  1. yes... i m loving.. archiveed folders.. though some posts in archived folders give reference to more older post.. but i guess they r too old and hence cant open.. N30.. figure it out plz

i m looking into sansrit to hindi/punjabi/english.. but no good dictionary online...

apart from kulbir singh proficiency in linguistics.. it doesnt matter to me.. all i want to know whre to get sanskrit meanings .. any dictionary online?

    i m getting very confused..

i recently got married and my wife's brother is hardcore akj.. i m not ..neither my wife.. but i respect akj

then one day he asked me abt usual raagmala stuff.. i said buddy i heard baba gurbachan singh ji's katha.. and i m satisfied.. even if its not gurbani.. i wud accept the punishment of reading extra than not reading it. Period. he is cool.. he never makes a fuss..

anywys.. when i went deeper read gurbani paath darpan... the meanings used for words.. i want to know how/where did he got it?

for example.. taal in gurbani can be used for pond, sarovar, hrida, etc

but panch? i want to know how is panch = sreshth (most praised, highest, etc)?

    thx

  2. WJKK WJKF,

its been a long time since i asked anything.. its soo interesting to just read the archive folders.. :)

ok.. i was reading yesterday some old threads on raagmala and someone posted what bhai kulbir singh (tapoban) posted abt raagmala.. specially that he read the meanings done by baba Gurbachan Singh ji bhindrawaley and he found it absurd, non-sensical from grammar point of view etc etc., in other words complete rejection.

so, i started reading it from Gurbani paath darpan, its quite interesting.. but i m stuck in 3rd line where babaji says that "panch" means sreshth. i checked many dictionaries but found tht panch means 5?

i know i'll be stuck in future lines too as i progress.. so its better to know what dictionary to follow or how to know the meanings? same goes with bairangan (angan means limb.. wht does bai stands for)..

i guess thts why kulbir singh ji told tht the meanings of words were not correct!!

  3. Balbir Singh ji...

in essence u r right. infact Gurudwara is our body itself.. Rabb de darshan isi body temple ch honge.

But.. please dont take it to extreme.. what u r talking is a very deep context..

for a beginner.. he/she has to go thru some of this stuff.. during Guru's time sangat used to come wherever Guru used sit and give updesh.. that was a sort of "gurudwara" too..

if u start preaching like the way u r now.. ppl will stop coming to "brick and stone" gurudwara.. how will u preach then???

u have to bring children (that means jigyasu at very beginning stage of bhagti) to school.

i agree many preachers say come to gurudwara all sukh will come.. etc etc.. but thats the general humanity way..

atleast ppl will come .. and jiski surat tik gayi.. usne laaha paa leya.. phir gurudwara is opened in his/her body..

plz.. as maskeen ji used to say,, sangat di avastha and interest dekh ke hi gall karni chahidi haa.. \

  4. wht i feel is that the arth by Bhupinder singh for thak paahe is correct.

but i checked mahan kosh, maskeen ji katha, thakur singh katha.. everyone says that manukh daatan lende lende thak jaunda hai.. but seriously trishna kitthe thakdi hai? till last breath human always keeps on asking/hoping more and more!!

so..isnt this a point to ask any good kathavachak (baba hari singh, bhai pinderpal singhji, gyani thakur singh) and let him know this alternative (better) meaning.

  5. WJKK WJKF

Veer Bhupinder Singh ji (thelivingtreasure.com) came to Calgary for a day and gave a katha/lecture and touched various topics like nasha.. tension.. composition of SGGSJ etc etc

overall it was good. i would say he is a brilliant orator and the way to interpret bani is quite "modern".

in that "modern" interpretation he interpreted the line from Japuji sahib "denda de lenda thak paahe" as:

the Giver keeps giving all the daata (of bhakti, intellectualism, naam ras, satbuddhi, goodness, etc etc) always, as soon as the person gets it (only when he knows how to get it) then his mind becomes settled down (that means all tension gone, he becomes blissful)

so according to Veer ji, he said thak paahe means "settled down".

he said in all the kathas and teekas he has seen it as thak paahe = get tired

Babaji keeps giving so much that we get tired.. this makes no sense because we never get tired .. trishna never does.

so in essence he kept saying Gurbani khud khojo.. u will get new meanings.. old meannings does not mean they r right..

if with old meanings u get 50% elevated in avastha.. and with new meaning u get 60% so that concludes new meanings are better.

    i need ure opinion sangat..

i had conversation with him too at the end of session.. which i will tell in next topic.

if u need individual katha links.. then it wud be better to let us know your interest.. like.. katha related to history, or straight line to line meanings.. or deep veechar on a specific tuk from gurbani.. or just a general kathaa on any topic (like vikaar, pain, maya.. etc.)

    thx
