  1. Man, as the mystics understand him, is the immortal soul surrounded by seven aspects. Here follows a summary of the "seven aspects of man" established around the actinic causal body of the soul, anandamaya kosha, "sheath of bliss":

    1) the physical body, annamaya kosha, "food-made sheath;"

    2) the vital health body, pranic sheath, pranamaya kosha;

    3) the astral body, instinctive aspect of manomaya kosha;

    4) the human aura and instinctive mind, prabhamandala and manas chitta;

    5) the intellect, odic causal sheath, buddhi chitta;

    6) the subtle nerve system, nadis and chakras;

    7) the intuitive mind, actinodic causal sheath, vijnanamaya kosha, "sheath of cognition."

    Reverse your thinking about yourself... Visualize the pure radiant body of light, the being of the soul, the "I Am," the "Watcher." Then around that is formed the intuitive mind, and around that is formed the intellect. Then the chakras come into view, governing the highest to the lowest states of mind, and the ida, pingala and sushumna currents. The instinctive nature is formed around this, then the human aura, through which thought forms are created, then the vital health body, and then the physical body.

  2. then why are there quotes saying that one who doesnt beilive in the prophets are too kaafirs

    They go beyond the definition of the word and attach their own person interepetaiton/agendas and experiences to it.

    Perhaps this quote by Javanmard will help understand it better. It might not be describing the same word, but the idea is the same.

    Vâhigurûjîkâkhâlsâ Vâhigurûjîkîfateh

    Dear all,

    this multiplicity of interpretations is fine as long as one is aware of the following:

    There is a difference between objective definitions (i.e. objectively and universally true based on interpersonal criteria such as language, history etc...) and personal interpretations. My initial post was a definition i.e. what the word and concept means universaly and objectively. For the rest Rupz's and cybersingh's interpretations are how they perceive simran for themselves. We have different ways of looking at things but fact remains that words and concepts have an inherent objective and universaly valid meaning. It is totally fine to have a personal interpretation provided the objective definition remains the initial reference. The reason I am pointing this out is that there is an increasing trend in anglo-saxon religious circles (not just Sikh) to translate scripture and concepts with highly subjective and hence universaly non-valid interpretations. Let me give an example:

    Dr. Jodh Singh translates ik-omkâr by "one omkar". This is the most correct translation because it is as literal as possible and does not involve him putting his own personal interpretation of the concept forward? His translation can be accepted by all. On the other hand we have the translations from other people (mainly belonging to a neo-yogic new-age movement :wink: ) who translate ik-omkâr as "the one universal transcendental and immanent cosmic reality". This is the translator's own personal interpretation that he/she enforces on others by giving it the status of translation and thus giving it a universaly acceptable value that it doesn't actually have.

    I hope this helps

  3. true but people quote using the religious texts these people that wrote those texts wre also holy men wernt they? so they must know what they are talking about

    peace out my heheh you thought i was going to use the N word agin didnt you :D :D :D

    Even the Guru Granth Sahib speaks of Hell. What truely is Narak?

    For some its a firey pit where demons with pitchforks torture you. For other it is a state when their Lord is forgotten. For some it is the cycle of reincarnation that is Hell. For some it is Desire itself that is Hell.

    For some it is the 'Other' who is hell and this statement is perhaps the most simplist definition and yet contain within it the essence of what we call Hell.

  4. I thought this was interesting:

    The pineal gland secretes melanin during times of relaxation and visualization. As we react to Electromagnetic energy stimuli around us - so does the pineal gland.

    When activated, the pineal gland becomes the line of communication with the higher planes. The crown chakra reaches down until its vortex touches the pineal gland. Prana, or pure energy, is received through this energy center in the head. With Practice the vibration level of the astral body is raised, allowing it to separate from the physical.

    To activate the 'third eye' and perceive higher dimensions, the pineal gland and the pituitary body must vibrate in unison, which is achieved through meditation and/or relaxation. When a correct relationship is established between personality, operating through the pituitary body, and the soul, operating through the pineal gland, a magnetic field is created. The negative and positive forces interact and become strong enough to create the 'light in the head.' With this 'light in the head' activated, astral projectors can withdraw themselves from the body, carrying the light with them.

    Astral travel, and other occult abilities, are closely associated with the development of the 'light in the head'. After physical relaxation, concentration upon the pineal gland is achieved by staring at a point in the middle of the forehead. Without straining the muscles of the eye, this will activate the pineal gland and the 'third eye'. Beginning with the withdrawal of the senses and the physical consciousness, the consciousness is centered in the region of the pineal gland. The perceptive faculty and the point of realization are centralized in the area between the middle of the forehead and the pineal gland. The trick is to visualize, very intently, the subtle body escaping through the trap door of the brain. A popping sound may occur at the time separation of the astral body in the area of the pineal gland.

    Visualization exercises are the first step in directing the energies in our inner systems to activate the 'third eye'. The magnetic field is created around the pineal gland, by focusing the mind on the midway point between the pineal gland and the pituitary body. The creative imagination visualizes something, and the thought energy of the mind gives life and direction to this form.

    'Third eye' development, imagination, and visualization are important ingredients in many methods to separate from the physical form. Intuition is also achieved through 'third eye' development. Knowledge and memory of the astral plane are not registered in full waking consciousness until the intuition becomes strong enough. Flashes of intuition come with increasing consistency as the 'third eye' is activated to a greater degree, through practice.

    The pineal gland corresponds with divine thought after being touched by the vibrating light of Kundalini. Kundalini starts its ascent towards the head center after responding to the vibrations from the 'light in the head.' The light is located at the top of the sutratma, or 'soul thread', which passes down from the highest plane of our being into the physical vehicle.

  5. It should not be a concern of what the others say. The others say there is Heaven or Hell, does that mean there must be one? The others say there is no reincarnation, does that mean this is the only birth? The others say there is no God. Does that mean there isn't God?

    All that matters is your self-discovery of Truth. You are given directions through the Guru Granth Sabhi to the Truth. Walk it and then find the truth for yourself whether there truely is heaven or hell. If not then its nothing but the imaginative speculations of the afterlife.

    Thinking of Hell or Heaven for that matter will not make it a reality for you.

  6. again, brilliant answers and I always look forward to reading what you have to say. The question isn't one of personification I believe, the mental aptitude to sustain such a thought is beyond that of the normal individual. In a way it mirrors the reality but the mirror is like a reflection in water which gets skewed when you throw a rock in, because the mirror isn't constructed out of one's own experience. If it is out of own's own experience, then your point is a true reflection.

    Ideologically everything has truth, now does everything reflect that truth or reveal it is a different question. In every bir of guru granth sahib ji, we have paper which has writing on it, that writing is written with the same ink throughout the bir. We know gurbani is beyond words, but the question comes down to whether gurbani is

    a) something that is mystic in itself and a connection to god

    B) something that is mystic and points to god

    c) something that has flown from the same divinity that was manifest and in full expression within the gurus

    You are beautiful my friend....

    Words themselves are empty of the 'thing' that they represent, they are merely pointers towards those things. Just as the word Water will not quinch your thirst, instead must seek that liquid that is called water to quinch your thirst. The word Waheguru can be spoken in the same respect....repeating it as a word will not give you anything, but if your allow your mind and heart to fully invoke the response that this Word is trying to point towards....revolutions happen, Silence erupts within.

    So the Words in the Guru Granth Sahib are pointers, hints, arrows, that speak of the connection to God and they point towards God. And these words carry such sharpness of arrows that whosoever is struck with them cannot help but seek the source of those words. From where did these words flow from....these poetic sparks when sung with the love of ones heart and mind will light the way of your journey and carry you into your ownself.

  7. Someone told me that only the first verse was a "relevation" from God, and that everything else that follows is from Guru Nanak Dev Ji himself... Is this false? If so, how much is exactly from God?

    Truth is what is written, Truth is what was revealed by the 10 Gurus and the Masters who walked this Earth.

    If you use the word Truth instead of God, you'd find the answer in your own question. The question would lose its personification.

  8. i'll read your posts now, but i can see that you have concluded that He was God.

    so tell me..who was he praying to? God cant pray to God...

    Vaho Vaho Gobind Singh, Aaapy Gur (,) Chela

    (he) is both the Desciple and the Divine Concsiousness.

    When there is noting other than God, then he himself becomes the desciple, he himself is the begger, he himself is the King, he himself is the Guru. An Enlightened Master expresses this exact paradoxical leela, this play of the Divine Dance where the Master himself will express Vairaaag and he himself will express from a Divine Standpoint. He has realized that he is everything so it is so that Guru Nanak dev ji expressed Humility and prayer throughout their expressions from a Sevak's point of view.

  9. How this "His path" or his "devotees" when they profess to be Buddhists? A path which does not believe in A God.

    my beloved veer,

    What do the words "Infinite Paths" means when it comes to God?

    Do you think that for you to understand, every realized person must present "God" in a way in which you are able to comprehend through comparing the definitions which you have read, understood. If you feel they must present God like Guru Nanak dev ji did so then therein lie your error.

    Stop Comparing and declaring anyone path devoid of God. Once it is so that when you find God first, so then all Infinite Paths to him will unfold infront of you. Walk up the hill on ONE path and when you reach there you will see the infinite paths that exist from the valley below.

    Stop fighting with Words, go beyond them and see that everyone is Seeking God.

    Buddha Remained Silent whenever someone asked him of God, so tell me then, If one does not speak of God, does that mean they lack the realization of God?

    If one does not point a finger and say here is your God? Does that mean they don't know where God is?

    Does Silence equate to not knowing?

  10. I was just thinking about this movie again and it finally hit me. 'NINDA' is a perfect example of how the law of attraction works...the mroe we tend to bad mouth others, the more we inherit their bad virtues....Amazing...!!!

    haha it was like a lightbulb going off in my head!!!!

  11. Nanak speaks in praise of God not as a pundit, but as if inebriated. His words aren't those of a scholar, but rather they express a person completely steeped in the wine of love; therefore the repetitions. They are words spoken in a state of ecstasy, just as you see a drunkard going along the road repeating himself over and over and over again. Nanak is completely inebriated with some profound intoxicant, so he also indulges in repetition.

    Babar, the Moghul, invaded India. Taking Nanak to be of doubtful character, he had him imprisoned along with others. But gradually the news began to reach Babar that there was a unique prisoner who created around him a strange atmosphere, a spirit of intoxication, and he kept singing happily all day. Babar thought such a man cannot be imprisoned who has an internal freedom that cannot be put in chains, so he sent Nanak a message to come and see him. Nanak replied, "You will have to come and visit, O king, for Nanak is in that realm from which visiting people is out of the question." So Babar himself went to the prison to see. He was very impressed by Nanak's personality. He brought him to the palace and offered him the choicest wine. Nanak laughed and sang a song in which he told the king that Nanak has already tasted the wine of God, now no other wine can affect him. The king would do well to drink from Nanak's wine instead of the ordinary wine.

    These are songs of a drunkard. Nanak sings away like a small child or like a drunkard. He is not guided by any rule or conditions, nor has he tried to beautify his language. His poems are like uncut stones.

    When a poet writes, he writes and rewrites and makes a thousand changes. He worries about the grammar, he worries about the rhythm, the meter, the words. He makes many changes. Even a poet the caliber of Rabindranath Tagore used to do this. His diaries are full of cuts and rewrites.

    Nanak's words are different. They are not changed and arranged. They are just as Nanak uttered them. These are words that were spoken and not written; therefore no account is kept of the rhythm or the cadence or even the language. If it has a meter, it is the meter of the soul; if there is any grammar, it is not of man, but of God. If you find any rhythm in it, it is the rhythm of the ecstasy and intoxication within. This is why whenever anyone asked Nanak a question he would say, "Listen!" then Mardana, his close disciple, would pick up his instrument and Nanak would sing.

    Remember this, otherwise you will be confused at Nanak's constant repetition. You will wonder why he keeps saying His attributes are priceless, His worth is priceless... again and again. These are words spoken in ecstasy, not words repeated from somewhere; these are words that hummed within him. It did not matter if others heard. If you keep this in mind, Nanak's words will reveal countless depths.

    .........

    .........

    .........

    ......Nanak talks of Him for His very name is a source of bliss. He mentions Him at the slightest excuse, for it gives much joy. It seems he has nothing else to talk about. To introduce the subject is to knock at His door and when you talk of Him, the door opens. Have you ever noticed how a mother is always talking of her newborn child? Whether she talks to the neighbors, to her visitors, to the shopkeepers, the topic is always the child.

    The lover constantly tells his beloved how much he loves her, how beautiful she is, how unique, unparalleled. He tells her again and again, that there will never be another like her. How lucky he is to have her! The beloved doesn't realize why he keeps repeating the same things over and over. Constant repetition increases love. Love intensifies by constant repetition. Like the buzz of a bee as it hovers around the flowers, love begins to hum around the beloved.

    What happens in ordinary life is the same as in divine love, only on a different scale, but the substance remains the same. So Nanak goes on and on telling the same things about Him. If you have not loved, you will find this very jarring and foolish. The Japji can be told in three small words: Ek Omkar Satnam. Then why does he go on and on? There is so much pleasure, so much joy in talking about Him! And if the feeling takes birth within, you too will find how sweet, how tender is His name.

    A child was taught to say his prayers before going to bed. One day his mother observed him closely to see whether he really prayed. The child muttered one word and pulling the blanket up, lay down on the pillow. "What is this?" she asked, "Are your prayers over so soon?"

    The child answered, "Why should I waste my time saying the same things every day? So I say to God, 'Ditto!' and I'm sure He is intelligent enough to understand."

    The intellect gives you such advice: Why repeat yourself? But the heart wants to repeat over and over. The heart has never heard the word ditto. And while the heart keeps repeating, it is immersed in the nectar of His name. The more the heart repeats, the more we are lost in ecstasy. This is like the humming of the bee, but it can only be understood if you have had the necessary feelings.

    At the very end Nanak reminds us not to indulge in boasting of knowing Him or being able to describe His attributes, for that can only prove you to be the chief among fools. If by constantly singing His praises your ego is lost, you shall be the wise among the wise. If, however, talking of Him is strengthening your ego, if you think: Who else but I could know what I know? then you are the fool of fools!

  12. impressive, the middle of the movie was getting a bit too materialistic, but the last few parts were just down right awesome!!! The message has been recieved.

    I'll try to see if this works...i've got a court date on monday for a ticket.
