The mistake made by the Akalis who after 15th of August up until December 1947 virtually controlled all of the present Punjab was not to fight to stop the settlement of Hindus from West Punjab as well as not declaring the Sikh areas of East Punjab as well as the Sikh ruled Princely States as an independent State. This would have led to the West Punjab Hindus going to Delhi and the rest of India and not settling in Doaba as they did. The Sikhs who had to go to Delhi and other places could then have settled in Sikh areas of East Punjab.

Why Punjabi Hindus always opposing every Sikh demand made to the Government, be it a demand for a holy city or the naming of one train after the Golden Temple, or even naming of a road inside Punjab after the Guru's name ?

Mr. Ranjit Singh Bhinder, a DSP of Intelligence Bureau (IB), getting down from a jeep. They entered the house of Pundit Narinder Nath Bhutar

a alias "Nindo." Pundit Nindo is said to be a patron of the Shiv Sena and a close confidant of Mr. Darbara Singh, the former Chief Minister of

Punjab. Mr. Nindo had also acted as Election in-charge of Mr. Darbara Singh in the past. After Mr. Umrao Singh and the IB person left the town the Shiv Sena workers from outside started reaching the town.

According to Mr. Mohan Singh, (SO, PWD), when the news of the influx of Sena workers reached the villages, about 40-50 persons reached

the outskirts of Nakodar where the DSP of Nakodar, Mr. Gopal Singh Ghuman advised them to go back. He told them that they could not

be allowed to go inside the town due to curfew restrictions and assured them that the Gurdwaras were safe. Upon which they returned to their homes. Mr. Ramesh Chopra alias Khan admitted that he was regarded as a prime suspect from the very first day as he had been informed by Mr. Prem

Sagar, the Municipal Commissioner (MC) the same evening. He added that the Sikhs had given an ultimatum to the police to arrest him by 6.00 PM on

February 3. He had therefore, collected Shiv Sena activists in Moha

lla Tandona and took out a procession at 6.30 PM in a show of his strength while raising inflammatory slogans, "Jai Shiv

Shakti, Jai Trishul." The administration imposed curfew restrictions immediately

The Punjab Hindu Shiv Sena wanted to take out a procession but the authorities thought it prudent to clamp curfew at 7:00 PM on February 3. Baba Joginder Singh and the Shiv Sena leader, Rama-

kant Jalota, arrived at Nakodar the same day but the Baba left the town at 5:30 PM The same night the police arrested 12 Sena activists who were

violating curfew restrictions and moving around with unsheathed swords.

Earlier, on February 3, some Sikh youths staged a dharna (protest) outside the Police station and the Bus Stand demanding the arrest of local Shiv

Sena leader Mr. Romesh Chopra alias Khan, a vegetable commission agent, who, they alleged, was responsible for the fire. At about 4.00 PM a

large number of villagers joined the youths and sieged the police station and demanded the arrest of the alleged arsonists. The District Magistrate, Mr. S. C. Aggarwal and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mr.

Izhar Alam rushed to the town with Police re-enforcement. There

was tension in the town. It ulti-mately led to firing by the Police on February 4, 1986, killing at least four persons and injuring

many more, for which the Punjab Government announced a judicial inquiry. The All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) rejected the inquiry and called it as "a mere eyewash." The Federation

demanded registration of criminal cases against the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and police officers responsible for killing the people. They denied the official version of "four deaths" and added that many more persons had died and over two dozen injured. The Federation

observed "Black Day" on February 8, 1986, and asked the Chief Minister to resign on the ground of his failure to control the police force which had killed "innocent Sikh youths."

I would give you just one example (even though their are twenty or more) where agitations for the creation of a separate state are going on for so many decades - telangana.

The agitation for sep Telangana have been going on for over 50 years. thousands have died. 100s of youths have committed suicides for telangana and now they have agreed to carve out Telangana out of Andhra pradesh.

Going by your logic, all the traffic signs in Delhi should not have gurmukhi script as 90% population does not understand the script and it makes the traffic sign too cramped anyway (English, Hindi and Urdu also used). in Punjab,on the other hand, the traffic signs inc huge overhead boards are in Gurmukhi and English. lakhs of tourists and visitors who cannot understand English (and Gurmukhi of course) can go and get stuffed.

• 1984 Harbans Lal Khanna, a former M.L.A. and B.J.P.’s Amritsar district president, is shot dead along with his bodyguard. Eight Sikhs were killed and nine were injured during the funeral procession the next day.

The Hindu mobs under the command of Harbans Lal Khanna did many protests against the Sikhs in Amritsar, in which the Hindu racist mobs would attack Sikhs and their businesses as well as Sikh gurudwaras. Under the command of Harbans Lal Khanna, his mobs destroyed the golden statue of Sri Darbar Sahib at Amritsar railway station and they also got the photo of Guru Ram Das Ji and burnt it with cigarettes. The slogans Harbans Lal Khanna used against the Sikhs were:

Kangha, Kara, Kachera, Kirpan
Ehnu Pejo Pakistan!”

The Indian law never charged Harbans Lal Khanna for his racist slogans. On 1st April 1984 from the second floor of Guru Ram Das Langar Hall, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale spoke out against the attacks on Sikhs by the groups of Harbans Lal Khanna. The message Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale sent to Harbans Lal Khanna and the Sikh nation was:

“In Haryana 24 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji were burnt. Six gurudwaras were also burnt. Twelve trucks and two cars of the Sikhs were burnt. Hundred and 25 singhs hair were forcefully cut and sent to me. Three Sikh girls were made to stand naked on the main road for 2 hours. For seven days this kept on happening. They have insulted our Sikh girls. The girls are crying, no one was saving them on the main road. Till the culprits are not punished, I will not rest. Also this message has been sent to Bhajan Lal, that he can live in the middle of the ocean but I will definitely meet him at whatever cost
