  1. Although I agree about your point about the bad karma from the murder of Bir Singh and his followers, I think we should also open our eyes to the oppression our people engage in amongst ourselves, over manmatti things like jaat paat, to explain our mundha haal and kumzoor state.

    Explaining our current halaat through a single incident in the past (as serious as it was) and overlooking we have been doing everyday in our recent past and even now, isn't smart.

    I think what is meant is mideeds leading to more misdeeds. Like, if a person falls from Sikhi by caving in to an old habit and taking a drink. He's probably going to fill another one, since he's already fallen. A little maas wouldn't hurt,a nd pretty soon neither will a little trim.

    A Sikh fauj killing a Brahmgiani Sant-Sipahi...think of the long term karmic ramifications. Similalrly we get sakhis from Guruji's time where seemingly small mistakes on the part of sikhs have resulted in long term consequences. Like the example of cremating of muslim bodies along with Sikh shaheeds during Guru Hargobind Sahib's time.

  2. Just to digress slightly, but something I feel I need to ramble on about:

    Let me give you the other side of the story- that is going away from the Guru!

    I took amrit in my teens, for several years I did the all the regulation stuff, prays, gurudwara etc, etc.

    In my early twenties I started changing: questioning Rabb: why after all these years of following him had I not achieved anything, both spiritual and material? I resented that I had religion forces down my throat.

    over the next couple of years I gave up nitnem, cut my beard (not my hair on my head though, because that was a BIG attractor for the girls!). I started doing all the usual stuff that guys do at that age. I didn't become athiest. I always believed in the Lord - I was just effing pizzed off with Him for letting me down and not granting my desires!

    Anyway, over the last couple of months I started thinking about what I have achieved in life. I came to realise that in all aspects of my life I have been a failiure in very major endevour I undertook- business, financial, career, relationships, health etc. Then having a chat with my mother (bless her cotton socks)she made me realise that I have been in this state of 'recession' since I started cutting my hair. Since I forsake my guru i have been having problem after problem. Even though I didn't actually achieve much before that, I have come to realise that I was firmly on the journey to success, albeit in the early stages.

    Perhaps in my naievity I thought that the god would place everything in my laps just like that. However ,that is not how life works. You are given opportunities, coincidences happen, you meet just the right person to help you on your way, thoughts occur at the right time. and you use these things to help you progress. yet thinking back, these things were happening to me BUT I didn't appreciate it as the workings of Him. Not being spoon-fed by Him I took it as the guru refusing to help me. But the The Guru was giving me all I was asking of Him, I just couldn't see.

    For the past decade, with every setback, failiure, problem I had, the Guru was sending me a quiet message to me, nudging me back onto the Path. SOmehow, 'the problems are nothing, and will only get worse if you don't go back to your guru'.

    Now for whatever reason, (perhaps, because I started doing nitnem in the past year?!)he has graced me with this knowledge and realisation. I now know what must be done if I want to gain spiritual and material prosperity.

    They say the Lord works in mysterious ways and for me He has been for the past many years. It wasn't supernatural or divine or miraculous in the popular sense but it still carried the same meaning. Being of moti-buddhi its taken over 10 yrs to understand. Oh well, time get moving.

    Hope some of that makes sense to you you guys.

    Thanks for sharing that brother. I think many of us go through similar situations and emotions on our path. I've seen rough patches in life when I've wavered in my faith. We sometimes do exactly the opposite of what we should do when hardships come. Instead of showing faith in Guruji and increasing our prayer/paath, we melt away and lose faith. Like a Gursikh once said to me, don't treat Guruji like your servant, always asking Him to do things for you and not making an effort yourself. Ardaas has to be combined with bhagati and udam(action).

    It's remarkable though, once in a life if you've ever shown love to Guruji...no matter how you fall or break afterwards, Guruji has a way of nudging you back on track.

    Like you said, perhaps many of us haven't had those blessed single momment experiences, but we will have had more subtle, almost unnoticeable occurances where we've felt the power an love of Guruji in our lives. Many times we "see" them after many years have passed.

  3. National Post is right wing, part of the Canwest media empire (which also owns the infamous Vancouver Sun). They have never supported Sikhs on anything.

    Also, due to the Air India bombing the media and government has shown support for GOI version of events for 84. "Khalistan" is used like some loaded words like "Taliban" "terrorism", so the media doesn't even bother to present the other side of the story.

    We are viewed here like Muslims are viewed in the UK, to some extent.

  4. While I agree with the need to remedy the core of the problem, we mustn't rule out the methods adopted earlier. When these cults cross the line, it’s dutiful to give them a ticket on the train. Right now, most of these cults in Punjab operate within their understood limits, careful not to repeat the mistakes of their previous leaders. Exceptions are Bhaniraewala, who needs to be brought to justice for the unforgivable act of being the cause of saroops of Guru Maharaj being burnt.

    So essentially, I have to get out of bed before 6.00 AM at latest?

    I know I am asking a lot of questions but I am finding the way sihari is used in Gurbani strangely throwing me off my reading? Is this something anyone else has experienced? It is hard to describe. Plus at the moment I am listening to mp3s and following from my gutka reading out loud when possible (must drive flatmate mad! lol). I'm finding it hard to keep up at places. Is this common when starting or am I doing something incorrect?

    Sorry but I really want to try and do this properly.

    If you're having problems keeping pace, try Gyani Thakur Singh Ji's Santhyia Nitnem. It's done at a nice, slow pace. Roughly 30 minutes for JapJi sahib and same for Jaap Sahib. Total 5 Bani end up being 1:30.

  6. The repetitive and slow method of story telling has purpose to it. It helps to build and maintain the energy and get our Bir Rass to explosive levels.

    Also, reading the english tranlation is not the same as enjoying the Bani in it's original language.

    For example, when one hears Bhai Balbir Singh recite those select chhands in his well versed manner, you don't need to understand the meaning to experience the energy of the Bani.

    November the complete Teeka of Sant Giani Gurbachan SIngh Jis Katha will be released. The teeka like the original pothi is the audio katha transcribed with a lot of additional notes of vedant and footnotes which the gianis made when sant ji taught them.

    Not long to wait now

    Just wondering if the Teeka has been released yet. If yes, any way of ordering it? If no, any info on when it will be released?

  8. With the type of physically demanding work the older lot did (not the parent's generation, but the grandparents), butter was essential. Well, their whole diet was more natural. Chemical pesticides and fertilizers hadn't become common yet, fruits and vegies were grown and eaten from their own land, no preservatives, waxes, growth chemicals.

    With the work load and hot climate, folks didn't put on much weight.

    Even today I think if we cut out our other fatty foods and stick to just butter, then it shouldn't be any problem. Only problem is, if we have a teaspoon of butter, then some chips (North American kind, not the "fishn'chips), then some fries, then some cookies,...

    Restrict your diet to just the simple Punjabi diet( plenty of dahi, milk, dals, gheo) combined with plenty of cardio and weights...I see it as soney tey sohaga, no harm at all.

    If on the other hand you can't be bothered to excercise, then do your heart a favor and skip the butter. As Gurbani says..."Khoob Khana kheechari"....rice and dal is just fine...

  9. I'm surprised at the amount of outright lies and purposeful mis-interpretation fauji and his friends propagate. There isn’t even a half-hearted attempt to understand Dasam Granth. Just a vicious and rabid campaign, more appropriate for murky politics than religion.

    It makes one wonder if any of these Dasam Granth haters even do one Japji a day. How many of them do moolmantar gurmantar simran? From their words and actions it seems they are kesadhari nastics.

    And Harmanjit, when are you going to answer us about fabricating that story about Baba Hari Singh supposedly running away from debating prf darshan. The full video showed a completely different story, not even close to what you were trying to claim.

  10. How do you know that sukha and jinda were pro DG? How do you know that Bhai Jarnail Singh Ji would still be pro DG today? Lets not assume things and learn from Gurbani. My dad was pro DG until some years back. You learn with time and age. It is all about Guru's blessings. When Guru showers more Gurmat gyan, person learns more.

    Come back to the Panth bro. Stop following the nonsense of these bemukhs who've infected the panth. You've been led astray from your Guru. Saying I follow Guru Granth Sahib Ji and then ridiculing, using vulgur language for Dasam Bani...brother, Guru is not going to be happy with you. Follow the path of our puratam great shaheeds, warriors,vidhvaans, gurmukhs...and come back to the Khalsa Fauj. As long as you oppose Dasam Patshah's Bani, you'll be an outcast, to put it mildly. Start now and beg Dasmesh Patshah to forgive you...you don't wanna die having done nindyia all your life of Kalgidhar's Bir Rass Bani.

    Go to Paonta Sahib and stay there for a month, or whatever time, doing seva and reciting Gurbani. Ask Dashmesh Patshah to show you the truth.

    But....whatever is in your destiny....remember, even nindaks are nindaks because that's the duty they've been assigned. Only way to change is to rub your forehead infront of maharaj to change your bad karams.

    Ironically, the host and Harmanjit sit in front giant posters of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji and Bhai Sukhdev Singh BHai Harjinder Singh. The very personalities they adorn their walls with would have given them a sound thrashing for opposing Dasam Patshah's Bani. I guess the Panth didn't have any learned Gursikhs for the past 300 years and only now these mahaan vidhvaans have shown us the truth of Dasam Granth.

    Brother, calm down, please. Dalsingh is on the same side of the fence as you. There is no need to turn combative over the slightest thing you disagree with. Every other forum member will tell you same thing. It honestly sounds like you're in grade 2 when you argue non-stop over non-issues. It's comical to read, i'll admit. :blush: I just feel sorry for dalsingh when you start hounding him for no apparent reason.

    Then the Sikhs gained some life/confidence, the One Guru protected them (or, they see only the One Guru).

    This is a quote to show Bhangu referred to both Tat and Bhadai Khalsa as Hindu. The quote itself doesn’t mean much without knowing what the rest of the text is talking about.

    2. Yes, it says Sandhoor applied to the ox.

    3. I think “mees” is a typo and should read “sees” as in head. That would make more sense. Indian publications are notorious for these types of mistakes. “khoob” means nicely. Meaning “they nicely beheaded [the ox].

    4. Can’t figure out what “be-maahni” means either. Could be the way this author spells out his Punjabi.

    Anyway, the main point is, reference to chandi has been edited out.

    6. “ Chandi seviho ma-it” = Served Chandi as mother

    “chahai Chandi sut bhet karahi” = As Chandi wished, the sons have been offered/sacrificed.

    “mata manyio na ik sut jetha” = Mother did not consider one son as the eldest. (Or, one son as the most worthy).

    “Sathur kar daye charo bheta” = Satguru Ji had offered/sacrificed all his sons.

    Just a novice translation. Hope we can continue this.

  14. Ghee or Oil on the scalp is very important anyone who wants to do some serious Simran/Bhagati. Kind of works the same way engine oil protects the engine from overheating.

    Even if you're planning to do a few hours of simran/paath, oil on the scalp is very beneficial.

    If you don't, you'll feel the top of your head to be very hot, dry, and itchy and it will interfere with your concentration.

    Even if you're not doing any intense bhagti, oil on the scalp will improve your concentration, alertness in daily life.

  15. People are quicker to point fingers and try to pull down Baba Ranjit Singh ji more because of his age and influence. To have such a tremendous positive influence on the Sangat, there has to be Kirpa of Satguruji. You have to travel to Punjab and see how much change their large diwans have brought in the Sangat.

    Most of the points people raise, they answer on stage. I have listened to a few of their diwans on cds, and their parchar is very effective.

    They even state that real change happens at the village level gurdwara, not so much in one day massive diwans.

    Some well intentioned people do feel uneasy with their lack of time they've spent in bhagati or study, but it's all in maharaj ji's hukam how they wish to use their sevadaars. Who knows how much bhagati they have from previous lives.

    Not taking away from gursikhs who've spent decades in bhagati and study before starting parchar, but we need to acknowledge that Satguruji can get their work done through anyone, in anyway.
