  1. talking about hockey in india, its weird to note that although its the national sport it is still less popular compared to cricket

    Why?

I wonder what is happening to india's hockey team.

For one thing its the national sports but has always been conquered by punjabis...it seems lately that the arent many punjabi players in the team anymore.

Of course we have the legends in the team, but what about the new generation? i talked to my indian friends and they say that they is too much corruption in hockey and you must have more than talent to be playing at the national level representing india.

    Is that true?

Over in malaysia, we have a great hockey team as well, and used to have 3 or 4 punjabi sikhs who played for teh national team in late 70s and early 80s.

Right now, punjabi sikhs are great at high school level, but somehow you dont see many faces at the national level.

That is because only a select few muslim malays are nurtured and sent to sports schools or acedemies since they are young (everything is paid for them)

Leaving the others to fight for their place as they grow.

However what is the situation in India as hockey enthusiasts are aware of the detereoration of india's performance.

  2. hey

yeah well you could try Google for comparing or about.com ( its a great site )

im sure you'll do a good comparison once you find the facts yourself and compile it.

Getting it off others will be good as well but that would make you less prepared -- might need more time to read and understand it -- whereelse if you find it you are understanding it, reading it and it'll hardly take an effort answering questions from the audience later on

    hope that helps

  3. "According to Prof. Jeaneane Fowler of the University of Wales College, Newport: “The relationship between the many manifest deities and the unmanifest Brahman is rather like that between the sun and its rays"

Quoting the above lines, it sort of sums it up.

There is ONE God, deities are real, they are beyond humans yet not equal to the creator.

respect deities (even Idols, pictures etc) because they are a reminder to us of their existence and form.

that is why many deities are into many forms -- to appeal to the masses and to appeal to the human senses.

As long as the intentions are one -- to worship -- then everything will fall into place.

    =my two cents worth=

  4. Errr, because about 60% of it is in Pakistan and the rest 40% is in 'India'. I assume you are talking about Panjab, right? Or are you not Panjabi?

Since when is a Panjabi a 'native of Hindustan'?, he/she is always a native of Panjab.

Because we are not Hindus, that's why, otherwise what's wrong with being called Jews or even Muslim?

What planet are you living on? What identity crisis? Most Sikhs I have met are proud Panjabis? What are you? A Tamil or something?

OK, listen, I don't know where you learned your history but if you are a Panjabi, you have never been a 'native of Hindustan', such a place has never existed prior to 1947, and it is actually known as 'India'. This is a British invention, it has never been an actual country with one people or one race. If you are not a Panjabi then I apologise if I offended you.

    Kind Regards,

    MI

This is a great summary if we would like to saty on topic

MI has summed it up nicely.

I am a proud punjabi, and to further note that punjab existed before India

and is it true that guru nanak had written the word "hindustan" in one of his works in SGGS?

  5. These writers write great things and give some perspective for those who are not born into sikhism what our religion really is.

In some sense, most of us know a segment less than a reader of their book would eventually learn to appreciate and remember.

Personally, i have not really completed a book on any topic in Sikhism. Most probably i would know much of the historical details but not scholar-type comparisons on sikhism

anyhow, its always good to know a few non-sikhs are appreciative and non-biased.

  6. Sat Sri Akaal everyone,

  7. damn

for one thing i am not even born in india and for the record have not even stepped a single foot in india

I HATE it ever since knowing what happened during those days.

It saddens me to see so many of India born Sikhs seem to have forgotten what happened 20 years ago. Nothing angers and saddens me more than that fact.

I was born and raised in Malaysia, so were my parents. Malaysia being a muslim country, it is special to note that Sikhs are more respected here than in INDIA!

In my small city (ipoh) there are at least 20 Gurdawaras. All around Malaysia there are about 150 gurdawaras.

So i ask you, my brothers and sisters, change my view about the current India, i am trying to outgrow my hate for India, and subconsciously the minority of some of India's ignorant Sikhs
