  1. The mutiny of 1857 clinched the British association with the Punjabis. … Inflamed by rumours of East India Company’s stipulation of use of pork and beef fat to grease cartridges, the sepoys of the Bengal Army throughout northern India revolted. Mutinous soldiers seizing Delhi and raising anew the standard of the Mughal empire were joined by other discontented groups throughout the country. Sikh royalty, on the other hand, sent troops to contain the uprisings. To the Sikhs the British now owed allegiance, for they stemmed the tide of insurrection and had thus allowed the imperial army to tighten its hold over mutinous natives.2

Needless to say, the events of 1857 severely intensified the perceived chasm of difference between the Indian and the Briton. … The Sikhs, through their propitious display of loyalty moved into a position of privilege and honour. … The Sikhs, characterised as the pinnacle of the martial races, reaped the benefits of their propitious display of loyalty to the British for years to come. Punjab chiefs who had stood by the Bitish during the uprising were given monetary and territorial rewards, and Indian honorary titles were meted out to loyal princes and officials (Latif 1994: 582-3).3

Leading religious families were also patronised, as were mahants, the custodians of Gurdwaras and shrines. The Britsh patronage of Sikh religious elite remained advantageous to the political designs of both for many years to come. For example, Baba Khem Singh Bedi supported the British during the mutiny by raising troops to stem the tide of insurrection. He continued to support the British administration in many and varied forms. … Further, in return for British patronage, the mahants of principal religious shrines issued hukamnamas [edicts] in support of the Raj in times of political crisis.4

Jakobsh has echoed what the Hindu “propaganda machine” has been saying about the role of Sikhs in the 1857 mutiny, since the foundation of Arya Samaj in Punjab in the 1870s. Let me first cite the views of well-known Hindu historians about this so-called “first war of Independence” before discussing Jakobsh’s absurd statements point by point.

  2. I know Hindu Jihadi will not accept but it doesn't we will stop showing him truth .

Below Article is by Baldev Singh

According to Sir J. N. Sarkar, “The Sepoy Mutiny was not a fight for freedom; it was in fact, King Cobra Superstition’s last bite before his head was smashed.” J. P. Kriplani says, “It was nothing but an attempt by the old order to get back their kingdoms and principalities.” And R. C. Majumdar was right in saying, “It was neither ‘first’, nor ‘national’ nor ‘a war of independence’.”

David Harowitz in his book, “The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America” addresses his mounting concerns about perverse culture of academics that are poisoning the minds of today’s college students. It appears that this disease is afflicting institutions of higher learning, particularly the department of humanities. We also have observed that works published on Sikhism from Western universities (USA and Canada), especially the ones with endowed Sikh chairs, distort Sikhsim under the cloak of academic research. A case in point is the work of Doris R. Jakobsh whogot her PhD in 2000 from the University of British Columbia under the supervision of Prof. Hajot Oberoi. My recent critical review of her Relocating Gender In Sikh History: Transformation, Meaning and Identity demonstrates unequivocally that she has used gender study as a ploy to spread false information about Sikh Gurus and Sikhs.1 For example, her portrayal of the role of Sikhs in the mutiny of 1857 is in stark contrast to the events that took place in 1857 and the views of prominent Indian historians.

  3. face the TRUTH my friend. Khalsas (excluding Anglo-Sikh wars and mercenaries fighting for diff paymasters) were never involved in a battle which would find a mention among the most famous. they did not fight one single invader on the battlefield even though Punjab faced the highest number of invasions from among the indian states. No battle with Abdali, nadir shah, etc.

Forget the invaders, the Khalsas were not involved in any battle which is included in the famous Indian battles exp Anglo-Sikh wars which they, as we know, LOST. Come out of the well, stop being a khoo da dadoo.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_battles

Just because battles not mention doesn't mean Sikhs never fought any battles . 1857 was never a freedom movement and India was never a Single country , accept it .

Stolen Years: A Memoir of Simranjit Singh Mann's Imprisonment Hardcover – 11 Sep 2014 by Pavit Kaur

In 1984, Simranjit Singh Mann resigned from the Indian Police Service in protest of Operation Blue Star, the Indian Army operation ordered by Indira Gandhi, then prime minister, that cleared the Golden Temple complex of Sikh militants. Mann was subsequently charged, among other things, with conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. A passionate Sikh whose radical beliefs were honed by his family, Mann went underground and was apprehended while trying to flee the country. He spent five years in prison, after which all charges were dropped.

Three decades after Blue Star, his daughter Pavit Kaur looks back on the years her father spent in prison. In this disarmingly honest and emotionally charged account, Pavit Kaur documents her father’s hellish journey through the Indian prison system. This is also a personal story and the story of a family during one of the most fraught times in India's history.

    Quote
‘A fascinating account of how Operation Blue Star turned life for a prosperous Sikh family into hell. The author, daughter of the controversial Sikh politician Simranjit Singh Mann, who spent five years in jail on a trumped-up charge of sedition, says, “Bhindranwale shared an ideology with my father: a separate homeland for the Sikhs”’—

  5. which history and facts your are talking about? kissing gora feet or backstabbing 1857 revolutionaries or honouring Jallianwala Bagh butchers (making Gen Dyer a hon. Sikh) or trifurcating Punjab to grab power? Such films are nothing but attempts to make money by ruthless expolitation of sentiments. film-makers dont give a damn about peace in punjab. imagine hindus honoring Tytlers, Sajjan Kumars, Nathuram Godse and Babu Bajrangis..

We have so many times discuss the 1857 bullshit but Hindu Jihadi will not understand after all Hindu is Anna . Who is stopping you to make movie on Godse ? Hindu have many times honored Sajjan and Tytler by giving them votes .

As far i know there is movie or Drama on Nathu ram called Me Nathuram Godse Boltoy (Natak). What about Savarkar ? Why you people has his Photo is parliament ? What he has done ? He was the first racist Hindu scum who wanted to kill minorities ?

Do you Hindus believe Indira Gandhi to be your demi god or something ?

  6. Three of Gurdaspurs four tehsils were non muslim majority, these ended up in india, but the fourth tehsil "zafarwal" ended up in pakistan. that tehsil was the biggest and all put together would have made the muslims a majority in gurdaspur.

there was also a rumour that nehru asked mountbatten to include gurdaspur in india, as it provides the best land access to Jammu and Kashmir.

Can you suggest some books where i can read all this ?

  7. yes its very interesting. its a collection of short stories about experiences of Sikh, Hindu and Muslim families from Lahore.

It provides very insightful details of that part of history, told by the common man.

I always wanted to know why Muslim dominated Gurdaspur was given to India But lahore whose urban area was dominated by Hindus end up with Pakistan.

  8. I have bought some books from India, well quite a lot actually.

  9. this guy is a frustrated...phuddu... fanatic. There are many stations or places even outside Punjab which have been named after Sikh icons or have the suffix "sahib" attached to their names. Such petty thinking! such pathetic logic! they did not name a train after GT so we butchered 1000s.

vaishno Devi station has been constructed for crores of Bhagats who go for the pilgrimage. u have problems with that too! smaller places (even outside Punjab) like Nanded, Patna, Hemkunt,Paonta have the suffix 'Sahib' attached to their names. Many trains named after Sikh icons, there is not only a GT Express but also Akal Takht Express, sachkhand express, Hemkunt Express, etc. As far as using the prefix 'Sri' is concerned, it is not even Sikh!! U should demand amritsar to be named as Sardar Amritsar Sahib

This guy is speaking truth that punjabi Hindus oppose the naming of Amritsar to Sri Amritsar Sahib and they also oppose the Holy status to it .

The word Sardar is used for Man and where as word Hindu is used for chor, kanjars like u

Name of Vaishno devi shrine should be changes to Chora de Rani shrine .

  10. Same old non-sense, nothing new to offer. i can post 100s of such incidents of atrocities by 'high caste' Sikhs on 'low-caste' sikhs.

who has been killing... i am not sure as i live in 2014 not 714. You always single out Punjabi Hindus for their perceived flaws and insist on posting links about them (like Batala riots which boomranged on u), why mention Bihari bahmans' militia (Ranvir Sena)? what PHs have got to do with Satis? BTW, Maharaja Ranjit Singh's ranis and maids concubines also committed sati when he died, so? PHs also do not have anything to do with Naxalites ...DTMs.

On the other hand, casteism among the Sikh high castes (esp Jats) is so well-entrenched that a Jat (former shudras themselves) in 100s of Punjab vilages would not let dalits cremate their dead in the same cremation grounds. the same pathetic loser has no problem if a Hindu high caste person uses the same shamshan! Similarly, jat would fume but would except if his daughter marries a Hih caste Hinu boy but if she marries a dalit Sikh,

Get your turbaned head out of the sand Mr Ostrich Singh.

Get your shit dot head out of sand and see the reality that you people are the real problem u can drink cow piss but eating from Muslim and dalit house makes you to do vomit . Idiot piss drinker

  11. Another denial to Sikhs if they have any recognition in india.
Today a train service started from Udhampur to Katra to facilitate the pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi shrine.
The ame of this new Railway Station is given SHRI MATA VAISHNO DEVI KATRA.
But the name of Amritsar is still not changed to give respect to main shrine of Sikhs. This needs to be called officially as SRI AMRITSAR SAHIB.
    Badal's needs to wake up.

  12. By Ajmer Singh Randhawa

    CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG;

During Sikh struggle, Sikhs in Punjab demanded to name a train as golden express. It was not accepted by Congress govt. in center. Sikhs persued it but Hindus in Punjab opposed it.

Those who couldn't tolerate the name, how could they tolerate the Golden Temple as SIFTI DA GHAR? So they distributed sweets in Hall Bazar of Amritsar and welcomed Indian army.

  13. Ha! ...whose birthplace is yet to be confirmed but is everywhere in the 'other' faith's holiest books!!

Grandmother of ironies - Sikhs kill in the name of Gurus who preached about universal brotherhood. They discriminate in the name of faith which says manas ki jaat aik pechanbo!

Yes we kill who wants to kill us and we will continue to do that and its discrimination of your kind that push the Sikhs to arm struggle and it can happened in future too if you people specially so called Punjabi Hindu dont change their attitude .

Who is killing dalits from thousand years ? Who wrote Manu Samriti ? Who created Ranvir Sena ? Who is building mandir of Sati Mata by innocent widows ? i can go on and on . History of your kind is full of this . All Naxalite and Muslim terrorism problem is because of your people and your relegion who discriminate against Dalit, Tribals and Minorities . When are you going to accept it that your Bharat Mata is becoming a shit hole .

  15. New Delhi: Questioning Shirdi Sai Baba's status as a Hindu god, Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati said that Sai Baba was someone "who used to eat meat and worshipped Allah, (and) a man like that can never be a Hindu god."

He also claimed that the devotees of Sai Baba use pictures of sanatan dharm gods and make money. "If they don't use pictures of our god, who will give them anything," he questioned.

While he admitted that people have the freedom to worship, he said that Sai Baba tries to position himself as god which is not acceptable to them. "We accept only 5 gods. Anyone who positions himself as an addition isn't acceptable to us," he said.

Shankaracharya also rubbished claims that he has raised objection over Sai Baba at the behest of Congress. "It is wrong to say that I am doing this at the behest of Congress. I am not a political person," he said.

After Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati had said that Hindus should not worship Shirdi Sai Baba along with other Hindu gods, the Sai temple in Lucknow filed a petition in Allahabad High Court seeking an FIR against him. The court will hear the case on Friday. A case has also been filed against Shankaracharya Saraswati in Jaipur.

The Naga seers have also sided with Shankaracharya. The Nagas have said if Shankaracharay is insulted they will take to the streets in protest. The Naga sadhus have also called the issue a religious war. However, Shankaracharya has claimed that he hasn't asked the nagas to fight with him. "I haven't asked nagas to come to fight with me but if they want to then they should. This is a religious war (dharmayudh)," he said.

"We are okay with whatever idol they choose to worship. But if they place the idols of our Gods at the feet of Sai Baba, it is unacceptable to us," said Shankaracharya supporter Swami Narendra Giri.

  16. I don't know what you are trying to prove but anyway here goes the 4 yr old news from the mainstream media (the one you have given is the Christian version). I have highlighted some relevant parts (christian mob damaged over 50 shops...damage to the church minimal):

Christians, Hindus clash in Batala; curfew clamped
    Saturday, 20 February 2010 - 4:36pm IST | Place: Batala | Agency: PTI

Members of the Christian community took out a protest march over publication of a picture of Jesus Christ in an allegedly objectionable manner which turned violent.

Members of Christian and Hindu communities clashed and indulged in vandalising public property here today over publication of a picture of Jesus Christ in an allegedly objectionable manner, prompting authorities to clamp an indefinite curfew.

Police said members of the Christian community took out a protest march through the town during which some of them turned violent and set afire six two-wheelers, damaged three buses, a shopping mall and around 50 shops in different areas.

They were protesting against the publication of a picture of Jesus Christ in a book by a Delhi-based publisher recently which was reproduced in some newspapers in the state.

Protestors belonging to Hindu community also took to the streets and tried to set on fire a church, police said adding, the damage to the place of worship was minimal as the fire brigade and the police reached the spot in time.

Sub-divisional magistrate Rahul Chabha said curfew has been clamped to maintain law and order. Police patrolling has been intensified and additional personnel deployed.

The building of the Government Primary School in Krishna Nagar area was also damaged, police said.

My post is rply of your comment that we dont go after people with swords . We Sikhs dont burn churches , mosques and Gurdwaras specially in the name of i god whose birth place is yet to be confirm .

  17. Since you are still indulging in the finger-pointing, 'yo-mama' games, the gundh near home belongs to you. Hindus in Punjab are not boycotting dalits. Hindus in Punjab are not indulging in mass female foeticide, bowing to semi-literate clergy which eulogises mass murderers from their pulpits. Hindus are not running with naked swords after marginalised faiths. yes, Hindus in Punjab have "issues" and some of them (very small number) make mistake of mud-slinging too but it has been institutionalised in modern day sikhi. katha vachaks, pathis, 'quack' historians (fresh graduates of Youtube and Facebook universities) ...MUST vilify Hindus, bahmans to prove that the faith of which they are the sole thekedars is better and their history is full of sacrifices which has got india independence, saved Hinduism, saved Hindu girls and all that, to borrow a word from your arsenal, shite.

if you say Hindus should get over their rituals, following every baba, casteism...they should overhaul their faith; totally with you.

Authorities in Batala, a town of Punjab, have partially removed curfew after clashes broke out last February 20 between Hindu extremists and the Christian minority. To violence was sparked by the publication of a cartoon with a picture of Jesus raising a beer in one hand and holding a cigarette in the other. The chief minister of Punjab condemns the blasphemous image and promises an iron fist against anyone who "foments sectarian hatred." Bishop Anil Couto, Bishop of Jalandhar, invites the faithful "to peace and brotherhood."

The cartoon, published by a publisher in Delhi, has sparked protests from the Christian community of Batala, a town in the district of Gurdaspur in Punjab. On 20 February the city streets were the scene of violent clashes between Hindus and Christians, who wanted the closure of shops and businesses. Activists of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Shiv Sena - Hindu extremist groups - waged a guerrilla war on the Christians, injuring to 10 people, damaging several shops and the burning of the Salvation Army Mukhi Fauj church, the city's oldest and best known.

To stem the violence, local authorities have imposed a curfew, which has been partly removed today. A police official says that they want to give people the possibility to "to leave their homes for shopping or other necessities." He also adds that "the level of alert" remains high to prevent new clashes.

Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab, has condemned the offensive image and points the finger at "those who do not appreciate peace” and foment sectarian hatred. He adds that the police have recieved well-defined guidelines to "punish those guilty of sacrilege."

Mgr. Anil Couto, Bishop of Jalandhar, appeals for calm and brotherhood. The prelate calls the faithful to practice the teachings of the Gospel, promoting peace and forgiveness, but at the same time points out that too often "provocative actions or images" wound the soul and the religious feelings of Christians. He invites the faithful to "be proud" of their religion, while not forgetting the message "of peace and love brought by Jesus Christ."
