  1. Quite a few Singhs from 3HO (check out www.sikhnet.com) wear Cholas to work. Personally i feel that 'Bipran ki reet' relates both to Hindu practices and trying to be like the majority (hiding your identity) - basically not having the guts to stand up for what's right out of fear of what others will think.

The Dastar and 5Ks help give the strength to stand alone. Hence the link between Bana and Bipran ki reet.

BTW - Bana for me refers to the external kirya of the Khalsa and Bani the internal.

  2. Traditional style Kacherey are made in such a way that you can wear nothing else and still be decent (for want of a better word). They also give you loads of 'room' keeping everything healthy, more comfortable than boxers, can't be pulled off, nala has many uses, etc etc

  3. The Dasam Granth was not even authored by Guru Gobind Singh and it has nothing to do with Sikh religion

    idiots, maha moorakh mugadhs!!!

just because they are not mature enough to see what Maharaj is telling us they come out with this rubbish. As some one who wasn't always religious (to put it mildly), i fully agree with Charitropakhyan and the warning to men to be careful of maya in the form of women, in fact if i had read it earlier, i wouldn't have made some very stupid mistakes......

  4. Naam di daat. is the gift or the virtue of the incantation matra given by one to another in order to meditate upon it in order to attain union with God. With mainstream sikhs the naam is given byt the 5 piaray. in Udasis, Sanyasis and Brahmcharis is is given by the teacher to the student.

but then why do Amritdhari Singhs still ask for Naam di Dat?

  5. Sant Isher Singh Ji gives one explanation of what Naam is in one of the 'atmik bachan' recordings - before they explain how to do simran. Maybe Neo or Kam have the recordings?

One explanation that I have heard (amongst others..) is that we literally ask Maharaj to make us their own and give us their name - like a bride takes the groom's family name.

Another explanation i once heard is that the word Naam can be thought of as 'Na Meh' (No ego) so this would again be asking Maharaj to merge us into themselves.

The most common interpretation i've come across is that asking for Naam is asking to be put on the path of simran and for 'safalta' on that path.
