  3. It was there for a few years and now it is gone? on another note, does anyone have any idea how we could now order Gyani Tirath Singh's books?
  4. Does anyone on these forums know whether there are many or any English speaking Nirmalay or Udasian Mahants, Babay or Deray, particularly in western countries/the west. I have heard of Tirath Singh Nirmala and Daljeet Singh Nirmala in the UK... but i am not aware of the present location of the former, nor the credentials of the latter. Does anyone else know of other puratan sanatan Babas/Deras? SatNaam
  5. Regarding the next step after learning to put the letters together and read a little bit..... I came across this review in research for good learning material http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/learn-punjabi/35215-on-learning-a-language-learning-punjabi.html Towards the end it all starts to get a bit prolix.... but it has whetted my appetite to have a look at the book, and ill probably purchase it.
  6. Veerji i was wondering how long it would be until you posted! Brilliant post, i should have known you would have already written something, i just hadn't come across it yet whilst browsing. An excellent starting point, and seems definitely to be a better way to learn than the traditional way, especially when people (i.e. non-native speakers) haven't had previous exposure to the sounds of the language. I'll definitely be directing newbies to it, as well as teachers of Punjabi as a second language.
  7. Gurbar Akaal Khalsa Jio For all you knowledgable and experienced Punjabi speakers out there that i am yet to meet...... Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good books for learning Punjabi, aimed at people over the age of 5? There seems to be an extreme paucity if not non-existence of books in Punjab itself for English books teaching Punjabi, i only came across one really skinny book called "Learn Punjabi in 25 days". Loads of people talk about "Mahan Kosh" as being the best "dictionary", but as far as i'm concerned its an encyclopedia, and not all that conducive to learning the language when your grasp of the language isnt that strong. So does anyone know of any other books suitable for an adult learner? Thanks Khalsa Ji
  8. In responce to the original post...... Movement is the constant reality of life... might be slow or fast, and the product is often "Change" (ie movement from one perceived state to another). Movement sometimes causes friction or collision (aka conflict). The struggle of life is achieving "Harmony"... strongest, fittest, etc may achieve personal harmony through submission or destruction of others... alternatively Seva and Karma-Yog might lead to a similar balance in another way. I guess a bit like whether you want to achieve social stability in a society by democratic means (ie like Western Europe) or through autocractic means (like how it previously was in Syria, Libya, etc). Every culture and religion has this concept of "change and harmony/balance"... ie ying/yang, shiv/shakti, trimurti, "as you sow, so shall you reap", etc etc An awful lot more could be said on the topic, and one can stray into the realm of philosophical rantings that ultimately get nowhere..... but the basic point is that conflict is a product of motion/movement/change, so is a symptom of life and not it's underlying principle. Life doesnt have to contain conflict- however generally lifeforms tend to follow the line of least resistence and maximum gain; so therefore the bigger, stronger, fitter try take advantage of their position, rather than use it for mutual gain.
