  1. Liabilty may have been the wrong word, just that the dhara takes a battering sometimes depending on who I'm training with - ironically, it's the Singhs who don't think twice about pulling! the others are a bit more respectful.....

    The reason I ask is that I know Singhs have been training in wrestling for centuries, so there must be a way the old warriors tied their kesh and dastar to make them more secure - a dumalla comes off just as easily as other styles when sparring hard btw.

  2. Fateh!

    My dhara has grown somewhat and ends up becoming a liabilty when practising grappling or wrestling. I know many Singhs do some martial art or the other / shaster vidiya etc - what do you lot do?

    Also, is there a way to do the jura so it doesn't open? - I tried many styles of dastar but they all come off at some stage.

    Show me the light

  3. JM,

    1. what does the word Panth mean? - we always hear that it means nation, what do you reckon?

    2. Some of us don't really give a c*ap about caste or race, but i know some do.

    3. I have been a victim of islamic violence....but with Guru's kirpa sorted them out and I still love them all.

    4. I am not in de-nile i am in de-getto.

    You are young, my son, and, as the years go by, time will change and even reverse many of your present opinions. Refrain therefore awhile from setting yourself up as a judge of the highest matters.—Plato

  4. Does anyone know if it is possible to get copies of Sant Isher Singh Ji's diary? Apparently they wrote of their own personal experiences with simran, Gursikhi etc. It would be interesting to read how they performed simran and developed so much pyaar for Maharaj Ji - it's easier to get directions from someone who's been where we want to go init?

  5. Without Gurbani, Amrit is just sweet water.....The initiation may be similar but what about the Gurbani, Rehat etc.

    Also, there are HUGE differences between Sikhi and all variations of Islam e.g. the sanctity of Kesh in Sikhi - Muslims shave their moustaches and around the groin, the whole body when going on Haaj (whether Shia or Sunni);

    Marriage to cousins is taboo in Sikhi but common amongst Shias (if you've studied basic genetics, you know how foolish this is);

    Temporary marriages are allowed for Shias;

    Their view of Sachkhand....;

    Sunat (circumcision);

    etc etc.

    The point is that Sikhi is distinct from Shiaism. Of course there will be similarities - There is only 1 God after all - but Sikhi is distinct.

    My 2cents worth

  6. If you can't learn Shaster Vidiya, I'd recommend Brazilian jujitsu for ground fighting and Muay Thai + boxing for stand up. Krav Maga seems pretty good but not many teachers.

    Personally, I feel that traditional MA have become too showy and rigid. You want to learn to disable an attacker as fast as possible, not waste time throwing spin kicks etc.
