fateh - its not about people purposly breaking their rehat because they feel like they have to eat meat or cut their hair - its about will power and fear of waheguru - spmeone who has that prem inside them will automatically follow their rehat... its simple

yeh if some people dont feel they can keep their rehat - then they shouldnt take amrit just yet and practise keeping their rehat until they are ready

however - some poeple are very strong willed and they can keep it - when i took amrit i was 14 yrs old - and i never ate nothin but meat - i gave up meat in one night and havent touched it since - i had never really dont regular paat prior to that - i made up my mind about my life and how i was goign to live it - so i have lived by that same promise ever since - people make it out that its easy to keep ur rehat - in this day and age it is very hard - with so much distractions and barriers holding people, not everyone is the same - not everyone can hold back from these things

obviously if someone breaks their rehat unknowingly and they realise their mistake - they can ask for forgivness... there is nothing wrong in that - it helps people learn and become humble

dont u think that someone who cannot keep amrit and takes off their kakars is better then someone who keeps their kakars on and eats meat -drinks and all this other stuff??

ironically this issue could be solved very easily if peeps like SGPC were a little more liberal...but i mean liberal with works such as hakayat and triya charitrer in the dasam granth.

triya charitrer (i think im spelling it wrong, the 404 stories of women) talks about most issues related to this kind of stuff but the sgpc say it is not gurus bani because it is too "obscene". people forget what the aim of this epic writing actually is - to educate people on how this kind of stuff is WRONG.....a growing problem in sikhism is teens having premarital sex....if they read triya charitrer they would see exactly WHY they shouldnt.

anyway, ill stop ranting lol. in triya charitrer i believe guruji classes homosexuality in the same catagory as incest etc, its unnatural and ethically wrong, but theres no quranic draconian laws like KILL THE GAYS or anything like that. anand karaj should definately NOT be for gay people, and they should learn to subdue their kaam, in my opinion.

to MI, on the language issue, stop paying so much attention to the language. No one is perfect, and let people do as they wish. We are punjabi so english isn't even part of our culture, so we should all speak punjabi instead, oh but wait the current punjabi is so heavily influenced by hindi that it is no longer the same..SGGS is not written in the "modern punjabi". All I'm trying to say is that don't concentrate so much on the language rather the SGGS and it's message. Nothing else matters if you love god, god is not quite so judgemental.

fateh mr singh - well the main thing is that u are sitting down to read gurbani... no one can fully understand gurbani fully first time... first month... first yr.... gurbani is kinda like punjabi but in more of a formal way... and most words that are used in gurbani uve never would have heard of ever... let alone be able to pronounce or understand them

this is the beauty of it.... u will always be learning something new... if u dont understand it - then learn paat at the gurdwara where they can teach u how to pronounce every word properly and also tell u the meanings

u can get gutkas which have the gurmuki writing... with the way to pronounce it underneath in english.... and accross the page u have the meaning of every akar.... now u cannot really get any better then that can u - a very good one is "sacred nitnem" by harbans singh dobai
