New Delhi, Oct 11, 2004: Harvinder Singh Phoolka, 49, a prominent human rights activist and advocate of the Supreme Court of India has received serious and direct threats to his life from Mr Jagdish Tytler, the Indian Union Minister for Non Resident Indians.

Mr Tytler has declared on national TV that he will harm and “finish†Mr Singh. This threat, from one of the most powerful persons in India, has put Mr Singh in extreme fear and insecurity.

We are calling upon you to intervene and ask the Indian Government to guarantee the security and the life of Mr Singh. We further ask you to exercise pressure on Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India to take political sanctions against Mr Tytler.
