  1. Sikhs are supposed to be leaders, right?

Well, I'm running for president of my school's student council (and I'm the only Indian at my school  ). But, I was just wondering if any of you have ever run for a leadership role such as this and can give me some tips about campaigning, etc., and especially on what to say in my speech to make it real good. I want to win because I love my school and it will look good on Sikhs in my community too, I bet. Thanks in advance!

oh yea GO TO THE CAMP! you will get loads of info and its really fun! im not going, but i went to one before and its REALLY FUN !!! you learn a lot from your peers!

I'm 17 :(...yes im a fresher...and im busy that wknd  ...but my friend is 19, so she mite go...sikh camps ROCK (if theyre done well lol)

is there considerate amount of sikhs living in london, Ontario??

Yeah there's TONS!! london is not like some hicktown

Do u see lot of youths in the london local gurdwara?? If yes? then you gotta chance there...to involve punjabi youths in sikhi.

well it depends...if we advertise for a paat or a kirten...we get TONS of ppl...but usually there's only a few who show up otherwise(youths i mean)...but there are a BUNCH of sikh youth not only in uni but in high school too...we had enuf 2 have a punjabi language credit course last yr (there were like 25 kids in the class)...the problem is no one really cares much ne more b/c all the ppl who used 2 run camps and stuff and get involved with the youth have moved away (to toronto and vancouver lol)... :(

starting up a sikh youth group is HARD!

    WE KNOW!! :S

im surprised that the gurdwara doesn't have a sikh students association b/c lots of sikhs go to western uni!

ya they used 2 have one but politics n stuff...which brings us 2 another point what if theres ppl that r really into the whole politics deal?!?! u cant just SHUN them lol...grr politics is not sikhi   !!!

anyway thanx 2 everyone 4 ur input...kp postin us plz!!

    Here's the deal

My friend and I are looking to start a local SSA at our gurdwara, and we've searched around but we really have no idea how to go about doing it...so, if you guyz no of n e websites or can post info here or something, that'd be great...btw we're canadian, so if there's like a canadian sikh students assoc out there, we'd like to hear about it....(we found a website for a canadian sikh council, but it hasnt been updated in like 2 yrs...)

    Thanks in advance!

  6. when i am in times of sadness i find it helpful to think about how lucky i m and how thankful i should be...i know its hard not to feel sorry for urself and ur situation, which i know is not the greatest, but try thinking about all the things that you have which others dont....like you have a computer (or acess to one anyway, as u posted this message)...and you have a wide group of ppl available AND WILLING 2 help u online!! im sure if u start thinking about it, you will realize how much u have and maybe u will begin to feel better...anyway feel free to e-mail me and talk about how ur doing!

  7. what about girlz that keep long hair and shave their legs, etc. and/or tweeze their eyebrows?

I know some ppl think its unsightly for women to keep long hair, but its WHO YOU ARE!

i mean i know that for kidz that don't live in toronto/vancouver/other major sikh centers in the western world that they wanna fit in cuz i mean theyre usually WAYY different from their friends at school and stuff, and we've kinda been "brainwashed" into thinking that its disgusting if you have hairy legs (for women), but still...anyway thats just my two cents and feel free to comment! :)
