got the following from a book on buddhism

the individual is formed but he is not responsible for his formation for the causes of the past had effected his formation. From sensation arises craving each of the six senses generates its own kind of craving the eyes crave 2 see beautiful sights, the ears crave 2 hear melodious sounds, and the body soft and fine objects.. craving is characterized by attchment to external objects and this gives rise 2 the next stage grasping, we grasp for the objects that we crave for and to which we feel an attachment.
