  1. exactly, You cannott give to others what you yourself do not have. :). I was told this long time ago, that first light the fire within you. Although it may seem difficult to hold back in expressing your views and helping other with what you have realized. The aim should always be towards the fire of one-self. Then like the quote said, you will need not put any effort, other will come to you seeking for that flame that has been 'given' to you thru kirpa/grace. :)

Is all types of forced conversion wrong. my cousins used to go to sikh camps, when they were younger, and a lot of the time, not all, sikhism was forced upon them. is this wrong?

  2. if you want to reform yourself, don't become a reformer, because you do either one or the other. If you become a reformer, you start changing other people. Don't become a reformer, if you want to be reformed. Then preserve your engery. And the miracle is that if you are reformed, if you are transformed, then many will be transformed through you. Your very catalytic presence will be enough. Just your being there, and many will be thrilled with the unknown. Just your touch, and something will start vibrating in them.

Not that you have to do much, just, if your light is burning, people will start coming towards you; groping in the dark, they will start moving towards you. And as they will be coming closer and closer and closer, one day the unlit lamp becomes lit thru the one who is already lit. The flame jumps from one place to another. Just closeness is needed.

  3. Fantastic bhajo-bhaji (do u watch cricket?) if i could rep u on these boards i would. uve bought forth a few good stories. another one about thorns and roses i heard was in a song sung by babbu mann, where the thorns protect the rose or flower their whole life, and then a bee swoops in and takes the nectar, reffering to non-indian guys coming to india and marrying all the girls, leaving the poor indian boys with no-one.

  4. The moments, during which the hero and his men surrender, are really memorable. 'Jis Ke Sir' is played exactly that time, when Sunil Datt and his men go to surrender on their horses.

There was another religious song 'Paapi Jeeorhiya, Bol Satnam', which was picturised in a great way. Funny Deol must watch this movie, before acting in any movie as a Sikh character. :D

i love it when they shove their guns into the ground.

p.s. ive never heard sunny deol reffered to as funny before. imo, his heart was in the right place he just offended some people along the way. he was good in gadar, and bhagat singh aswell.

  5. Mathematicians are always on the search of maths related theories which explain well everything. for example, in the movie, pi, a mathematician uses fibonacci numbers and a specific 280odd digit number to prove our existence, and everything that happens in nature. this isnt hollywood science either, its fact, people really do search for stuff like this.

"My new Hypothesis: If we're built from Spirals while living in a giant Spiral, then is it possible that everything we put our hands to is infused with the Spiral?"

-- Max Cohen in the motion picture pi.

ie fingerprints, galaxies, shells, black holes, weather systems, planetry orbits, electrons in an atom, electrons in an electric field, particles on collision. u could think of millions of examples and they are summed up by fibonacci numbers etc.

What as sikhs is our take on this subject. do we take it as truthful or what. it doesnt challenge God or anything, not in my view, but many mathematicians and scientists are atheists or skeptists because of theories like this.

  6. Dont buddhists believe that buddha was the incarnation of god, and since then buddha has been incarnated as the dalai lama, which has been passed onto many dalai lamas. on the topic of the current dalai lama he must be the most cheerful, and humerous of all the religious leaders. i saw michael palin interview him on"himalaya with michael palin." he also visited Sri Harmandir shaib ji, and stay overnight in the accomadation in the Gurdwara complex for 65p per night.

  7. The Earth-Time does not define Kal-Yug, Instead the state of the Mind in overall population is what defines it.

You asked how will we be saved? Don't await for a Messiah to save you, the next coming incarnation of the Divine to save you. It is we who must save our ownselves not so much from others, but from our ownselves. It is we who must become the beacon of the Light, and from this Light many other can be saved. In the Dark Age of Kal-yug each and everyone of us must become the light that becomes a symbol for our neighbours. Soon their house is lit and then their neighbours, that is how we are saved. From Light to Light our whole neighbourhood will be lit with undying light.

In my honest opinion the state of mind of the overall population is characteristic of kalyug.

I agree it is we who must save ourselves. but how can i, or us sitting here at home be an influence on the proceedings in the world. surely that is up to God.

  8. If u watch the omen trilogy, the antichrist is the son of the devil borne from a virgin rottweiler(opposed to jesus as the son of god borne to the virgin mary). he is adopted into a highly political family with strong contacts(american ambassador to england) and builds up an army to eventually destroy the world, ala hitler.

it is a movie, so dont take it literally.

p.s. the antichrist isnt anti-christianity, but intent on destroying the world.

  9. Mohammad Rafi sang 'Jis Ke Sir Oopar' for Sunil Datt in Punjabi movie 'Man Jeete Jag Jeet'. This movie is a great work.

He sang 'Mitar Pyaare Noo' in all time super hit movie 'Nanak Naam Jahaaz Hai'.

yep ur right. man jeete jag jeet, was filmed in jallandhar(my family's home town) and my uncle made a brief cameo in the scene where the dakus give themselves up to the authorities(incidently exactly when this song is playing)

  10. Do we believe in kali yuga the same way hindus believe it (started when krishna was born and will last 430,000 years), i know that we do not base it on the stars in the sky etc. Are we in kali yuga? According to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, we are in kali yuga. for example:

Those who act like tyrants are accepted and approved - recognize that this is the sign of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||1||Pause||

-president bush can be interpreted as a tyrant (injust war in iraq etc), and is obviously accepted and looked up to in western civilisation.

If someone practices Truth, he is frustrated; prosperity does not come to the home of the sincere. If someone chants the Lord’s Name, he is scorned. These are the signs of Kali Yuga. ||3|

    - The birth and disease of atheism, bible-bashing, koran-bashing etc are spreading uncontrrollably like wildfire. Anyone who believes in god is seen as a fundamentalist etc, even in our kaum.

The trouble-maker is called a leader, and the liar is seated with honor. O Nanak, the Gurmukhs know that this is justice in the Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||1||

-Again president bush in the west, and islamic extremists in the east. both are equally wrong and fighting for an injust cause, and people like bin laden, abu hamza, al-zaqarwi(sp?) are seen as leaders.

The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the knife, and the kings are butchers; righteousness has sprouted wings and flown away. In this dark night of falsehood, the moon of Truth is not visible anywhere. I have searched in vain, and I am so confused; in this darkness, I cannot find the path. In egotism, they cry out in pain. Says Nanak, how will they be saved? ||1||

-The world is becoming diseased with evil, its on the rise, and i cant see it stopping. this era must be the darkest the world has ever seen. Blatent disregard for life, waging of war in the name of god were innocent people are losing their lives and are afraid. how will we be saved?

  11. i think when it comes to kaam , it means lusting over other women other than your life partner ( i.e. your wife) is wrong

When you mention can't enjoy "sequal material" you don't want to do this , becuase if you are enjoying this kind of " material" then your mind is constantly thinking about these desires . When confronted by the opposite or even the same gender , the images that you enjoyed whilst viewing the "material" are being visualised in your mind and in some extreme cases thats when abuse occurs

You should only have eyes for your partner ( i.e. wife , husband)

what if ur not married and trying to find a partner.

  12. Bruce Lung you certainly are like your name a Lung. mind the pun. lol.

sikh_apprentice it is best to read Gurbani in its original form by learning Gurmuhki.

I don't know how to read Panjabi or Gurmukhi, I still read the english translation of Gurbani.

You are right, there is no sacred language as Waheguru belongs to all.

Some people say you loose translation when its in english, I don't entirely agree with that, as it depends how much devotion you put in.

As GOD is above mere a language.

But its good to learn Gurmukhi. I have started to learn how to read and write and its going good.

i know gurmukhi, but i have to cross refernce to understand what it means, and as im nott very good at reaing it, i sometimes make mistakes (chooti bani) which is a paap. so i think ill stick with english for now.
