God is one, basic principles are same among all religions , then why some religions (Christian , Muslim etc.) allow to eat meat?
Regarding the topic of this present thread, that much I could say : Satgur bajoh hor kachee hae Bani.
In one of the 10 commandments of christianism, it is said : Thou shall not kill.
It does not say do not kill men, or u can kill animals, it just says: thou shall not kill. For any killing implicates creating "karam".
The law of karma, is not known nor accepted by many, yet it is verily true.
Then too, not only the basics of any dharam count, but after that, the higher teachings are very important also as per Gurmat, in order to reach that ultimate reality of Waheguru.
Creation is imperfect and has to continue running like that somehow, and its explanations maybe out of the reach of our limited minds, thus not accept the higher truths as per Gurbani.
Our main duty is to have cleared up our minds with the aid of Gurbani in order to fulfill our objective in human life of merging our surtees in Him, and also do the needful and be helpful to all beings as nishkam seva, for in all resides His Jot.
Rest is all His hukum, which we may never understand, until we merge in Him and become one with Him, the highest level of consciousness or chetanta.

An eye opener verse from the Bani
Ganathai Saev N Hovee Keethaa Thhaae N Paae ||
That devotion which is calculated in numbers is no devotion at all,
and what is done is not approved,
thus time wasted for nothing is achieved

Question 16: Dear Guru Jee, why is it that throughout the Bani, only the praises of Nam bhakti are mentioned, yet , hardly anyone pays attention and adheres himself/herself to it, but rather they faithfully do all sort of practices?
Guru Jee: dear sikh, please bear in mind that nobdoy by himself/herself can follow the path of Nam realization within, for it is not in their hands at all, and because:
ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਇ ਲਾਏ ॥
Sachaa Sach Dhaathaa Karam Bidhhaathaa Jis Bhaavai This Naae Laaeae ||
The True Lord is the True Giver, the Architect of Destiny; as He pleases, He links some mortals to the Name, all others run according to their manmat.

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
Those who implant the Word of the Guru's Shabad within their hearts
cut their connections with the five passions.
They keep the ten organs under their control;
their souls are enlightened. ||1||
They alone acquire such stability,
whom God blesses with His Mercy and Grace. ||1||Pause||
Friend and foe are one and the same to them.
Whatever they speak is wisdom.
Whatever they hear is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
Whatever they see is meditation. ||2||
They awaken in peace and poise; they sleep in peace and poise.
That which is meant to be, automatically happens.
In peace and poise, they remain detached; in peace and poise, they laugh.
In peace and poise, they remain silent; in peace and poise, they chant. ||3||
In peace and poise they eat; in peace and poise they love.
The illusion of duality is easily and totally removed.
They naturally join the Saadh Sangat, the Society of the Holy.
In peace and poise, they meet and merge with the Supreme Lord God. ||4||
They are at peace in their homes, and they are at peace while detached.
In peace, their bodies' duality is eliminated.
Bliss comes naturally to their minds.
They meet the Lord, the Embodiment of Supreme Bliss. ||5||
In peaceful poise, they drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
In peace and poise, they give to the poor.
Their souls naturally delight in the Lord's Sermon.
The Imperishable Lord abides with them. ||6||
In peace and poise, they assume the unchanging position.
In peace and poise, the unstruck vibration of the Shabad resounds.
In peace and poise, the celestial bells resound.
Within their homes, the Supreme Lord God is pervading. ||7||
With intuitive ease, they meet the Lord, according to their karma.
With intuitive ease, they meet with the Guru, in the true Dharma.
Those who know, attain the poise of intuitive peace.
Slave Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||8||3||

Question 15: Pyare Guru Jee, which is the greatest blessing that Waheguru can bestow on anybody, and how do we recognize it?
Guru Jee: dear sikh, just as when a father hugs his child, it represents an expression of pure love which is the most precious , for in his arms the child is most safe . Though this is a very high expression of love, yet the 2 remain as individuals.
But when Waheguru blesses with His love to the sikh, He embraces him in such a way, that the child merges in Him and becomes Father Himself, means, full consciousness, full awareness, complete transformation.
And that is nothing but His grace, as seen in the following verse :
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Dheeno Har Naamaa Poorab Sanjog Milaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
In His Mercy, the Lord has blessed me with His Name. My pre-ordained destiny (of God realization) has been fulfilled.
With His mercy, He blesses us with the understanding that Nam is the only eternal Truth, and by attaching ourselves to it through the simran of His holy Name, we get ferried across the Mahabhavsagar and reach His abode, thus fulfill our purpose of coming as human beings.
Truly speaking, this is a mark of His real grace, for He can never give us any such thing by His own, except Nam, for it would mean to remain away from Him and strongly engaged in the cycle of 84.
Every other thing we get, is by the merits and seeds of our karmas, but only Nam bhakti, is a blessing from Him as a sign of His Infinite love for us. Guru Jee, clearly constantly repeats throughout the Bani, as per which bhakti pleases Him, yet we remain deaf and blind to His divine words, and proudly as deep ignorants do faithfully our manmat, the limited number of breaths which we brought as our credit, is wasted away in manmat practices, thus return as empty handed fools, upon departure of this plane of consciousness, with the aid of that jam doots then beat us, for wasting away the gift of human life in such a foolish manner due to our manmat and worldly runnings after maya...
Nam bhakti as per Bani is a must for all jeevas from all walks of lives, it is not as many believe it to be for the high avastha ones only... or when I become a better person, only then I can do His Nam bhakti... No, that is totally wrong. We start becoming better, since the very moment we enshrine the Truth of His holy Name in our hearts, in our minds....
Stay blessed.

The Five Deadly Sins
In Sikhism there are 5 sins which are deadly. They are considered deadly because the prevent you from living a truthful life and getting closer to God. It is therefore in our best interest to help get as far away from these sinful states of mind, as possible.
The five deadly sins are:
• Kam Lust
• Krodh Anger
• Moh Attachment
• Lobh Greed
• Hankar Pride
Kam –- Lust
I do not think at all, that the student from Englando who wrote this article above is correct, for he is mistaking vikars for sins.
The vikars are within us, in our minds, but they by themselves are not sins, though we can say, that under their influences, it is most probably to commit sins/ bad karmas.
Which is a very different thing.
We also have positive attributes within us, just as peace, humility, forgiveness, awareness, etc ..... but unless we do some action under their influences, we do not create good karmas/punya.
Ultimately, we have to be good and build a high and a noble character, if we want to walk on the higher path of spirituality.
For being good, we attract blessings from Him, which is very much required, if we love Him and want to merge in Him, for then He will arrange things for us in that way, that we may reach His abode for sure.
He is the doer of our "melaap" with Him
Stay blessed.

Can any abhiyaasi Gurmukh please validate the position of Dasam dwaar. All this while I was under the impression that it is the crown of the head - the Sahastra Chakra. I feel a sensation there at the meditation time.
Brother Still Nascent,
the Bani when refers to 10 doors, though some may take those doors as the different chakras(energy centers) we have within us, I believe the doors mentioned are as follows: 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 nostrils, mouth, and the 2 lower apertures; being the tenth one, the one referred as the 3rd eye, or above and between the eyes.
You see, through these 9 apertures our attention, our consciousness, is dispersed/scattered in the mayavee nashvant creation, but it is by concentration at the 3rd eye, that we collect our consciousness and enter the spiritual realms and move upwards, towards Sach Khand where Waheguru the Highest Consciousness resides.
Though once in the subtler spiritual realms, one can move freely there where one is instructed as per different techniques or means of concentration in any of the chakras right from the base of the spinal cord upto the one in the top of the head.
To clear a bit more the point of ten doors, following are some verses from the Bani, special attention those in black
mai har har naam adhaar rameeaa |
I take the Support of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
iKnu plu rih n skau ibnu nwvY gurmuiK hir hir pwT pVeIAw ]1] rhwau ]
khin pal rehi n sako bin naavai guramukh har har paath parreeaa |1| rehaao |
I cannot live, for a moment, even for an instant, without the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukh reads the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
eyku igrhu ds duAwr hY jw ky Aihinis qskr pMc cor lgeIAw ]
eaek girahu dhas dhuaar hai jaa kae ahinis thasakar panch chor lageeaa |
In the one house of the body, there are ten gates; night and day, the five thieves break in.
Drmu ArQu sBu ihir ly jwvih mnmuK AMDuly Kbir n peIAw ]2]
dharam arath sabh hir lae jaavehi manamukh andhulae khabar n peeaa |2|
They steal the entire wealth of one's Dharmic faith, but the blind, self-willed manmukh does not know it. ||2||
The five thieves referred as robbers, is because, the wealth of Nam as well as other attributes are within us, but, by being scattered in the mayavee creation through the 9 doors, or apertures of the body, throughout the whole day, one remains unaware and devoid of that True wealth, thus goes as a paupper at the time of his/her departure from this world.
That is why Guru Jee, tells us to enter through that 10 th gate or door, with the concentration of Nam, Gurparsad, as seen in my post above and enter into the spiritual realms, and move towards the direction ( Nanak Nam jahaaz hae, jinee chareeya se utareeya paar)of Sach Khand, the only permanent and eternal abode of Supreme Reality.

I have a question in regards to Dukh Bhanjani Sahib and that is, which Guru was it written by and what is the purpose behind it?
Gurfateh
cybersing jee,
the purpose of this Bani as well as any other, is only to get us purified in order to re-unite ourselves with Him, through the prem bhakti of the jaap of His paviter Nam, as seen in the following verses.
Dhukh Bhanjan Thaeraa Naam Jee Dhukh Bhanjan Thaeraa Naam ||
The Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name, Lord; the Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name.
To some the question now may arise as per how should it be done, well, it should be done as much as possible in the early hours of Amrit Vela, otherwise any time is good to wash away our countless paaps, that is why Guru Jee facilitates us by saying:
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Aath Pehar Aaraadhheeai Pooran Sathigur Giaan ||1|| Rehaao ||
Twenty-four hours a day, dwell upon the wisdom of the Perfect True Guru. ||1||Pause||
All time is auspicious time, if only He is remembered through His holy Name.
What other benefits happen, when clings on to His Lotus Feet through His Name?
Many beautiful things happen of which we could not even imagine, for example :
ਜਮ ਕੰਕਰੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥
Jam Kankar Naerr N Aavee Rasanaa Har Gun Gaao ||1||
The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord with the tongue. ||1|
Then one more most beautiful thing:
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨੫॥
Kahu Naanak Man Bhaeiaa Paragaasaa Paaeiaa Padh Nirabaanee ||4||4||125||
Says Nanak, the Divine Light has dawned within my mind; I have obtained the state of Nirvaanaa. ||4||4||125|
Waheguru Akal Purukh Himself comes to abide in our minds.
What else can one want? What else is left to ask for?
Stay blessed.

Veer Bhupinder Singh ji (thelivingtreasure.com) came to Calgary for a day and gave a katha/lecture and touched various topics like nasha.. tension.. composition of SGGSJ etc etc
overall it was good. i would say he is a brilliant orator and the way to interpret bani is quite "modern".
in that "modern" interpretation he interpreted the line from Japuji sahib "denda de lenda thak paahe" as:
the Giver keeps giving all the daata (of bhakti, intellectualism, naam ras, satbuddhi, goodness, etc etc) always, as soon as the person gets it (only when he knows how to get it) then his mind becomes settled down (that means all tension gone, he becomes blissful)
so according to Veer ji, he said thak paahe means "settled down".
he said in all the kathas and teekas he has seen it as thak paahe = get tired
Babaji keeps giving so much that we get tired.. this makes no sense because we never get tired .. trishna never does.
so in essence he kept saying Gurbani khud khojo.. u will get new meanings.. old meannings does not mean they r right..
if with old meanings u get 50% elevated in avastha.. and with new meaning u get 60% so that concludes new meanings are better.
ii need ure opinion sangat need ure opinion sangat..
Well brother curious man jee,
from what I understand, is that, the all powerfull Waheguru Akal Purukh, will continoussly keep satisfying all our desires which keep on arising without any stop, for He is as great as only He is.
Eventually, we may get tired of asking, but He Sachay Patshah, never ever gets tired nor short, even if the whole of the "kaenaat" gets together and keeps asking countless times ....
Denda de : The bountless Giver, nonstop keeps on giving whatsoever is asked from Him
lenda thak paahe: to the extent that in the end, the receiver gets tired of asking and receiving.

While the *Battle of Kurushetra was at its peak, Arjuna and Karna were fighting each other.* It was a battle to witness, a flurry of arrows were being exchanged, and even Gods were witnessing this epic battle between the 2 warriors.
Arjuna would shoot his arrows and the impact of these arrows would be so much that Karna’s chariot would go back by 25-30 feet. People who witnessed this were amazed by the skills of Arjuna.
Karna was no less. When he shot arrows, Arjuna’s chariot would also shake and go back by 3-4 feet.
More than everyone, Krishna would applaud Karna every time his arrow hit Arjuna’s chariot. But *not once did He applaud Arjuna’s skills !*
At the end of the day, Arjuna asked Krishna: “Oh Lord, I have shot so many arrows at Karna’s chariot, it was being displaced like a feather in wind, but not once did you appreciate me. Rather, *you would appreciate his skill despite his arrows just displacing my chariot a little”.*
Krishna smiled and replied “Oh, *Arjuna, remember,* your chariot is protected by *Hanuman* at the top on your flag, *Me as your charioteer* in the front and by *Sheshnag* at its wheels, yet the whole chariot would still sway and displace whenever the valiant Karna hit us with his arrows”.
“But *Karna’s chariot is not protected by any such force*, *he is on his own, yet he fights valiantly”.*
It is said that after the battle of Kurushetra was over, Krishna refused to get off the chariot till Arjuna got down. Once Krishna alighted from the chariot, it caught fire and turned to dust.
Krishna said “Oh Arjuna, your chariot was destroyed by Karna a long time ago, it is I who was still protecting it.”
*“Never in your life have the arrogance to say that you have achieved big heights. If you have achieved something, it is the divine will,* it is the divine intervention that has always protected you, cleared your path and *given you the right opportunities at the right time”!*
An excerpt from *Mahabharata* and conveys message to mankind. Though simple but a strong reminder to mankind.
*Be humble, remember, even a little leaf cannot move/sway without Waheguru's Hukum

MEDITATION AND PRAYER
Meditation should not be confused with prayer -silent or vocal.
A devotee prays in a temple, a shrine or at any place considered appropriate by him, while in meditation he worships in the sacred and stainless shrine of atma , which is independent of time , place and distance.
Prayer is an earnest , humble request. In prayer, the devotee talks to the God, communicates his feelings, desires and gratitude to Him. In meditation, the devotee asks nothing of God ; he simply listens to the voice of God within.
In prayer, he gets close to God , while in meditation he strives to become one with God.
In prayer, a dualism between God and devotee exists; in meditation the apparent dualism eventually disappears.
THEREFORE, IT IS BELIEVED BY SOME THAT MEDITATION IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF PRAYER.

Jagath Jalandhaa Rakh Lai Aapanee Kirapaa Dhhaar ||
The world is going up in flames - shower it with Your Mercy, and save it!
Jith Dhuaarai Oubarai Thithai Laihu Oubaar ||
Save it, and deliver it, by whatever method it takes.
Dear OP,
to your enquiry about the 2 verses above, following are my 2 cents:
In the first verse, it is said that the whole world is burning.....
But burning in which way?
Well, the whole creation is burning in the "chaurasee ka ckakar", in the endless cycle of births and deaths.
And the way to get out is mainly by His grace.
Then, in the second verse it is said save it by anyway you think fit.
But the complete interpretation would be best, if we look at the third verse, where it is said:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵੇਖਾਲਿਆ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Sathigur Sukh Vaekhaaliaa Sachaa Sabadh Beechaar ||
The True Guru has shown the way to peace, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad.
Here Guru Jee is very clear, and goes right to the root of the problem to solve it, for as we can see He says that, by contemplating /meditating on the Shabad/Nam as per teachings in Gurmat, we obtain eternal peace and bliss, for it is only by meditating on Nam or Shabad, that one gets freed from the burning cycle of births and deaths, and it is only by doing this bhakti that we merge in our Origin, Akal, Ajoonee, Satnam....
Stay blessed.

Question 14: Dear Guru Jee, why is it that inspite of all the regular practices and offerings to Waheguru I do not get even a glimplse of His darshan?
Guru Jee : my dear sikh, listen carefully; if you really want to have His darshan, you have to discard all other practices which keep you away from Him, and faithfully and devotedly do the following as I say :
ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਕੁੰਚੀ ਜਬ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
Dhasavai Dhuaar Kunchee Jab Dheejai ||
When the key is inserted in the Tenth Gate,
Tho Dhaeiaal Ko Dharasan Keejai ||24||
Then, the Blessed Vision of the Merciful Lord's Darshan is seen.
* Note: the Tenth Gate referred by Guru Jee in the verses above, is located in the center above the 2 eyes; and the key which has to be used to open that Door and have His darshan, is His simran alone.

On 6/13/2015 at 7:28 PM, Paappi said:Can plz anyone tell me the awasthas while meditAting in sikhism.
Dear Paappi ji,
different people may give you different valid replies, but that much in simple words I may tell you that there are 3 stages.
The first one is of realization.
Here one realizes the importance of this type of bhakti of meditating of which you are asking.
We all agree, we are sinners, and our sins are the huge barrier between us and our beloved Lord Waheguru. Therefore we want to get purified with His grace, in order to go there where He is and merge in Him.
In this respect the Bani tells us:
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
Pathith Paavan Har Naamaa ||
The Lord's Name is the Purifier of sinners.
So firstly, we realize that if there is any such thing which can purify us, is that one of meditating on His holy Name only.
Then the second stage is the one of application.
Means, we have to apply to a practical method, a jugtee, or let us say Bhakti, in order to reach our goal, of that which one, that we realized its supreme importance in the first stage, and as said, it was of getting purified.
Now here once again, different questions may arise in different minds, some may ask, how much time should one engage in this practice.... minutes? hours? days? timings? Or some may even think of substituing it with other practices, for that is what they have mainly seen others doing...
But fortunately we have Guru Jee with us, to remind and correct us, and bring us back to the right path again and again, for as Guru Jee tells us :
gur satgur kaa jo sikh akhaa-ay so bhalkay uth har naam Dhi-aavai.
One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name. Not only that much, rather Guru goes a step further by telling us :
Kirapaa Keejai Saa Math Dheejai Aath Pehar Thudhh Dhhiaaee ||
Show Your Mercy, and bless me with such understanding, that I may meditate on You, twenty-four hours a day.
Some may protest and say, why 24 hours?
This also has an explanation, Guru Jee never says anything without a solid reason. Though it is clear, that in the early morning hours we should meditate on Him, but, when He says all the 24 hours, it means, all the maximun time possible should be done, while eating, walking, waiting, jogging, bathing etc.... every step towards Him counts in our favor, for having kept His name the maximum time of the day in our minds, then the result is, that we are unconciouslly subduing the mind, so, when on the next day we sit to meditate in the early hours, our mind will be almost groggy and will not be able to play mischiefs with us, by distracting us with its countless thoughts being poured continously....
The the other reason for which Guru Jee tells us to meditate on Him, all the 24 hours, that is becuase He knows how stupid and weak we are, so in this way, we will focus only on what He wants us to do and not do any sort of manmat of our which we usually do....
And the last and third stage, is that of transformation.
In this respect the Bani says:
Jin Har japeeya se Har hoeeya.
He who repeats His Name, becomes Him.
Thus we are transformed by getting purified with His name, from an alone and a wandering soul in pain, caught in the net of the ceaseless chaurasee ka chakar, into the Infinte and blissful Waheguru Akal Purukh.
This in short, is the mahima of Waheguru and the bhakti of meditating upon His Nao, His Nam, Satnam...
Stay blessed.

Question 13 : Guru Jee, what is that only one thing that we should always ask from Waheguru without fail?
Guru Jee: listen carefully to the following words my dear sikh, and keep them always present in your mind, for in it lies your true welfare.
Kirapaa Keejai Saa Math Dheejai Aath Pehar Thudhh Dhhiaaee ||
Shower me with Your Mercy, and bless me with that such understanding, that I may meditate on You, twenty-four hours a day.

About Coronavirus
This is from a doctor in Hong Kong who consulted with his friend (who currently works on SARS prevention research) on some effective ways to prevent the Coronavirus.
Doctor's advice about coronavirus:
1. It is pretty large in size (cell is about 400-500nm diameter), so any normal mask (not just the N95 feature) should be able to filter it out. However, when someone who's infected sneezes in front of you, it will take a great 3 meters (about 10 feet) before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
2. When the virus drops on metal surface, it will live for at least 12 hours. So remember if you come in contact with any metal surface, wash your hands with soap thoroughly.
3. The virus can remain active on fabric for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent should kill the virus. For winter clothing that does not require daily washing, you can put it out under the sun to kill the virus.
About the symptoms of the pneumonia caused by Coronavirus:
1. It will first infect the throat, so the throat will have the dry sore throat feeling which will last for 3 to 4 days
2. Then the virus will blend into the nasal fluid and drips into the trachea and enter the lungs, causing pneumonia. This process will take 5 to 6 days.
3. With pneumonia, comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You will feel like you are drowning in water. It's important to go seek immediate medical attention if you feel like this.
About prevention:
1. The most common way of getting infected is by touching things in public, so you must wash your hands frequently. The virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 mins, but a lot can happen in those 5-10 mins (you can rub your eyes or pick your nose unwittingly).
2. Aside from washing your hands frequently, you can gargle with Betadine Sore Throat Gargle to eliminate or minimize the germs while they are still in your throat (before dripping down to your lungs).
Folks, take extra care and drink plenty of water.
