  1. I was just wondering how many of you have taken amrit and what problems did you face (if any) ?

Also say if one hasnt taken amrit yet, and probably wont til a while when they are ready to do so.. in the meantime what can you do to start to that path?

Appearance wise, what did you do before you took amrit.. besides the obvious one of not cutting hair ?

What was it like..changing your ways? family/friends reactions? the positives? negatives?

  2. It is stupid, ignorant, liberalist attitude like yours that is providing enough fodder for this ugly violent cult to grow. I am not against PN leaving Sikhism. He may joing Reverand Moonsungs or be a Osho follower for all I care, but I will definitely advice him against joining this cult. This cult is the number one cause of problems for all mankind and if left unchecked, may bring the complete destruction to our civilizations as we know it today.

I recommend you to check out www.faithfreedom.org. Believe me when I say this, this is not a religion but a violent, ugly, cult. I say this based on personal experience and what is written in the Hadiths and Quran.

Raja Ranjit Singh once quoted "The pen is mightier then the sword but what is it without it?" Now think about it, is he advocating violence or was he being practical? Think about it.

What the hell are you on? I wont lower myself and make personal attacks on you. But except for the quote from Raja Ranjit Singh..the rest of what you wrote is total bs.

You seemed to have missed the point of my post but anywayz..who is ignorant and stupid.. only time or then Waheguru can tell.

    peace.

  3. My friend, in that case you should sticky the original thread in which this poem was first posted.

Spamming the forums with the same 'poem' over and over again amounts to nothing but creating an anti-Muslim atmosphere.

Punjabi youths are well informed on the one or two shocking incidents when acts similar to this were brought to the attention of a larger audience. I remember when the Punjabi Mandir commitee or whatever they have in their temple sent a leaflet to my parents warning them about a threat posed by Muslim males towards Sikh and Punjabi Hindu girls. But that was like 7 years ago.

So called poems like this could be as old as from 1997, and to be honest, a hoax.

Im not denying that there have been cases where Mirpuri and other Pakistani males made it a point to target Sikh girls, take them into bed, abuse them for awhile and then treat them like garbage. However, the stuff about a "mission" to convert "Sikh girls" then take them to Pakistan and hold them against their will is digging deep into the World of fiction and hate-propaganda.

Yes, South Asian girls born in the UK have been held in Pakistan and Bangladesh against their will and forced to marry an older man, even a relative, but guess what? None of those girls have been Sikh, they have all been Punjabi, Kashmiri, or Bangladeshi MUSLIMS....

Plus, these people have not been targeting random girls, they have been doing it to their own daughters and sisters...

Gotta agree with PN and lil_princess

Theres so much dislike for Muslims on this site. I thought Sikhi was above this. And please dont tell me I dont know about this so I should let others state their opinions, I aint stopping any one...

But just curious.. have any of you heard of Sikh guys marrying Muslim girls and the girls converting? I have... shocking isnt it? :o

omg Sikh guys are on a mission to convert Muslim girls

I've seen this same poem like a million times now. Interesting how they forced her to stay in Pakistan and then let her get on the net and write a poem. And yes the only place I've heard this happening is in the uk and its never someone's relative or friend, its always something they heard from so n so. Maybe you all need to educate your girls on Sikhi cuz you sure do make them sound stupid.

Of course I'M NOT SAYING that such incidents havent happened. I'm sure there must be a couple of such cases.. and its good to let the public know about it.

Just remember You cant judge everyone on the actions of a few. (I remember some of u saying this to PN in his topic about leaving Sikhism..funny you guys dont stand by this statement when it has to do with other religions)

    Orchids said:

BUT WE HAVE ALLOWED TO MUCH FREEDOM FOR THE GIRLS..

Say what?! What are you on?

  4. You guys are just proving what he's said right when you start telling him not to turn to Islam. Shouldnt you all be more concerned about the main reason of why he's turning away from Sikhi.

Punjabi N - I know exactly how you feel. If one wants to convert to Christianity or Islam, there is the preist or Imam to guide you, there are other ppl who practice the faith that will support you.. unfortunately this isnt so in Sikhism.

Like he said... sure he can read Guru Granth Sahib ji.. but still one needs someone knowledgeable to explain things about the religion to them.

PN I know how you feel because I feel like this most of the time too. My family is Sikh, but most of them arent really into it..they go to the gurdwara and pray.. but thats all. I wanted something more, to take the next steps... but theres no one here to guide me either.

  5. Ok erm I dont know much about this but... Wouldnt it all come down to language? In arabic God is "Allah" ...

The word 'Allah' has either been derived from Uloohiat which means worship or from Aalehan which means amazement. The first statement is correct and Ilah means that which is worshipped.

So its mostly related to language innit? Waheguru=God

In Sikhism the word Waheguru is used to specify for God. However, the basic definition of Waheguru is as given below:

One Universal Creator God. The Name Is Truth. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying, Beyond Birth, Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace (1)

And what the others said above..

Wah - Thou art Wondrous, limitless, and great beyond the power of worldly human reach and speech, Gu-darkness (of ignorance), Ru-manifestation of the Divine Light to remove ignorance. Therefore, the glory of the Divine word, Waheguru (Gurmantar) is supreme. All the Divine virtues of the Almighty are expressed by this Gurmantra - Waheguru. And, if one meditates on this Gurmantra with the right method and complete faith and devotion, then at first the evil impressions of one's mind are erased and then by and by one get dyed in the deep love and devotion of God. With time, the intoxication of the Divine love and devotion becomes so intense that the seeker realizes the Divine within and without and one feels his presence. The mind becomes attuned with the infinite and the all-beautiful.
  6. Ok that sounded well childish.

If you read my whole post then you can clearly see that I said there are things I dont agree with.

And Sikhs DO go around saying that they are real Sikhs while other sikhs (ones that cut their hair etc) are not real Sikhs.. this site has plenty examples of that.

Most muslims dont go around killing and bombing each other. Thats a very stereotypical view.

  7. I personally admire the unity in Islam, the positives of the hijab, the strong sense of belief in their religion, the experience of Hajj.

Course theres things I dont agree with..but there are things about Islam that are very interesting.

  8. BabbarSher - Your right. I'm sorry I assumed something that wasnt there. I guess I got a bit fed up having to defend why I believe what I do.

But I'm going to try to answer your questions as best as I can according to my beliefs, and although I do not agree with the marriage issue..I still do have nothing but love and respect for Waheguru and all of our Guru jis.. just I guess its in a different way then others. :)

I had sometime ago heard of a quote from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which I am giving below:

It is by Guru Amar Dass Ji and he gives a definition of Husband and Wife:

    mÚ 3 ]

    Third Mehl:

    mÚ 3 ]

    mehlaa 3.

Dn ipru eyih n AwKIAin bhin iekTy hoie ]

They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together.

Dn ip{ Eih n AwKIAin bhin ekTy hoe ]

Dhan pir ayhi na aakhee-an bahan ikthay ho-ay.

eyk joiq duie mUrqI Dn ipru khIAY soie ]3]

They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies. ||3||

Ek joiq due mUrqI Dn ip{ khIEy soe ]3]

    ayk jot du-ay moortee Dhan pir kahee-ai so-ay. ||3||

As you can see.....in the light of Gurbaani, Husband and Wife are one light in two bodies. Such is the relationship advocated by Gurbaani.

^When I read this quote.. I thought, could it maybe mean that both the husband and wife should believe in God but not necessarily in the same way? Could the light mean belief in one God creating all mankind and seeing all ppl equally? You would spiritually connect with someone if their belief was the same as that and so was yours, regardless of religious customs.

Because this is what I believe. This is how I would interpret this quote if I read it myself without anyone else's input.

Now when we talk about inter-religious marriages, I am of the opinion that it is tough to have the relationship advocated above. The reasone being that religion is to do with the spirit. It has to do with the belief, with the faith.

Lets take an example of different religions. I would like to ask you a few questions and ascertain for your self the truth of whether religions differ !

    1. Jews: Who according to Judaism is a true Jew ? What is the ultimate word of God ? Is God jealous of the other dieties ? What are the qualities of God ? Who is entitiled to meet God?

    2. Christians: Who is the only son of God? Who is our only saviour in this world? Since Christianity is all about love (like Christians say) OR do we have to go to this saviour still ? Who is entitiled to meet God?

    3. Muslims: What is the perfect religion? Who is the best and the ultimate prophet of God? Can we be saved through any other prophet? What do we have to say to meet God ..kalim? Is it ok to just praise God..and love our fellow human beings ...or do we need to do anything more than that?

    4. Buddhism: Is there any God? If not what is the purpose of our existence? If we are not going to meet him because u are silent on this issue....whats the prpose of living a good life.....we might as well freak out each time we come back through reincarnation?

Whatever the answers, you will realise that all the above mentioned religions are different in their views

^Of course religions differ. Bhaji.. I never said they didnt, if I did it was my mistake :?

Sikhism is on the other hand a unifying religion. Why ? Because the Gurus choose not to mock the other religions before them? They only criticised the stupid practices of these religions. The Gurus instead of focussing on converting' date=' asked these people to delve into their religion and go into the spirtual aspect and practise it, keeping their faith in their prophets. [/quote']

^See thats what I love about Sikhism, that it is a unifying religion. And that is why even with the quotes provided, I dont understand why marriages between different faiths arent allowed. Sure such marriages are much more difficult than ones of the same faith, but each person should be able to have this choice, no?

^Thinking all people are equal no matter what their religion, and respecting your partner's religion and being open about differences, respecting each other's views .. this would allow for both to connect spiritually, wouldnt it?

Yes I understand both wouldnt be able to connect spiritually with Sikhism, or the other religion, only one of them would (with the religion they are following).. but to respect another religion and have tolerance for it, isnt that a good thing?

    Well thats what I believe.

^Such things would have to be discussed before the marriage. The husband and wife would have to make their opinions known and still be able to respect the other religion. Because yes, otherwise there would be problems in the marriage regarding such things.

But what about when a Sikh girl is married to a 'Sikh' guy and he turns out to be completely different after marriage, cheats on her, starts drinking etc and vice versa. Can those two connect on a spiritual level?

^My view on this is that many 'love' marriages are not supported by parents and thus many problems result from just this. These marriages would have the same 50/50 chance if parents and society were more supportive. All we need is a little understanding amongst people.

  9. Yeh I cant stand meat anymore...been a vegetarian for 6-7 yrs now.

What about products that use animal fats? Like how Muslims wont eat any food or products produced using pig.

Is eating products that contain fat from beef or pork or any other animal, alrite?

I didnt realise how many products have ingredients from animal skin.. kinda makes me sick :? and even human hair can be used to create an enzyme used in dough ..das gross

  10. Ello ppl ..ok I didnt know where to post this.. but in Sikhi are there restrictions on food as there are in Islam (halal or not) or Jewism (kosher and nonkosher) ?

And if so.. what are the guidelines for that? And I mean besides the egg/meat issue.. I'm already a vegetarian.
