  1. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh,

I know this thread is abit late, but I thought it might be worth a shot.

I am trying to find any Gurdwaras located in Sri Lanka, so far I have found 4, three being Pehli Patshahi and 1 being Gurdwar Udasi.

I am asking because I am travelling there in the next few days and would like to visit one or all of them.

I cannot find any addresses, phone numbers, email addresses etc..

I have found that there is a gurdwara in Dibar, Batticaloa, which is on the East side of Sri Lanka, I have found Batticaloa, but Dibar is nowhere, nor is Koti.

Please if anybody can help let me know.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

  2. All the Gurus were yogis, but the definition of a true yogi is one who is one with God. You can find it in Guru Granth Sahib ji. They didn't need to do kundalini yoga to reach their state. kundalini yoga seems to be a lower spiritual tool than shabad Guru.

A lot of what Yogi ji taught seemed to be Sikhi with some kundalini yoga spice thrown in, not proper Sikhi.

I think it was the other way round, more Yoga with Sikhi thrown in.

Who taught Kundalini Yoga before Yogi bhajan?

  3. i use to admire the 3ho sikhs and i should say that yogi bhajan did bring in some classic singers like charhdikala jatha and snatam kaur, but their path is not something which i would term them rather more of the occult world

I don't believe it has anything to do with the occult world.

    Is this occult??

I don't believe this is occult.

Maybe doing Havans, Mutri Puja, etc is acceptable within Sikhi. I don't know, please correct me.

  4. Hi,

i was at the gurdwara earlier this week and overheard (I know very wrong), a conversation between two people about Shabad Guru.

one was saying sri guru granth sahib ji is shabad guru, the other was saying its a sound vibration, anhad shabad which is shabad guru...

can I get some member views, with references, what their opinions are, based on their education, etc?

I have read similar articles on the internet, mostly from the 3HO camp, claiming that all Sikh Gurus were Yogis..

They pay heavy attention to Sri SatGuru Ram Das Ji, throw in abit of Aquarian Age material and you have what they call, the Real Sikhi.

Is there an element of truth to this? or is this all made up stuff to promote their Yoga business (because thats what it is)

Amandeep has deepened his connection with Yogi Bhajan. Life has been blooming with teaching opportunities at Yoga Centers around the world. This rich amalgam of traditions and teaching is allowing him to serve the divine mission of Guru Ram Das to create a heart-centered world and to bring the healing love of Guru Ram Das into these times of turmoil as we move from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age.

I am not against anything, just curious...

  6. the word god invokes a different concept in different peoples' minds, everyone has a different idea of what god is. those who *know* god can only explain god to those who do not know by using the idea of god, the concept of god. the knowing of god exists at birth, but the intellectual concept of god, as we understand it, is taught to us by the world.

I agree, the word God does invoke a different type of image of God in christians than in Sikhs, or Hindus, etc.

I remember that Suleman tape, where that ghost said, whoever has met God can help you meet God.

What does Gurbani say about this? and other scriptures from other faiths?

  7. I cant give any proof...Its been such a long time since I was in the womb, i've forgotten everything that I said/did.

However , this is what I've been told by preachers in gurdwaras.

'everyone is born a sikh' ;first time I've heard of this. But I have heard that 'everyone is born a MUSLIM, but changes afterwards'. Hence the term 'reverting' back to islam!

Another thing is that I believe we as humans have a natural tendency to want to feel that there is a greater being than us, ie God/ Mother Nature etc. Initially this may be in the form of our parents who we think as unfallible and always right but then it evolves into something more supernatural.

In other words I believe that all Humans are born Theists, inc babies ( but they just cannot communicate it). Only later when we become educated and start using reason and logic and our experiences do we start denying God.

I love the smart comments on this forum. (highlighted in bold)

Everybody is born a Sikh - Can't remember where I heard or read that, I am sure somebody knows who coined that. Well whoever said this, said it because, we as Sikhs, don't alter our natural bodies in anyway, well thats the idea anyway. For example, no cutting of the hair, no circumcision, piercings, etc.

I have heard of the Muslim saying "everybody is a muslim when they are born" on youtube and from muslims. Hindus say that everybody on the planet was a hindu first, well I'll correct myself, Sanatan Hindu Dharam....

This statement has less to do with Human Nature and more to do with conversion or reversion arguments.

As for Humans having a natural tendancy towards something bigger than themselves, i.e. your assertion of them being Theiests, I don't agree with that at all, because this has not been proven.

To actually know, we must first explore Human Nature (not Human Behaviour), we must, lets say have a bunch of babies, isolate them from the known world and everything in it and see how they develop. I think thats abit extreme. We could have a controlled environment, where children are not taught about god at all, they only have language skills, speaking, reading, writing, etc....Then we can ask them, "do you feel anything"....

People who believe in God will always say certain things to support that belief in God, same goes for everybody else, I guess..

I think there were experiments done on children by one of the mughal kings to see what the language of god was.

  8. what i meant was that someone wrote that nonveg diet restricts or neutralises any spiritual advancement. I from personal experience beleive that to be untrue.

I think the 3HO crew say that a veggie diet is a must, infact, nearly all Yogis say that meat is bad for spiritual advancement.

To be honest, I don't know, so I can't comment.

When I connect, this will be the first place where I will share my experience in great detail.

  9. all babies are illiterate and cant even count, either.

Plus they are dumb.....so what is her point? That we should remain in the same intelectual/spiritual state as we were when born?

Also hows about the idea that foetuses spend 9 months in the mothers womb doing Katthan tapasya asking god to release them from the pain of living in the womb, and promising that they will remember the lord in gratitude after taking birth.

I understand what you are saying, infact I also understand her point too.

About Katthan Tapasya, please provide some proof?, thats what people will say.

But it is a interesting point to make, akin to what some people say "everyone is born a sikh".

  10. That kakaars are given by hindu devtas can also be found in Daya Singh rehitnama I think which is 18th century.

I think its more of a symbolic story suggesting that the devtas supported maharaj (ie. hindus should join his cause) and not in the negative way we read it today ie. Guru needed their help..

I think my question to the writer would be, why would you write it like that? To get the hindus on your side?

Are there any works written by "sikhs"** that make symbolic references to any Islamic literature/characters, angels, etc, etc

  11. Sikhi is and has largely been a oral tradition. If you read books from Damdami taksal they lay great stress on seena baseena traditions, this is how knowledge was imparted. It could be interesting though to take the earliest litterature we have from damdami taksal and compare it to what they teach today to see if the teachings are consistent or if there has been any changes..

What is orally given? Can you be specific?

Wouldn't you say having something written is better than having a oral tradition, as oral traditions can easy be perverted, unlike written, which require more work.

  12. good answer, followed by a snide remark, unbreakable ji?

speaking from personal experience only, i was non-veg for 17 years, during which i felt myself grow spiritually, but in the last 3 years since i took amrit, i havent eaten meat, but have definitely not felt or noticed any spiritual advance ment at all.

what i have noticed since taking amrit is the change physically, in that my weight has gone from about 85kg to 70kg, and since avoiding meat in my diet, i have probably every day felt hungry. I definitely am weaker physically.

maybe your doing something wrong. Saying you have not gained anything spiritually, means you are expecting something. I think thats the wrong approach, maybe I am wrong.

I don't make snide remarks, it was a reply. If your spirituallity has not advanced since you left meat, where was it when you were eating meat? and if it was better, then start eating meat then.....simples.

    snide remarks..lol
