  1. Kavi Santokh Singh was merely an orator and compiler of stories. He used the material around him from different Janam sakhis and gurbilas writings and complied them all into one big scripture. And in some cases he travelled around and got stories from local people in villages whose ancestors had met the gurus. Then he wrote those stories down etc. So in essence, he was merely a compiler rather than someone who made up stories about the gurus. The panj sau sakhi is said to have been his main inspiration when it comes

The story of Kharag Singh is a work of "historical-fan-fiction", the same genre as the Assassin's Creed games.

The author imagined what would happen if God fought a battle against the strongest warlord, in order to tell an epic story of an epic battle between the two.

As far as I know, this character does not appear in Bhagwad Puran or Mahabharat.

The Name 'Kharag Singh' is a(n intentionally) modern name, compared to that Era, and should also give it away as a work of "historical-fan-fiction".

    Exactly

  3. Yeah that was from one of the census reports from the late 1800s. But that was killings at birth. Not in order to save them from rape etc.

Some people say that Sati emerged amongst the rajputs as a way for females to avoid being taken as slaves by the Arab forces

According to Niddar's book, Sada Nand in this Charitar seems to be a Sikh of Sri Satguru jee (Tenth Master).

    ਪਰੋ ਸਦਾ ਮੋਰੇ ਰਹੈ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਭੇਵ ਅਧੇਰ ॥੮॥

This line can be translated as "This person (Sada Nand) used to stay at my place (Guru saab's place), but he was not aware of the extra-marital activities of his wife".

    Bhul chuk maaf

Interesting perspective. How are you finding the analysis so far? Is it deep and enlightening or just basic?
