  1. http://www.punjabnewsline.com/content/punjab-farmers-demand-special-trains-bihar-and-bring-labourers-paddy-plantation/21116 RAJPURA(Patiala): Facing an acute shortage of migrant labourers for paddy plantation, the peasants of Punjab Thursday demanded to run special rains from Bihar to enable labourers reach Punjab. The paddy season in Punjab has started today. However the paddy plantation is expected to be delayed due to shortage of farm hands. Thousands of labourers reach Punjab every year for paddy plantation to make fast buck. The decline in migrant labourers has been noticed in recent years particularly after center government started NREGA scheme for rural areas. Farmers from Patiala and Sangrur districts, the main paddy growing areas, who gathered at Rajpura railway station to carry migrant labourers with them for the paddy transplantation said that labourers who want to come to Punjab were not getting space in trains. The trains were heavily booked due to summer vacations as many tourists have been coming to Vaishno Devi or Golden temple for pilgrimage, said farmers. Paddy farmers queued up outside the Rajpura railway station with the aim of hiring migrant labourers. Some had even brought liquor to woo the workers. Charanjit Singh and Baljit Singh of village Ghamada district Sangrur came here for migrant labourers said that since state government has fixed the time to start paddy transplantation from June 10 and labourers were not available to them as they cannot rotate by two three farmers. Earlier we have enough time for trans-plantation. Balbir Singh of village Phuman-Wal District Sangrur said “We have been offering many facilities to them (migrant labourers) to accompany with them to their fields”. Union Government should come forwarded to start special trains fro the migrant labourers. "We have no other options other than wheat and paddy as marketing facilty was not available for any other crop”, said Gurdeep Singh and Nahar Singh of Siduwal village of Patiala district. Another reason of labour shortage is the launching of development projects by Bihar and UP governments and introducing NREGA -job guaranteed scheme by centre government.
  2. Actually very few people have long memory. Those who are unaffected by tragedies use to forget it easily and just engage themself in routine life. Btw I agree with it that if soviet union like situation emerge then sikhs should safeguard their interest but there some questions what will be percentage of sikhs in Punjab in next 20-30-40 years if it falls below 50% then it is going to be really tough for sikhs to ask for separate country or region with autonomous rights.Majority of times while discussing things about partition we use to forget that at that biggest problem of sikhs was our small numbers,no sikh majority districts
  3. He is not slandering community he is clearly glorifying 1984 massacre. Its like saying second world war was good because majority of disputes of europe ended after that
  4. If anybody could have written this type of shit against muslims then possibly he could have been sent to hell.BTW Is their no law in canada which stop press from publishing these type of articles? His article is full of lies.He has written that after 84 everything just finished while the reality is after 84 many hindu's left punjab and many sikhs left delhi and other urban cities and went to Punjab.
  5. Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has not spoken the truth in exonerating his Congress colleagues Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath of alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, according to a lawyer of the carnage victims. 'Amarinder Singh's statement is contrary to facts. I am surprised because I know his views regarding these cases were different when he was the convener of the forum that started legal battle against Tytler,' said H.S. Phoolka, a Delhi High Court lawyer who has spearheaded a long-drawn-out campaign for justice for the victims of the 1984 carnage that followed the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi. Phoolka said the forum that was formed in 1985 had given 'me instructions to vehemently pursue the case against Jagdish Tytler'. 'This was during the period when you were the convener,' Phoolka said in a letter to Amarinder Singh, who in an interview to a national daily Sunday said Tytler and Kamal Nath were not involved in 1984 anti-Sikh riots. But the victims' lawyer insists that the former chief minister was not speaking with a clear conscience. 'You have mentioned that Nov 2 (1984), you visited Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib and the people named other Congress leaders and not Jagdish Tytler. (But) riots were still going on in that area on Nov 2. There was no relief camp at the gurdwara. The people, who were held up inside the gurdwara were worried about their own lives,' he said in the letter. Denying that Kamal Nath's name had figured in the riot cases suddenly, as Singh said in his interview, Phoolka said: 'Let me remind you that Kamal Nath's name figured in the Indian Express Nov 2, 1984, and in the Statesman Nov 3, 1984.' 'The employees of the gurdwara have named Kamal Nath. The police records also show the presence of Kamal Nath at the gurdwara Nov 1, 1984,' the lawyer said in the letter, asking Amarinder to immediately withdraw his statement. 'This statement coming from a Sikh leader of your stature, would seriously hamper the campaign for justice,' he said.
  6. Please check the percentage of population of Hindus in Bangladesh in 1951 and what it is now then say that muslim population is not hostile towards non muslims. Though compared to other muslim countries bangladesh is fairly secular
  7. How much sikhs helped 1984 riots victim is an open truth.Despite one of the successful financial community of Delhi ,hardly anything was done for the victims so forget about helping victims which are living in pakistan
  8. I used to think that for sikhs canada is onlky country where they are influential but now it looks to me that in canada their position is also quite weak.No action is taken against this man or the newspaper who have published the article
  9. One of the big question is Why canadian media allowed that article to be published? He clearly justified and glorified 1984 riots.IS This canadian media?
  10. http://www.dnaindia.com/world/report_57-pakistani-hindus-convert-to-islam-under-pressure_1388695 ISLAMABAD: Over 50 Pakistani Hindus have converted to Islam in the Sialkot district of Punjab within a week (between May 14 and May 19) under pressure from their Muslim employers in a bid to retain their jobs and survive in the Muslim-dominated society. Times Square bomb plot suspect got training in Pakistan As many as 35 Hindus converted to Islam on May 14, another 14 on May 17 and eight on May 19, 2010. All the 57 Hindus who have converted belong to the Pasroor town of Sialkot. According to some Pakistani electronic media reports, Mangut Ram, a close relative of some of the new converts, who lives in Sialkot, said that these Hindus had to embrace Islam because they were under pressure from their Muslim employers. He said four Hindu brothers along with their families lived in the village of Nikki Pindi. Mangut Ram said that Hans Raj, Kans Raj, Meena/Kartar and Sardari Lal along with his nephews and sons worked at an eatery in Karachi. According to Mangut Ram, his co workers often used to speak against Hindus in Karachi where his family worked. “The owner of the shop where I worked said that after a few months of his employing me the sales dropped drastically because people avoided purchasing and eating edibles prepared by Hindus. Many people opposed the large presence of Hindu employees at his shop and my boss felt pressured to change the situation,” he added. Ram said Sardari Lal and his brother Meena/Kartar had worked at the sweets shops for several years and made a decent living that allowed them to support their families. He said other Muslims employees of the nearby shops discriminated against them and persecuted them. The shop owner was forced to think about their future at his establishment. “That was when the two brothers and their families decided to embrace Islam in order to keep their jobs and be secure,” he added. Ram confirmed that 13 family members of Sardari Lal, 12 members of Meena/ Kartar, their nephew Kans Raj’s son Boota Ram along with three adults and several children of these families embraced Islam on May 14, 2010. He said that Sardari Lal’s older brothers Hans Raj and Kans Raj remained Hindus. Hans Raj too has said that he might consider converting to save his job. He said that life was ‘just easier if one was Muslim’ and he wouldn’t be discriminated against. Ram said that 14 Hindus of the Tapiala village had embraced Islam on May 17 because they were extremely poor and could not get jobs because no one would employ the large Hindu family. He said that another relative of his, Parkash, who lived in the village of Seowal, along with his eight family members had embraced Islam in order to save their lands. “After embracing Islam, Parkash Ram told me that Muslim neighbours had been mistreating him and had forced him to convert,” Mangut Ram said.
  11. Here are my question to canadian sangat? Who is this ron banarjee? What is nationalpost.com? Is it a newspaper if so then why it has this type of artice is allowed to be published. Are their no laws in Canada to prevent writing such article. And BTW If this Ron banarjee is real bengali Hindu Then he should be reminded that how naxalite movement started in bengal and spreaded to many parts of India If He feels that massacre of innocent is good way to deal with this type of movement then Indian government has the option of massacring bengali's to teach naxals a lesson
  12. Basically this guy is trying to say that 1984 riots should be celebrated .I hope our soormay from canada will not hesistate to take any kind of action against this guy
  13. http://www.nationalpost.com/scripts/Liberal+values+Sikh+terrorism/3110007/story.html Before the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in India, Sikh terrorists carried out indiscriminate attacks designed to cause extensive civilian casualties, including derailing trains and setting off bombs in markets and restaurants. Moderate Sikh political leaders were assassinated for opposing the militants, while several others were killed as a result of militant group rivalries. Threats were also made to the minority Hindu population so as to drive them out of Punjab. In fact, a large population of Hindus left Punjab permanently in 1980s. Democratic India's defeat of the Khalistan terror movement is one of the great success stories of our time, and key to this victory were the actions of 1984. Far from being a "genocide" against Sikhs, as Liberal MP Andrew Kania wants to call it, the events of 1984 should be celebrated as a decisive blow against terrorism. Ron Banerjee, director, Canadian Hindu Advocacy, Toronto.
  14. Anyone who has little knowledge of haryana knows that words like "jaat gujjar kaa ilaaka hai kaat ke phenk denge are common" .Even In 1984 riots the the three communitties that were involved in killing of sikhs were jaats, Gujjars and chamars .These three communities have worst reputation
  15. In haryana dalits are regularly attacked and killed yet they hardly retaliate or threaten to leave hinduism On the other hand in Punjab Dalits and jat sikhs regularly clash and dalits always threaten to leave sikhsim and some even create their new religion
  16. The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the Haryana government for the brutal killing of two Dalits and destruction of 150 houses in Mirchpur, Hissar, on April 21 allegedly by upper caste people and warned it would "take a very serious view" if such incidents recurred. A vacation bench of Justices G S Singhvi and C K Prasad pulled up the state government for its failure to prevent the incident, reportedly a fallout of a dog belonging to people of the (Valmiki) Dalit community barking at some upper caste Jat boys. "Admittedly it started after a dog belonging to the Valmiki community barked at upper caste boys. Is it a ground for murdering people? Even dogs will not be killed for such purposes, otherwise, there will be no dogs left," the bench remarked. The apex court passed the observation while rejecting the submission of senior counsel H S Hooda, who contented that the incident occurred after a wordy duel between youths belonging to the two communities on a trivial issue. The apex court recorded an undertaking from the Haryana Government that it would rebuild some of the houses damaged in the arson and provide employment to at least one member of each affected family under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act or other government-sponsored schemes by the next hearing. "Unfortunately in Haryana such incidents are repeatedly occurring without sensitivity. We hope there will be no further incidents. If it occurs and this court finds the state lacking, we will take a very serious view," the bench warned. The apex court expressed displeasure at the manner in which the state government failed to anticipate the situation and prevent the incident. "What did the SSP, the district commissioner and other senior officers do to prevent the possible occurrence? We want the state government to conduct a thorough probe and fix responsibility on superior officers, suspension of SHO or thesildar hardly makes a difference," the bench observed. The apex court said the state had a duty to protect the lives of citizens. "If we have a rule of law nobody can violate it howsoever, big they may be. It is the first duty of the state to protect its citizens and residents," the bench said. The apex court directed the district commissioner, Hissar, to visit the Valmiki Temple in the capital where the victims are presently taking shelter to assess the damage, examine the cause and file a report to it within four weeks. It further asked the advocate general of Haryana to appoint a two-member committee of advocates which will visit the affected village as also the Valmiki temple to ascertain the cause and extent of damage to the properties of the victims. The committee would also submit its report to the court in four weeks.
  17. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20040823/punjab1.htm The deputation will also impress upon the Prime Minister to release Rs 10,000 crore for the permanent solution of floods in Punjab. A demand to this effect had already been submitted to the 12th Finance Commission by SAD (Longowal) when it visited Punjab about a month ago. Punjab needs this amount for constructing check-dams in the state, taming of Ghaggar, and to dig the ponds in villages.
  18. I am wondering why Punjab or even haryana is not doing this? do these states want to become desert in near future
  19. In 1999, the state government began an initiative that has fuelled a lot of this change: It began to build check dams on rivers flowing through Gujarat. “A check dam is a small barrier built across the direction of water flow on shallow rivers and streams to harvest water,” explains Raval. These structures capture excess water during the monsoon in a small catchment area behind them and force the impounded water to seep into the ground, he says. The initiative that began about 10 years ago gained currency in the Modi administration, when about 35,000 check dams were constructed in Saurashtra and about 100,000 in the rest of the state. In addition, about 130,000 farm ponds were created and a huge sandbag initiative was undertaken to stop soil erosion and salination. As a result of the multi-pronged strategy, groundwater levels began to rise quickly, says Rajubhai Ashoter, a farmer near Amreli. “Earlier we used to get water at 400, sometimes 500ft underground. Now, we get it at 80-90ft.” A survey of the region by the Geological Survey of India has found that the average water table has risen by about 4m in Saurashtra, says Raval. “And as a result, agricultural production has undergone a huge transformation.” Farmers say they are now able to grow three crops in a year. “Earlier we used to be happy if we could get a winter crop after the monsoon produce. Now, I grow something or the other in the summer as well. We used to have drought for seven years out of 10. Now, see this,” says Ashoter, looking at his field where he has planted a winter crop of Bt (or genetically modified) cotton and wheat. “The average area under cultivation has gone up by about 10,00,000ha on an average,” says Raval. “The agricultural sales policy has been streamlined as well, so of course the farmers are prospering now.”
  20. This is story for those who believe that in India you can play for country if you bribe or have influential contacts --------------------------------------------------- http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report_i-ll-give-my-100-per-cent-umesh-yadav_1387370 Mumbai: Three years ago, Umesh Yadav tried to get into the Nagpur police force, but failed to make the cut as he wasn’t a graduate. Three weeks ago, he made it to the Indian squad for the World T20 as a replacement for the injured Praveen Kumar, but failed to make it to the Caribbean because his visa didn’t come through on time. On Tuesday, he will take off with a new-look Indian team that heads to Zimbabwe for a tri-series also involving Sri Lanka — this time with his travelling papers in place. “I was obviously disappointed at not making it to the West Indies, but this time, everything was in place well in advance,” Yadav told DNA. The 22-year-old fast bowler insisted that he wasn’t nervous ahead of his first international assignment. “I’ve not set myself any targets other than to give a 100 per cent whenever I get an opportunity.” His approach is understandable when you take into account the roller-coaster that the last three years have been. Until two years ago, Yadav had never even played with a leather ball. The son of a coal-mine worker, Yadav’s proficiency lay in sending down screaming toe-crushers in tennis-ball tournaments for prize money ranging from Rs 11,000 to a lakh. In many ways, his story seems scripted in neighbouring Pakistan, where legends rising from flood-lit, tape-ball tournaments aren’t exactly uncommon. Convinced his son was wasting his life on Nagpur’s sun-beaten dustbowls, his father asked him to apply for a job on the police force. “I cleared the written and physical tests,” the tall, broad-shouldered quick said, “but the fact that I wasn’t a graduate cost me that job.” Finally, two years ago, a friend of his who played professionally asked him to turn out for his club — the Vidarbha Gymkhana — in a local tournament. To label the events since then ‘fast-tracking’ would be an injustice to the term ‘under-statement’. In his first Ranji season, for the unfashionable Plate Division side Vidarbha, he picked up 20 wickets in four games. In his first Duleep Trophy game, he picked up a five-wicket haul, including those of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. And a stint this season in the Indian Premier League —where he played seven matches and picked up six wickets for the Delhi Daredevils — brought him into national reckoning. More than a few lessons have been learnt on the way, but Yadav’s adamant that he will complete his graduation. This despite the fact the ability to hit the 140kph-mark has catapulted him into a world where the only numbers that matter are those in the wickets column.
  21. You are right Singhs should learn but their are some problems in it. A Singh chasing a girl is going to be seen as some person who is not following his code of conduct properly even though his intention is pure It is a well known fact that many sikh girls don't like facial hairs so may be they will not see them as their prince charming.Mona sikhs are not going to find this problem With our religion in minority it is not necessary that sikh man and woman could come to contact in University or workplace You are absolutely spot on here.In Punjab cutting hair became normative behavior as a result majority of youths cut their hair on the other hand in urban cities it is not normative behaviour for sikh to discard turban that's why we don't see majority of boys discarding turban
  22. May be my comment is stupid but sometime there is harsh truth in stupid comments and it takes lots of guts to write these type of comments. From Past5 years I am reading discussions on different sikh forums on interfaith marriages and in almost all discussions sikh women use to most supportive of these marriages.anyway you may say that these are just forums Now coming to real life ,in Urban India the epidemic of sikh girls with non sikhs started in 90s when sikh girls started doing jobs .Were these sikh girls unaware of sikhism? Were their fathers or brothers were abusive?.The answer is that in majority of cases that was not the reason. The impact of media, feminism , bollywood was too much on them. Btw I am not saying that all sikh girls are going to marry non sikhs. What I am saying is that god has given some basic nature to men and women .Where men are more inclined towards in preserving their religion or culture women on the other hand can get easily carried away when they see their prince charming. So may even after doing all you have said we may not get desired result because we cannot change what is natural.
  23. Sixty-eight passengers of a Maharashtra-bound express train were killed early Friday and 200 injured in a Maoist attack which led to derailment of 13 coaches that were hit by a goods train coming from the opposite direction. "The PCPA have left two posters near the rail tracks clearly owning responsibility for the derailment of the Kurla-bound Gyaneswari Express," IGP (Law and Order) S Karpurakayastha said in Kolkata. The posters read, "We earlier demanded withdrawal of the joint security forces from Jangalmahal (West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia) and end of CPI(M) atrocities, but those demands were not met." Another poster demanded immediate withdrawal of the joint forces from the area. Police have seized both posters. By mid afternoon 68 bodies were recovered. "The toll could go up," West Bengal Home Secretary Samar Ghosh said. The sleeping passengers were killed when a goods train rammed into four bogies of the Gyaneshwari Express that jumped rails at 1:30 am on Friday morning allegedly after fish plates were removed and portions of tracks cut out deep inside Maoist-dominated West Midnapore district of West Bengal. "We had issued a red alert," railway board member Vivek Sahai told reporters in New Delhi. Sahai said the deaths were mainly caused by the goods train hitting the three derailed coachs of the Howrah-Kurla Gyaneshwari Super Deluxe Express. "There have been earlier cases of sabotage but never of this scale," the railway board member said. Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee who reached the spot said a high level inquiry has been ordered. "We condemn the incident. According to the information from Railways and administration, a bomb blast occurred triggering the incident. I shall write to the Union Home Minister to conduct an enquiry," said Railway minister Mamata Banerjee at the accident site. The blast occurred when the train was running between Khemasoli and Sardiya stations, about 135 km from Kolkata, South Eastern Railway officials said. 13 bogies including the engine of the Gyaneshwari Express that had left Howrah and was heading for Kurla jumped the rails. A goods train that was coming from the opposite direction crashed on to four of the derailed bogies. As a result, the goods train was itself derailed. Four bogies (S4, S5, S6, S7) were smashed as relief workers desperately tried to cut through the mangled structures and bring out dead bodies. Bodies were dangling from the wreckage as the relief workers struggled with gas cutters to reach for any possible survivors. The train was full of sleeping passengers, about 70 in each bogie, and no one was sure about the number of casualties. Rail authorities initially claimed that an explosion in the rail tracks had triggered the incident. But police officials, after preliminary survey, indicated more than a foot of tracks were cut out and fish plates were removed. "Law and order is a state subject and these are highly sensitive areas. Rajdhani Express was detained in this area last year. The Maoists are observing Kala Divash (Black Day) between May 28 and May 31 here," said the railway minister. She claimed that a pilot engine passed through this route last night but didn't specify how long before the incident the patrolling took place. This is a region where Maoists tried to disrupt trains on at least three occasions between October 27, 2009 and May 20, 2010. The combined forces arrived after the accident. Relief workers were rushed before dawn. Indian Air Force helicopters were pressed into service at the accident spot to airlift some of the injured to the hospitals. The injured were taken to a hospital in Kharagpur. The Railway minister announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of each of the dead and Rs 1 lakh for the injured.
  24. http://thelangarhall.com/musings/just-a-nice-story/#comments One should read comments of sikh girls their.Almost all of them are supportive of this marriage. Is it any wonder that muslims target sikh girls so easily.I hate to say this but it looks like sikh girls are lost cause Its better for sikhism if they concentrate on boys.Men and women are different and they do think differently
  25. Mandira bedi is not targeted because she is a woman. It is because she painted big tattoo on her back and tried to exploit sikh symbol.Today mandira is painting ik onkaar tomorrow other models could also exploit sikh symbols then what? And BTW do I need to remind that how many time Harbhajan singh is targeted by Akal takhat .When Harbhajan did Ravan dance with Mona singh who also is a sikh Akal takhat forced Harbhajan to apologise while nothing was said to Mona singh.did anyone at that time call it sexism? It looks to me that in sikhism only men are going to be criticised When someone say anything about women then immdiately he is called sexist
