Hi

my Muslim mates uncle was visiting Punjab in jndia and he decided to go to the golden temple, he said he was told by People there the guru ji wrote the mool mantra after hearing surat ikhkas from a Muslim saint ... as they both have a similar meaning of the oneness of God. Is this true ? Is it recorded anywhere?

False story. Sri Satguru jee (First Master) had disappeared from a river for a few days. During this time, Maharaaj had gone to Sachkhand. After he came back, he recited the Mool Mantar.

Anyways, what is "Surat Ikhkas"?

Ok interesting ... surah ikhlas is a short chapter in the Quran -

  1. Say: He is Allah, the One and Only;
  2. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
  3. He begetteth not, nor is He begotten;
  4. And there is none like unto Him.

Ikhlas comes from the root word Kh-li-sa meaning purity, sincirity etc it's where the word khalis (pure) also comes from which is where you get the word  khalsa

Well, the Sri Mool Mantar is longer and definitely much more deeper than the Surah Ikhlas.

Anyways, thanks for the info.
