Cheers Shaeediyan - I'll try out these techniques for sure!
-
Liabilty may have been the wrong word, just that the dhara takes a battering sometimes depending on who I'm training with - ironically, it's the Singhs who don't think twice about pulling! the others are a bit more respectful.....
The reason I ask is that I know Singhs have been training in wrestling for centuries, so there must be a way the old warriors tied their kesh and dastar to make them more secure - a dumalla comes off just as easily as other styles when sparring hard btw.
-
Thanks for the idea, i'll try it for sure. What about the dhara?
-
Fateh!
My dhara has grown somewhat and ends up becoming a liabilty when practising grappling or wrestling. I know many Singhs do some martial art or the other / shaster vidiya etc - what do you lot do?
Also, is there a way to do the jura so it doesn't open? - I tried many styles of dastar but they all come off at some stage.

Amardeep, some people reckon that gyaan needs to be earned, so they aren't so free with their knowledge. That leaves people like me as ignorant as ever.
It's a shame because, like you say, some people here have a huge amount of gyaan.

If it's true, they should be flogged in public.

Maula clearly said that his only real army are the khulsah who will come with him at the end of time.
JM - are these the same as 96 crore khalsa gupt fauj?
also, do shias have the same view of 'heaven' as other muslims?
-
The very fact u post this shows that you judge my son...
lol- I just came across it today and thought it sounded good....
-
JM,
1. what does the word Panth mean? - we always hear that it means nation, what do you reckon?
2. Some of us don't really give a c*ap about caste or race, but i know some do.
3. I have been a victim of islamic violence....but with Guru's kirpa sorted them out and I still love them all.
4. I am not in de-nile i am in de-getto.
You are young, my son, and, as the years go by, time will change and even reverse many of your present opinions. Refrain therefore awhile from setting yourself up as a judge of the highest matters.—Plato

Muslims oppressed Sikhs until the fall of the Mughal raj (except for a a few short periods in-between). It is natural for there to be mistrust, logical or not. A lot of what is being said above and the Iran thread reminds me of how the RSS claim everything was invented in Mother India, but this time it is Persia.

Thanks Singh!
Lots of other Granths on that site as well.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get copies of Sant Isher Singh Ji's diary? Apparently they wrote of their own personal experiences with simran, Gursikhi etc. It would be interesting to read how they performed simran and developed so much pyaar for Maharaj Ji - it's easier to get directions from someone who's been where we want to go init?

Without Gurbani, Amrit is just sweet water.....The initiation may be similar but what about the Gurbani, Rehat etc.
Also, there are HUGE differences between Sikhi and all variations of Islam e.g. the sanctity of Kesh in Sikhi - Muslims shave their moustaches and around the groin, the whole body when going on Haaj (whether Shia or Sunni);
Marriage to cousins is taboo in Sikhi but common amongst Shias (if you've studied basic genetics, you know how foolish this is);
Temporary marriages are allowed for Shias;
Their view of Sachkhand....;
Sunat (circumcision);
etc etc.
The point is that Sikhi is distinct from Shiaism. Of course there will be similarities - There is only 1 God after all - but Sikhi is distinct.
My 2cents worth

Have any of you read the stuff on these boards? It seems that sometimes questions have been asked about Sikhi, but most of the time they're answered by non-Sikhs.
Javanmard, you wrote that you went to the birthday celebration of Imam Mahdi but the majority of muslims at the site (link below) believe he hasn't been born yet.

The way I see it, we follow Rehat because of pyar - i.e. so much pyar for Guru Ji that we do everything they say, even if we don't know why.

Fateh Bahadur Singh!
Have the people you've met heard of Sikhs before?
-
He was misguided if he thought that. Sikander retarded the cause of civilisation, and has been residing in hell since his death.
Singho, you must be good mates with Dharamraja to get that kind of inside info.....

If you can't learn Shaster Vidiya, I'd recommend Brazilian jujitsu for ground fighting and Muay Thai + boxing for stand up. Krav Maga seems pretty good but not many teachers.
Personally, I feel that traditional MA have become too showy and rigid. You want to learn to disable an attacker as fast as possible, not waste time throwing spin kicks etc.

Thanks for the replies! Pheena - what do you mean by 'vacancy'? - emptiness?
another thing I'm not sure about (hence my name...) is how to read Gurbani with Pyaar. I was told that this is the way that Gurbanis 'Anbhav saroop' can be experienced. Does it mean reading slowly, trying to understand?
-
I've heard from a few Gursikhs that Bairag (described as intense longing, but I could be wrong) is essential for bhagti, as is Pyaar for Maharaj Ji. How is this developed and increased?
show me the light....

Haile Selassie I wasn't Rasta or Bobo - read about him. He was just 'adopted' by the Rastafarians and was in fact an Orthodox Christian and had no dreadlocks.
The only Rastafarians in Ethiopia are Jamaican immigrants....check out wikipedia to get an idea.
