British universities sometimes seen as breeding grounds for radical Islam

The failed plane bombing in Detroit

A Nigerian man, claiming to be linked to al-Qaeda, allegedly tried to set off an incendiary device aboard a trans-Atlantic airplane on Christmas Day as it descended toward Detroit's airport. The White House called it an attempted act of terrorism.

LONDON -- The case of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian man accused in the attempted bombing of a U.S. airliner, has reinvigorated a debate about whether British universities are being used as breeding grounds for radical Islam.

For three years, Abdulmutallab made the short journey from his apartment in central London to an 11-story brown brick building at University College London (UCL), where he was enrolled as a mechanical engineering student.

Before him, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who was convicted in connection with the 2002 murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, attended the London School of Economics. British citizens Asif Mohammed Hanif and Omar Khan Sharif were enrolled at King's College London before launching a suicide attack in Tel Aviv in 2003.

While those cases -- and others -- hardly suggest that extremists have infiltrated Britain's campuses, experts say there is evidence that Muslims who adopt radical ideologies frequently do so during their formative years in college.

Abdulmutallab, now 23, was president of UCL's Islamic society. And according to Anthony Glees, a professor of security and intelligence studies at the University of Buckingham, he is the fourth president of a university Islamic society to be linked to terrorism-related offenses in recent years. One of the former presidents, Waheed Zaman, is being retried for his alleged connection with a plot to bomb transatlantic airliners in 2006.

Like many university organizations, Islamic student societies fill an important social role for students, said Usama Hasan, a former Islamic society president at three British universities and now a university lecturer. But he said that they can also foment fundamentalist ideas and can be aided by guest speakers who "are very narrow-minded and extreme."

Hasan said that Islamic societies have scratched off many of the most radical Islamic preachers from their speaking rosters. The voice of Anwar al-Aulaqi, for example, the Yemen-based cleric who has come under scrutiny in the Christmas Day plot, is banned from Britain. Even so, he can still be heard frequently on some British campuses via video link during conferences and other events.

"It's worrying," Hasan said. "He is charismatic, and some students listen to him."

Abdulmutallab graduated with an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and business finance in June 2008. Less than a year later, he sought a second visa to study in Britain -- a course in "life coaching," according to British media reports -- but was turned down for applying to a nonexistent institution.

During his time at UCL, he organized a conference called "War on Terror Week" at the university. One event at the conference was billed as "a lecture on the Islamic position with respect to jihad and other issues."

It remains unclear when Abdulmutallab underwent an ideological transformation. He was far from being described as a firebrand radical, and his former teachers, classmates and acquaintances in London have expressed surprise about the allegations against him.

Malcolm Grant, the UCL provost, said in an interview that the school was "completely shocked" by the news. He said that he has spoken to Abdulmutallab's tutors, who "found it impossible to tell the difference between him and any other student." Abdulmutallab, in fact, was "well-mannered, quietly spoken, polite."

The Federation of Student Islamic Societies, an umbrella organization that represents 90,000 students in Islamic societies across Britain, said there was "nothing in his behavior during this time that would indicate that he would commit these alleged acts."

  2. This is one of those frequently quoted pieces which no one has ever managed to verify or locate in manuscript form.

I'm wondering why it isn't in Grewal and Habib's Persian Sources of Sikh History?

I know that's why i am more curious to know the source O/W if we will quote this on Non sikh forum then they will clearly call it a sikh propaganda with no base

  3. Obviously this does not reflect any spiritual teaching which could be categorized as "Hindu." It is clearly a political and not a religious issue. Do you think Badal represents Sikhi? Why do you ignorantly assert that goondas represent Hindu religion? This incident reflects incredible corruption of the ruling Gandhi family and their autocratic power over Congress Party and their ability to intimidate the nation. PM of Congress Party today is Sikh. Is that also example of "Hindu" chauvanism? My point is politics can in no way define religion. Politics is the ultimate corrupter of religion! 1984 riots were instigated due to the influence of Rajiv Gandhi who was not a Hindu, but son of a Parsi Muslim. His children were raised as Roman Catholics and married Christians. Please tell me where is the "Hindu chauvanism? It was not act of "Hindu" chauvanism, but revenge for the assassination of his mother

    Harjas kaur

I think you don't understand politics.Politicians only attack a community when they know that majority is against them.take example of Raj thackerey he is attacking Bihari's and in return he is getting votes of mArathis,in the same way Delhi politicians got vote

after 84 riots.Tell me Why were tamilians not attcaked in 91 when Rajiv was killed. One community paid price for Indira's death by 5000 innocent people other community did not get 1 person killed. Also it is widely known that sentiments of Hindu community was

like sikh deserved what they got.Very very few leaders of that time came to their help.

A man in a pagri who gets drunk, kills his neighbor, and rapes his neighbors wife, do you call him a "Sikh?" Do you call as "crimes committed by a Sikh?" Do you accuse as "example of Sikhs behavior?" Do you want people to act in kind by rudely insulting words of Guru Sahib to prove a point against him because he happened to be Sikh? Is that the lesson? Are you showing that in future people should defame bani of Guru Maharaaj because some "Sikh" people act like criminals? No wonder you're having problems with people on that other forum. LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

Every day thousands of crimes are committed and I don't blame criminals religion unless the crime is motivated by religious hatred

  4. Harjas kaur

No amount of Your big posts on Hindu sikh brotherhood could change the fact that largest minority community

killed after partition In India in Riots are sikhs in 1984.

Let me show you something from non sikh unbiased account what there analsys was for the reason of 1984 riots

    http://www.massviolence.org/The-1984-Anti-Sikhs-pogroms-in-New-Dehli?artpage=6#outil_sommaire_5

Citizens for Democracy even went further by stating that this pogrom was primarily meant «to arouse passion within the majority community – Hindu chauvinism – in order to consolidate Hindu votes in the election held on December 27, 1984, which was indeed massively won by the Congress (I) (Rao & al., 1985: 1).

  5. I always think about this. Why do Muslims have such high birth rate than all the other peoples in the world? What could be the reason for this?

    Mithar ji

If you have some time then please read the following link you will get lot of information

    http://www.bharatvani.org/books/imwat/ch5.htm

the only thing I want to quote from above link is this

Kingsley Davis rightly remarks that “in six decades (1881-1941)… at no census have the Muslims failed to improve their percentage and the Hindus failed to lose…” It is due not only to the “proportion of Muslim women married, but those who are married also have a higher fertility.”48 Today every seventh man in the world is a Muslim,49 and in this great rise of Muslim population their high fertility should have contributed its share.

    ----------------------------------------------------

  6. It shows the number of marriages between couples of different religions between 1981 and 2001. For Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims in 1981 due to the communities being small the interreligious marriage rate was more than in 2001. But it the percentage rate which is important. Muslims are more likely of the the three communities to marry out. In 1981 13% of Muslim couples were mixed whereas 11% of Hindus and only 4% of Sikhs were in an interreligious marriage. This decreased to 9% of Muslims, 9% of Hindus and 3% of Sikhs in 2001. For women it was 6% for Muslims, 8% for Hindus and 3% for Sikhs. Sikhs were the least likely to marry out of their coummunity with 96.9% married to a fellow Sikh, for Hindus it was 91.2% and for Muslims it was 91.4%.

Its good that in Canada sikhs particulary women are least marrying outside Religion.but with Canadian census you cannot say that it is true for the entire sikh community.I think the situation is worse in Urban Indian cities

  7. Maybe so, but you must bear in mind that the Muslim birth rate thing is used by white racial groups like the BNP/EDL to stir people up. And a few large Muslim families isn't really a major thing when you consider that white people have totally dominated the land of the native Red Indian without any regard for them.

Also, "Muslim" effectively means brown people. You won't hear about a white guy with a beard & skullcap or a white woman in hijab being seriously attacked. It's brown people and Sikhs who get it worst.

Muslim population in Indian subcontinent in 1881 was 19.93% something Today it is 34% .Can we say it is white man's propaganda?

Higher Birth rate of Muslims is reality and That's why it is used by Their opponents Group Like BNP in UK and RSS in India. Also if you read Articles of some social scientists then they clearly say that White people's Birth rate is seriously low,so it is obvious that they get worried about it.

And if some misguided people are using Muslims For entire brown people then they are fools.I don't know

from where the question white racism comes here.It is bad and rejected by majority of white's but now it is the turn of muslims to show their liberal attituide inn all countries.but instead of that they are moving more and more towards shariat

  8. http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed/punjab/Fake-weddings-made-to-order-in-Punjab/Article1-487837.aspx

The yearning to settle abroad has turned illegal travel into a lucrative business in Punjab.

Undaunted by reports of frauds, tales of treacherous desertion between borders, starvation, near-fatal encounters and even prison terms, billboards and advertisements in vernacular dailies offering quick visas remain alluring for many.

The arrangement for contract marriages is simple: a local English-speaking woman with the required scores in the International English Language Testing System enters a fake wedding alliance. The foreign-based man pays for her visa process. Once abroad, they go their separate ways.

For marriage palace owners, these alliances are money-spinners. They arrange the entire wedding scene — the party, guests, friends and relatives who pose for photographs to go with the visa. “Business is booming,” said Mohinder Singh, the owner of one such venue here.

At the tehsil offices, fake marriage registration certificates are sold for anything between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000, an agent told HT.

When this correspondent visited offices of about a dozen immigration consultants in Moga, posing as a student aspiring to study abroad, he was told no original documents would be required. For a UK visa, all the paperwork would be arranged for Rs 500,000 to Rs 700,000. The sum would cover tuition fees for the first semester, the consultants claimed.

A student visa requires a statement of account showing up to Rs 20 lakh (Rs 2 million) in cash, depending on the course and the country.

The financers are all too happy to lend — at high rates of interest, of course.

Aware of such frauds, foreign consulates have devised means to verify facts.

Immigration consultant Arun Kumar said, “Most visa refusal cases cite false evidence of funds or suspicious wedding alliances.”

But in Punjab, the gullible are still willing to part with land and home for a chance at a life on foreign shores.

  9. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/indians-abroad/Sikh-youth-attacked-in-Texas/articleshow/5355014.cms

WASHINGTON: A Sikh graduate student, working as a part-time pizza delivery person, was thrown into a swimming

    pool and brutally assaulted in

West Texas, according to the Sikh Coalition, a community advocacy group.

When the young man, whose identity has been withheld for his protection, brought pizzas for delivery into a home, four men took the pizzas and started eating without paying, while hurling racial epithets and threatening him.

"I'm going to **** you up in Iraq, I'm going to **** you up in Afghanistan, I'm going to **** you up over here," they were quoted as saying by the Coalition in a media release. But it did not say when the incident took place.

The four men then grabbed the Sikh student and threw him into a swimming pool. The four attackers surrounded the pool, kicking him in the head and body. Every time he tried to escape, they would stomp or hit at him.

For 20 minutes, he swam for his life trying to escape. He eventually seized an opportunity to flee and barely made it to his car with two men in pursuit, the community group said.

Though the local police were called shortly after the attack, they failed to respond adequately, the community group alleged. The police classified the incident as a misdemeanor, which means that the attackers may not have to serve any jail time, it said.

The local police also did not file the incident as a hate crime, the group said. "It is clear from the attackers' references to 'bin Laden' and 'Go back to Afghanistan' and the fact that they kicked off his turban that this assault targeted not only him as an individual, but his Sikh identity."

However the Department of Justice (DOJ) is currently investigating the matter as a possible federal hate crime after being contacted when the local police department refused to prosecute the attackers for hate crime, the Sikh Coalition said.

  10. But a significant part of that was rejecting what they saw as Panjabi/Sikh kunjar culture (which was at the time the predominant and most popular of the asian cultures centred around bhangra) for a stricter more conservative Islamcentric way of life

Could you please tell me what are the relations of Muslims with Hindu Gujarati's ,Tamils and other non white communities? May be they do not like punjabi kunjar culture but I think it should mainly blamed on strict islamic norms where they believe that they should not associate with kafirs

  11. The paradox is that as Sikhs get more integrated and financially successful here, they also get softer as a community and become more vulnerable to attacks.

I think sikhs are quite money minded community.Everywhere we see them becoming Rich and with richness its obvious a community become soft

The attitude and actions of the police force will be paramount to what happens. I know in the 70s and 80s the many policemen were openly supportive of the NF (forerunners to BNP) and although we do have a better ethnic representation in the force today, it is still pretty much a racist organisation, albeit on a less open scale than previously

Police always have soft corner for their community. The only exception is Punjab police who do not hesistate to fire at their own sikh brothers.

What has changed today is that brown people are now more fragmented/disunited than before and this is along religious lines. I would say this process started in the lates 80s/early 90s. So there is no united Asian Front as before

And who is responsible for that? After 1984 sikhs had soft corner for muslims but in UK Muslims have shown their true colors.

Today we have so called Sikhs kissing the arses of the very people who would murder and attack Sikhs (and others) in the past. Some of these fools even want to join them.

May be history repeating itself 1857 sikhs joined Britishers against revolt predominantly a muslim one.

and that was just after 9 years they lost to britishers everything

  12. http://www.zeenews.com/news588304.html

    Zeenews Bureau

Islamabad: In a breaking news development, the Pakistan Army has reportedly grabbed the land here meant for the construction of Sikh Gurudwaras.

The minority community here is distraught as the Army sold off 150 acres of land that belongs to the Sikhs of Lahore, as per a latest media report.

Reports also state that the land, which was allegedly sold cheaply to Pak defence authorities, is actually worth millions of rupees. The Sikh community is planning to retaliate by appealing in a court of law to step in and prevent the ‘illegal’ land grab.

However, the chairman of Pakistan’s Evacuee Trust, Asif Hashmi, while confirming the sale, decried reports stating that the land belongs to any individual or the Gurudwara Deh in Lahore.

The sale violates Pakistan’s law on selling religious land. Meanwhile, the SGPC in India is said to have contacted President Asif Ali Zardari asking for his direct intervention in the case.

  13. So basically you are saying two possibilities exist. Most of us (who haven't buried their heads in the sand), have a good idea of how the more kuttarh musalmaan would like to deal with us if they ever were in power. I live in a predominantly sullah area, I don't doubt that some would like to finish what their forefathers tried to do. If there is a dimwitted apni kuri wondering around, consider her fair game. Our history gives us a glimpse of what we can possibly expect if they ever were ever unchecked. But be under no allusion. others such as Jews, Shias etc. would also get it. The snidy label for us these days is 'Guru wallay' btw. The other so called 'liberal' alternative seems to involve a slower death over generations. If you live in London you can see 'Sikhs' in the advance stages of assimilation already. They have absolutely no physical or emotional connection to their language, culture or religion. This is how white man want it.

The strange thing is Sikhs seemed to have a better record of surviving and fighting the direct brutal type assaults (see 1700s), than the more surreptitious type of attack. For me this boils down to us being pretty unsophisticated in terms of grasping and thwarting insidious plans for us. We always seem to end up in the middle of bloodthirsty mobs before we realise there is a serious issue. This doesn't seem to be changing/

I think it is plain stupidity that makes some of you people seem to expect sulley to mold themselves to democracy and liberal values when they have a complete system that they should be following, which has clearly defined its boundaries visa vi the west. You must understand that the kuttarh sees surrender to western values as a betrayal to God. Besides, it is arse licky in the sense of independence, even if you take faith out of it. I have had goray blatantly telling me that they respect those pathaans for their stout resistence whilst at the same time laughing at Singhs for being their trained attack dogs for so long. In terms of masculinity, we are considered less than those who stoutly resist. Jannat said sullay are on a sinking ship, but I don't think we can be so complacent. If we are honest, they are dealing with the white man quite well. They have formed strong safe pockets in whiteys land. They have become a factor to be considered when making military and political decisions, mainly through the suicide bombing.

These people (sullay) aren't going anywhere, and I think they will get stronger and more emboldened soon because the west seems to be losing its war on sullay.....or terrorism...or whatever they are calling it these days. Plus the current economic conditions makes fighting the war even more riskier than it already is. Who knows, these current battles could be the ones that break the white man's back because of the economic downturn?

In the end, we have to learn to live with sullay. Like all aggressive quoms/panths they usually rely on weakness on the part of their perceived enemies to take them on. Anglos are the same. However, informing Sikhs of how they turned themselves into a strong force that deterred targeting from sullay during the 1700s seems like howling at the moon today. But this fear of sullay that is exhibited by the FordCapris of the world will only cause us more grief. Trust me, sulleh sense that shit like a shark does wounded prey. We need brave independent Singhs now. Not cowards or sycophants. Sullay make us up our game. You have to respect that.

A very good post as usual

Muslims at present have the biggest weapon and that is womb bomb.On the other hand white's as commmunity has the lowest Birth rate.so in Future old whites will become more and more dependent on Muslims For taking care of their oldies

As a sikh I have nothing to fear from muslims now.The reason is If I leave UK conflicts sikhs are not at all in any type of conflict with muslims anywhere.Sikhs hardly have anything to loose. The loser will be in Future are Hindu's,Whites and may be Jews.

  14. I can think of the names of several secular Muslims, past and present. Mohammad Rafi, A.R. Rahman, Bismallah Khan, APJ Abdul Kalam, Mishal Husain, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. There are instances of Muslim women marrying non-Muslims

No one is saying that there are no secular muslims. There are very good muslims .But when we discuss these type of statement we have to look at broader community level not at indivisual level. The question here is whether as a community they can mix with others,I think the answer is no.

In India muslims are very poor still there demand is not good schools. They prefer that shariat courts should be allowed.

  15. I think that secularism is possible even with Muslims. But it is not possible if Muslims are the majority. Sirdar Kapur Singh Jee in Sachi Sakhi has written about this more in detail to explain why it is not possible for a multicultural or mulireligious society to exist in equality in a Muslim ruled state.

When secularism is not possible when they are in majority then it is not possible at all.How could one community shout about minority rights when they are in minority but when they reach majority, they say that

they don't beleive in secularism. Also as I said above

birth rate of muslims is quite high so other religions will always feel threatened with them and their communal feelings will arise

  16. 7-Foot Is Nice, Especially Twice

    sim_bhullar_tanveer_bhullar_reach.jpg

    http://www.slamonline.com/online/college-hs/high-school/2009/11/7-foot-is-nice-especially-twice/

Brothers take their show to a tiny Pennsylvania prep school.

    by Stephen Brodzinski

The old saying, ‘Big fish in a small pond,’ couldn’t be more true in this case. Imagine a small, all-boys boarding school in the beautiful mountains of Saltsburg, PA, with an enrollment of about 210 students. The Kiski School is known for being one of the top academic schools in the country, with rich traditions and successful alumni. The athletic programs have been competitive, but the basketball program has never achieved great success. This past summer, former Division I coach Daryn Freedman took over as head basketball coach, and within weeks, things changed. Meet Coach Freedman’s new front court, a pair of 7-foot brothers from Toronto, Canada.

Sim and Tanveer Bhullar are the first tandem of 7-foot brothers to play together, since Brook and Robin Lopez shined at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA. Sim is a sophomore listed at 7-4, while his freshman brother Tanveer is listed at 7-2. Yes, we said freshmen and sophomore!

Both brothers are already highly ranked, with Tanveer being ranked among the top players in the Class of 2013 by some reports. For their enormous size at young ages, they both already possess an uncanny skill level and understanding of how to play the game. Head coach Daryn Freedman thinks the brothers are a special duo: “Their combination of height, strength, great hands and understanding of the game makes their upside unlimited.”

To put this phenomenon into perspective, on the all-time list of millions of high school and college basketball players, you may find a short page of former or current 7-0 athletes. Even in the NBA right now, you may be able to count the number of actual 7-footers on two hands. Every so often you will hear about a high school basketball player reaching the 7-0 horizon, but almost never as a freshman or sophomore. And while the pool of 6-8 guys seems to have deepened over the years, the sprinkling of true big men has seemed to be running dry. Coach Freedman talks about the luxury of not only having one 7-footer, but having two on the same team, “In my nine years as a Division 1 assistant, I never saw a freshman or sophomore in high school that big, with that ability. Now I have both Sim and Tanveer that I can coach and help develop.”

Sim and Tanveer will definitely be developed, being pushed by Kiski Prep’s new staff of former college and pro coaches. While they definitely need to get stronger, lose some weight, and gain some bounce, it is sometimes difficult to remember that they are so young. And having each other to play against on a daily basis, could be one of the greatest advantages for the young duo. While most vertically gifted high school athletes will have to practice against much smaller teammates, Sim and Tanveer will be able to play against another 7-footer every day.

Growing up in Toronto, Sim says the he and his brother were close from a young age: “It is nice to have someone to always talk to and relate to, and we always challenge each other to go harder.” The value in them challenging each other to go harder is seen in every practice. Watching Sim try to dunk on Tanveer, or seeing Tanveer hit a jump hook over Sim, is just flat out fun to watch. Tanveer also understands the importance of having his brother to play against: “Playing with and against Sim helps me develop as a basketball player. I get to practice my offensive skills on a defender who can challenge me and I also get to practice my defense on him.”

As they continue to improve, the brothers will be all over the national recruiting radar. They already garner tons of attention no matter where they go. At tournaments, parents pull out cell phones to take videos of the enormous pair, and people constantly ask for pictures. So it seems almost natural that Sim and Tanveer are tucked away in the hills of western Pennsylvania. Wanting to attend school in the United States, they chose the Kiski School for its great academic history, nurturing environment, and the belief that Coach Freedman and staff could maximize their potential. Though they stick out like a sore thumb walking through the scenic campus, they both feel at home in their new environment, and have already shown early success both on the court and in the classroom.

Hoping to continue this success, both Sim and Tanveer have big aspirations to match their big frames. They hope to play at high major DI schools and someday make it to the NBA. Coach Freedman, who served on the staff of both the New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers, sees this as a real possibility, “Both Sim and Tanveer have shown the ability to dominate when they are at their best. With a lack of quality centers in Division 1 and the NBA these days, as the two continue to improve, there will be a lot of people watching them on a daily basis.”

And many are already watching. The Kiski School has frequent visits from Division I coaches, checking out the potential. Besides Sim and Tanveer, there are roughly five Division I prospects on the roster right now, including 6-9 forward Stefan Jankovic who may be one of the top 10 players in the Class of 2012. For Sim and Tanveer, they will surely have many options down the road. For now, they are focusing on their first test of the season on November 21, against the highly respected Maine Central Institute (MCI) in a prep school tournament at Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut. While they are both still works in progress, the duo will soon be one of the most dominant frontcourts in the entire country. And don’t expect to see anything like them for a long time.

  17. LOL It is just a publicity stunt. They are already planning to open 30-40 outlets so how could they will not allow Indians

    ---------------------------------------------------

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/No-Indians-allowed-Haagan-Dazs-says-wrong-choice-of-words/articleshow/5346805.cms

“No one was turned away because of nationality,” insisted Arindam Haldar, director, Haagen-Dazs. “I was present on all days. If people were refused entry momentarily, it was only due to overcrowding as there was a rush.” Obviously, Haagen-Dazs is here to tap the Indian market, not keep it out, but the words of the teaser campaign left the company vulnerable to the charge of apartheid. And it was compounded by the very poor choice of words by TBWA, the agency that did the teaser campaign.

Upon sustained queries to company officials about the intention of the campaign, it emerged that what Haagen-Dazs really wanted to convey was ‘Now get a taste of abroad right here in India’. But by preferring several long words — that are liable to be misinterpreted — instead of short, clear ones, they ended up generating a lot of heat: something that ice-cream brands, in particular, should steer clear of, if they don’t want their market to melt away, thanks to offended sensibilities. Especially, since it plans to open 30 to 40 outlets in the next few years.

    -----------------------------------------------------

They already got what they wanted Now Hundreds of Indians will visit this place just to show that they access it.A very good publicity stunt but a cheap one

  18. Also In Multicultural society ,if communities want to

maintain healthy relationship then It is a must that all communities main similar birth rate.Again on this point muslim don't agree. There Birth rate is always quite compare to other religions. So anyone can see that political balance start shifting towards them which other communities never like

  19. That makes them clever in my eyes. No wonder they are growing so fast. Hmmmm.....they seem cleverer than us.

They have more faith in sharia and traditional values

We have more faith in western liberal seculer values.

Traditional values were made so a Religion ,or culture

could survive through generations .In Liberal values

a religion or culture could be wiped out in 2-3 generations.Parsis are biggest example of this.Population at start of century 1.2 lac now only 70,000 while the population of other religions grew 4 times their actually declined. The reason is simple assimilation in other faiths mainly Hinduism and Islam

  20. High population density and lack of agricultural land

is India's main problem especially when very large population is dependent on agriculture.May be India's resources are enough for simple living, but it can never match the standard of western countries.

Also democracy has its own problems. For example building infrastructure require time but people want instant things. One of the prime reason for congress's defeat and Badal's victory was free electricity was not provided to farmers by congress.Free electricity badly hurts economy and kill long term projects because of financial impact of it.so people need instant gains and all Governments whether it is central

or state prefer these type of incentive's rather than building long term policies.

  21. I think that is them being quite clever and ensuring their society doesn't get absorbed into another. In anycase, a typical Panjabi father would not usually like his daughter to marry a gora. So I don't get your point? People should be able to form strong communities of their own in the diaspora. The only thing pi55ing people off is that sullay seem to be more successful at doing this than any other group.

The truth is, in Britain, the long term aim is to absorb all the communities within the natives over time. The only people who aren't falling for this in droves are sullay. We could possibly learn important lessons from that?

Its true a punjabi father may not like it but still a lot of sikh Girls are marrying outside religion and their parents do accept it if they are not very hardcore jatts or Strict sikhs. But with muslims we all know how extreme they could go if their Girls marry outside religion. In India it is one of the main reason they don't allow their daughters to educate at higher level. Also in case of muslim their men freely marry non muslim women and raise Muslim kids so there is only one way traffic while in other religions we can say that both men and women marry outside faith. The exceptions are only muslims

What you said about Britain is also true for India and except Muslim and christians we may not see other religions especially sikhs.Punjabified hinduised sikhs who will go to Gurdwara's ,Dera's and mandirs is the future of sikh community in India if we look at broader level.
