Har Naam Araadhhehi Sae Dhhann Jan Keheeahi Thin Masathak Bhaag Dhhur Likh Paaveeai Rae ||

Those humble beings who worship and adore the Lord's Name, are said to be blessed. Such is the good destiny written on their foreheads.

Without the Lord, there is no other at all. Meditate on the One and only Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਹੀਰੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

Heerae Jaisaa Janam Hai Kouddee Badhalae Jaae ||1||

Human life is such a precious jewel, but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell. ||1||

ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਕਾ ॥

NAAM N JAANIAA RAAM KAA ||

You do not know the Name of the Lord.

ਮੂੜੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ 

Moorrae Fir Paashhai Pashhuthaahi Rae 

You fool - you shall regret and repent in the end! 

*Note: Guru Jee is here telling us, we are quite smart in doing so many other things, but, we are fools for not paying attention to the one and only thing that  really matters, and that is meditating upon His Saachaa Nao, to cross from this side of the creation, to our True home in Sach Khand.

ਜਗੁ ਕਊਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਤਿ

Jag Kooaa Naam Nehee Cheeth ||

The world is a crow; it does not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਗਿਰੈ ਦੇਖੁ ਭੀਤਿ 

Naam Bisaar Girai Dhaekh Bheeth |

Forgetting the Naam, it sees the bait, and pecks at it.

ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਿ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲੰਞੁ ॥

Jan Kae Poor Manorathh Har Prabh Har Naam Dhaevahu Har Lannj ||

O God, please fulfill the desires of Your humble servant; please bless me with Your Name, O Lord.

Maanas Janam Akaarathh Khovath Laaj N Lok Hasan Kee ||

You lose this human life in vain, and You are not even ashamed when others laugh at you

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਤ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਤਨ ਕੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੩੩॥

O Nanak, why not sing the Lord's Praises, so that you may be rid of the body's evil disposition?

Naam Binaa Sabh Jag Hai Mailaa Dhoojai Bharam Path Khoee ||2||

Without the Name, the whole world is polluted; wandering in duality, it loses its honor. ||2||

Naam Binaa Hoe Jaasee Dhhoor ||2||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, everything is reduced to dust. ||2||

Of all this expanse, nothing shall go along with you.

Without the Name of the Lord, all ostentatious displays are useless

Those who do not let the Naam become manifest within themselves, depart like thieves in the end.

ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਨਾਵਣ ਕਿਉ ਅੰਤਰ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ॥

Punn Dhaan Anaek Naavan Kio Anthar Mal Dhhovai ||

Giving donations , charities,  and countless cleansing baths can not wash off the filth within the heart.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਗਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਠਿ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਬੇਬਾਣੈ ॥

Naam Binaa Gath Koe N Paavai Hath Nigrehi Baebaanai ||

Without the Naam, no one attains salvation.

Stubborn self-discipline and living in the wilderness are of no use at all.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਜੈਸੇ ਸਰਪ ਆਰਜਾਰੀ ॥

Bin Simaran Jaisae Sarap Aarajaaree ||

Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one's life is like that of a snake.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਸ ॥

Bin Simaran Dhhrig Karam Karaas 

Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, all of one's actions and works are cursed.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਗਰਧਭ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ॥

Bin Simaran Garadhhabh Kee Niaaee ||

Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, one is like a donkey.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

Without the Name, there are no companions or friends. Liberation comes only by meditating on the Naam. ||4||

Changes do not happen when circumstances improve....
Changes happen when "You" decide to improve your circumstances!
