vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
Some Sevadaars are putting together a University Guide for prospective Sikh students in the UK to provide information on various Universities across the country from a Sikhi perspective.
If you are a student in the UK at any University please can you take the time to fill out the questionnaire below as fully as possible and paste the replies in this thread.
If you have any questions or suggestions please post them in this thread or email santsipahi@hotmail.co.uk.
Hopefully this guide will include information on local Gurdwaras, youth programmes and Sikh Societies. As we all know there are many resources out there that provide academic information, but it would be nice to have information from a Sikhi-perspective too.
Thank you for your help : )

The Sikh University Guide 2009-2010
Thank you for agreeing to take part in this questionnaire. The answers provided herein will form the basis of a forthcoming Sikh University Guide ebook. Please be as detailed as possible in your answers as they will act as an invaluable source of information to all your younger brothers and sisters who are considering applying to your University.
City: University:
1. Approximately how many Sikhs are there in your city?
2. How many Universities are there in your city?
3. How many Sikh students are studying at your University?
4. Is there a Sikh Society at your University? If so, please describe its role and activities (preferably providing a weekly/monthly or yearly timetable). Please provide the society’s email address.
5. Is there a Gurdwara Sahib in your city? If so, how many? Please provide full addresses.
6. Are there any Sikhi-related programmes for the youth in your city organised by the Gurudwara Sahib or other Sikh organisations? If so, please describe them.
7. Describe how other students and the public treat you as a Sikh.
8. What would you say to Sikh students who are thinking about studying at your University?

Guru Sahib has made each one of us the way we are. We should be able to accept that - no question about it. It's Guru Sahib's HUKAM...
hukam rajaaee chalanaa naanak likhiaa naal =
O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukam of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. (japji sahib)
We should be happy with the way Guru Sahib has created us and although we make oursleves look neat and smart so to look respectable, we shouldn't be too worried about our physical beauty:
maal kai maanai roop kee sobhaa eith bidhhee janam gavaaeiaa =
You are wasting this life in the pride of wealth and the splendor of beauty. (siree rag - 24 sggs)
In Guru Sahib's Will everyone will settle down to have a husband/wife - until then we should wait, regarding each other as bros/sisters - and when a person does get married, i don't think they should be worrying about their beauty either. Personally i think a singhnee looks beautiful in Guru Sahib's roop, just the way she has been Created, following Guru Sahib's bani. same with a singh.
bhul chukh maaf - i'm sorry if i offended anyone, these are just a moorakh's views...

Thanks for your comments.
If you've ever studied in a city where there are no fellow Sikhs you'll know that returning to Sangat can have a tremendously uplifting effect on your spirits. That question is simply to let people know if there are any Sikhs at all, and how big or small the community is in a particular city.
Once again there are many resources, websites and contacts which provide information on academia, education, research and the cost of living. The objective of this guide is to provide extra information from a Sikhi-perspective.
The sevadaars are not saying that these issues are the most important things about choosing a University.
