers looked western...none had beards or turbans, and all wore western clothes...just think about that...

i think we all had enough after the homosexuality in budha dal uk thread.
but just a response to infernal bandar... it's not just come out of the closet recently. most of the ancient cultures (eg greeks, egyptians etc) had liberal attitudes towards homosexuality, & it wasn't an issue. what did seem to be important though was whether u were on the 'giving' end (acceptable) or on the 'receiving' (embarrassing & humiliating).
Hey now, lets have some respect for all da monks out there...
But yeah I did say it has existed for thousands of years...but when I said it has recently come out of the closet I meant that in current day culture...With the major religions looking down upon it, it was put into the closet...began with the rise of Christianity as a major world power in late 4th century (sorry I wasn't clear enough).
i'm starting to wonder why only you and i are either brave or stupid enough to risk saying anything in this thread with the exception of Infernal Monkey who didn't say much...I thought I answered your original question which was what we believe Sikhi's stance on homosexuality to be...I said we are all equal..so no segregating. Plus I said we should learn more about it before we begin passing judgments...Is it a mental condition? or is it conditioning? or is it just another way for people to be? I don't know..I don't think we should pass judgment on something we don't know much about...ignorance is a bad thing...
sorry if the above is not coherent...I'm tired, and still on...lol

I understand, about his anger...but he went to far...and that is what is more important.
Life is too precious, I know its not good to hear your daughter wants to move in with a guy at 17, especially when you are indian..but killing her?
I'm sorry but him stabbing her 11 times is so stupid....I mean what did he hope to accomplish? Preserve "izzat" by stabbing his own daughter?!
Shit..
-
Dumbasses...
He needs to be shot...how can you ever stab your own kid 11 times, and then even after they are dead...how (edited) up...This guy needs to be stabbed...

So, I'm assuming in trying to be fair, that women can have more than one husband?
Sorry I fail to see the equality in a man having more than one wife, if women aren't allowed to do the same. The idea of polygamy doesn't sit to well with me. If in marriage two souls become one, then what about 3, 4, 5, 6 souls? idk...
I have heard before that back in the day polygamy was practiced, but I don't understand what the support for it was? Does anybody know? I've even heard that some of the Gurus had more than one wife? Did they ever address this concept? I'd be interested in knowing...

The World without Religion
in General Discussion
Posted
Well, just refer to the title...do you think it would be a better place without religion? I know this is a religion site, but I just wanted to hear people's opinions on this.
I mean look at all the evil things done in the name of religion, wars, inquisitions, hatred, etc.. so many problems...or do you believe that such things are just human nature, and would have occurred irrespective of religion.
