  1. I was listening to baba isher singh and baba ji said that keertan in sangat is the primary way of bringing tikaa to the mind, they said "raag dae naalon, sidhae shabadaa'ch bolna hor vee bahuta faidaa mandaa" babaji then proceeded to say when everyone sings together it brings more ikagartaa to the mind.

This is from file 11 of baba isher singh on gurmatveechar, forward to 58 minutes 30 seconds.

  2. Most of us have probably already heard the sakhi where khalsa panth does ardas that if sukha singh and mehtab singh reutrn alive after chopping the head of massa ranghar off, that dasam granth should be made into 1 granth, and if not then charitar pakhyan should be a seperate granth. I was wondering where this sakhi is written. I was under the impression that it was in bhai rattan singh bhangoo's panth prakash, but I didn't see it today as a looked through panth prakash. Perhaps I just skipped over it, but if anyone knows where this sakhi is written, could they please post it.

  3. the nihangs name has slipped my mind right now, but from what little parts of that steek I have read and have heard, it is much better than pandit narain singh's steeks, which I personally thought were a little shallow for how much people had bigged them up to me - giani narain singh doesn't really go beyond akhree arth. A nihang that is a vidyarthee of Baba Gurbachan Singh published these steeks which I believe were originally written quite a long time ago. If you ask around Nihangs in Punjab, I don't think it'll be very hard to find out where to get these steeks from.

  4. "The Vaar of Durga has been composed on Paurees, Those who singh this bani will not take birth again" .... do those words of maharaj not have any power?

Question: Is that tuk from chandi di vaar not a translation from markanday puraan? If so, should that line be taken as mukhvakh bani of Guru Gobind Singh Ji? I've heard people say it both ways, some say that since those words have left the mouth of guru gobind singh ji, 'ik saadh bachan atlaada' and thus they are true, however, others say that it is part of the translation and should be taken as such.

  5. in regards to AKJ, as much as I believe in raag mala as bani 100%, if we look through our history there have been many scholars and respected gursikhs that did not believe in it. Does this mean that they are correct? Absolutely not. However, the raag mala controversy has gone on for so long and has become so complex, that it really is hard to blame the modern day AKJs for not believing in it, especially when scholars such as Giani Gian Singh and I believe Kavi Bhai Santokh Singh had dubida in regards to it as well.

This is one of the reasons why anti-dasam people need to be defeated now, before their koorh spreads, and dasam granth becomes like raag mala in another 50 years.

  6. its bhagat kabir jee's saloks. You can get a recording of bhai jarnail singh doing it from gurmatveechar.com, or the recording I prefer by Gyani Raam Singh on (i think) keertan.org or the rajkaregakhalsa site. Gyani Raam Singh's recording of Bhagat Farid Jee's bani is really good too.

The recording you posted, although it may sound good, the paathi should do santhiya, cuz he is turning a lot of dulaavaas (an 'ai' sound) into laavaas (an 'ae' sound)

  7. there is a lot of sant gurbachan singhs katha on the vaaran on damdamitaksaal.org.

I was reading bits and parts of the kabits today after you posted it, and the padchhed also seems to be off, but they are still amazing. Its a shame that pracharaks dont stress the kabits more, they really do help in understanding gurmat.

  8. gsingh, no need to get so exited, if you read my earlier post you will see that i said "Then you fight for the freedom of religious practice through the approved methods of the land, as is being done in France re the Turban issue and continously in the west re the kirpan issue."

You forget that shastar were banned in Punjab post the loss of the 2nd Anglo-sikh war, when oppression fighting Sikhs like Baba Ram singh Namdhari took to carrying laatian in replacement of kirpan so they were no unarmed but still within the law.

Also gsingh, I am sure you have travelled abroad, could I ask where your defiance was when you were boarding the plane without (I assume) your kirpan?

I wasn't getting excited, the point that I was trying to make is that I don't believe that Sikhs should feel obligated at all times to follow the law of the land - as would be the case if the law of the land was considered the equivalent of the sharia of Sikh.

The airplane issue is a tough one. I really havent travelled abroad since receiving amrit di daat, but I do know some Singhs that have travelled through Canada, and also on direct flights from Canada to India without taking off their kirpan. They wore small kirpans and reasoned with the airport people and refused to take it off. Other Singhs I know just did ardaas and walked through the metal detectors.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the naamdharis of Baba Raam Singh's times also wear a kirpan in their dastaar?

  9. how if tomorrow England govt says kirpans can no longer be legally worn anywhere in England, what will you do? Move out of England? What will you do in the time it takes to prepare to move away? Will you stop wearing a kirpan for a month or 2? KoOo har smaan nhee raja. Ae Bhoopat sab divas chaar kae, chootae kart divajaa. Sikhs have always stood strong against those trying to oppress them or deny them religous rights, even going to the extent of openly defying the law when it contradicted the hukams of sachee sarkaar, I for one hope that this spirit never leaves Sikhs.
