  2. Think about two words people put together Breaking Amrit. Some talk about "Taking Amrit" and "Breaking Amrit". Ask yourself, how can you take something that isn't yours? And how can you break something that is Eternal? What does the word Amrit mean in Siri Guru Granth sahib Ji? THE FIRST AND HIGHEST AMRIT Here's what I understand. Bhai Gurdas Ji says that God is inside us like fire is hidden inside the wood. When someone is blessed enough with the highest state and realise God inside them, then God manifests in two spiritual forms - LIGHT and AMRIT. That great and blessed soul experiences light brighter than all the suns and their body being internally drenched in the sweetest amrit. They experience the kundalini rising, the opening of the third-eye and the tenth gate, hearing the unstruck melody and tasting the One Eternal Drop of Amrit inside them. That is called “Ek Boond Amrit”. When a great soul merges into the Eternal Supreme Being they become eternal as well : a-mrit meaning “Without death”. Only God is deathless, becoming one with God you drink the real internal amrit and become deathless. You are given this Amrit by God’s Grace, Gur Prasad. You cannot take it, only God can give it to the ones who have pleased Him. AYK BOOND GUR AMRIT DEENO TAA ATAL AMAR NA MU-AA. The Guru has blessed me with the one drop of Ambrosial Nectar, And so I have become stable, unmoving and immortal - I shall not die. SGGS THE SECOND AMRIT ========================= The second type of amrit is “Naam amrit”, this is what gets the soul to the state of “Ek Boond Amrit”. If you think of “Ek Boond Amrit” as the fire being revealed inside the wood, then “Naam Amrit” is the lit match that sets the wood on fire. “Naam Amrit” is the greatest happiness in this world and brings great joy and bliss and energy into the mind of the devotee who meditates upon it. SUKHMANI SUKH AMRIT PRABH NAAM BHAGAT JANAA KAY MUNN BISRAAM The greatest happiness in the world is the amrit naam of the Lord. The mind os the devotees are in wonderment. SGGS Only God in the form of the Eternal Guru, the Satguru, the one who has the light and amrit totally manifested inside them can GIVE this this gift to a mortal soul. Satguru Nanak Maharaj was and still is the Giver of Amrit, “Amrit ka Data”. Bhai Nand Lal Ji writes that when Guru Nanak Dev Ji disappeared into the river for three days, God gave Guru Nanak Dev Ji two things, humility (gareebee) and naam amrit. And Guru Nanak Maharaj went into the world to give out the greatest happiness to every single person he could. SATGUR VICH AMRIT NAAM HAI AMRIT KAHAI KAHAA-AY. The Amrit Naam, the Ambrosial Nectar Of the Name of the Lord, is within the SatGuru. SGGS AMRIT NAAM SATGUR DEE-AA. The Eternal Guru bestows the Amrit Naam, the Ambrosial Name of the Lord. SGGS 352 On receiving the Naam Amrit from the SatGuru, a mortal soul becomes totally devoted to it. It saturates his tongue, breaths, mind, heart, kundalini, third-eye tenth gate and each and every pore of their body, mind and soul. AYK NAAM KO THEE-O POOJAAREE MO KA-O ACHRAJ GUREH DIKHAA-I-O. I have become a worshipper of the One Name; the Guru has shown me this amazing wonder. SGGS 209 THE THIRD AMRIT =============== So how does a mortal soul receive the “Naam Amrit” from the Satguru, the Giver Of Amrit? That is the third type of Amrit. Whereas the other two were spiritual, the this one is physical. At Guru Nanak Ji’s time upto the ninth Guru, the devotees where initiated with Charan Amrit. The ceremony consisted of the Satguru ji dipping his toe into a bowl of water and the Satguru ji’s amrit drenched body would purify the water. It was called Charan Amrit – Foot Amrit. The devotee would drink this and be given the Naam – the holy word, the Name of God to meditate upon. You could say well anyone can chant the Name of God. Yes they could, but receiving it from Satguru ji is like getting a lit match. And repeating it just because someone else told you about it or you read about it, is like trying to set the wood on fire with an unlit match. Satguru Gobind Singh Ji transformed the Charan Amrit Ceremony into the Khanda-batta-da-amrit ceremony. Where the Five blessed souls, the Punj Piara who where fully enlightened and expereincing the highest type of Amrit “Ek Boond Amrit” stirred the water with the holy double-edged sword and chanted then Amrit Naam and Words of God. They were God as the Satguru and became Amrit Ka Data. The point of the the khanda-bhatta-da-amrit ceremony is to give the mortal soul “Amrit Naam” which they worship whole-heartedly and with Gur Prasad, or God’s grace reach the highest state of “Ek Boond Amrit.” Never to be born or to die again. The rest of the initiation ceremony is to give you discipline so that the 5 thieves do not steal your amrit naam. Eg if you become engrossed in lust and spend all your time after porno movies and magazines then you are no longer worshipping the Amrit Naam. If you keep your discipline wear you 5Ks have good sangat you will survive. You can’t break Amrit. It is indestructible. All you can do is break your discipline, and break your promise to worship ONLY the Amrit Naam. I hope that has helped you understand this important word, AMRIT.

  5. This Life is For You Lord Supremely respected holy ones, gathered together in the purifying presence of Guru Granth Sahib Jee, the Guru is embodied in you the holy congregation, the Sadh-Sangat. In order to make your time and your breaths successful, all of you beloved men and women have travelled here from near and far, leaving behind your worldy affairs just to be in the presence of the eternal and permanent, pure and immaculate Guru Granth Sahib Jee. Now lets take some time to search our Guru's teachings. Only that life is successful that comes to Guru jee - others are not even worth a penny. Our human body is just one house out of 8.4 million different life forms. Now to receive this human body we can't begin to imagine how many virtues we must have done. The aim of life is to meditate on God's Name, or Naam, and to praise Waheguru jee. Guru Arjun Dev jee says, "Bhaee prapat manukh dehuria, gobind milan kee eh teree bariaa having received this human body, it is your turn to unite with God, The Protector of the World " Today we have a body, a mind and time to praise Waheguru. But, a time will come when we have none of these. Guru Arjun Dev jee continues, "Avar Kaaj teray kita na Kaam, mil Sadh Sangat Bhaj Keval Naam Other works are of no use to you, meet the Holy Congregation and meditate only on Naam" Guru Tegh Bahadur jee, the ninth Guru-Maharaja, says open your eyes, you didn't bring your body from your last life and it won't go with you into the next life. You are proud of your sons, your wife and your house, but these things won't go with you. "Avar Kaaj teray kita na Kaam, mil Sadh Sangat Bhaj Keval Naam Other works are of no use to you, meet the Holy Congregation and meditate only on Naam" Guru Amar Das jee says, "Eh man pyariaa, too sada sach samalay - O my beloved mind always contemplate The Truth" But nowadays, a brother doesn't trust a brother, a father doesn't trust a son and to my great sadness a Sikh doesn't even have faith in Guru Granth Sahib jee. We have more faith in a wedding invitation. It says the wedding's is on so-and-so date at so-and-so place. We don't go the day before nor the day after, we believe what we read on a tiny piece of card with full faith. But, we don't have the same faith for all the words of Guru Granth Sahib jee. We have more faith in a wedding invitation than in our Guru jee. omeone asked me what the difference is between the great Sikhs in our history and the Sikhs of today. There's only a little difference: the historic Sikhs did what Guru jee told them to do. Today's Sikhs expect Guru jee to do what they say! Guru Amar Das jee says "Eh man pyariaa, too sada sach samalay - O my beloved mind always contemplate The Truth" But what is the Truth Khalsa jee? Bhagat Ravidas jee says, "Naam tayro aartee majan muraaray. Har kay naam bin jhoothay sagal paasaaray - Your Name, O lord is my adoration and ablution. Without the name of God, all ostentation is false." God is true, Guru is true, Naam is true and everything else is false. How do gather Truth? Guru Nanak jee says "Amrit vela sach nao vadaee vichar - Get up at early ambrosialtime, or amrit vela, and sing the praises of Vaheguru " But how many Sikhs get up then? Great Sants, or Saints, said change your own life and seeing you hundreds of thousands will change. People ask, ``What will happen to the Khalsa Panth, the Khalsa Nation?'' Why are you worried about the Khalsa Panth? Worry about yourself and the Khalsa Panth will be taken care of by God. The Khalsa Panth has the five pillars of beloved five Punj Pyare, it has the blood of the four sons of Guru Gobind singh jee as the the cement! People ask, ``When will the Khalsa rule?'' The simple answer is when we become Khalsa. But, look inside yourselves, while we are doing other things we can't be Khalsa. "Avar Kaaj teray kita na Kaam, mil Sadh Sangat Bhaj Keval Naam Other works are of no use to you, meet the Holy Congregation and meditate only on Naam" While we love other things, our soul can't break out and be with Waheguru. Love between friends and family is great indeed, but the greatest love is love for Guru jee. Like the love Bhai Mani Singh jee had in order to give his body to be chopped joint by joint, like the love Bhai Taroo Singh jee had in order to give his scalp rather than allow one hair on his head to be cut. People ask, ``If I meditate on God's Name, Naam Simran, then who's going to do my work?'' But, who's going to do your work when you are dead? Who was doing your work before you were born? These works of your were carrying on before you came, they carry on now and they'll carry on after you've gone. Guru Amar Das jee says, "Saath teray chalay nahee - Your companions do not go with you into the next world." They don't go with you. What does go with you? "Avar Kaaj teray kita na Kaam, mil Sadh Sangat Bhaj Keval Naam Other works are of no use to you, meet the Holy Congregation and meditate only on Naam" Time spent in the sadh-sangat, holy congregation, meditating on God's Name goes with you. When a flea bites a cow's udder it only drinks the blood. Milk is there too, but it is not in its destiny to drink the milk. In same way to find the the holy congregation, the Sadh-Sangat is to be greatly fortunate. The fortunate ones follow Guru Nanak jee and gain the true profits. A millionaire called Sayt, went to see Guru Nanak jee. Guru jee asked him, ``How much money have you got?'' He said, ``40 million Rupees.'' Another Sikh said, ``O protector of the poor, Gareeb Nivaaj, Guru jee he has got nothing.'' Guru jee asked him why he had lied. He said, ``I'm telling you the truth Guru jee.'' Guru jee then asked him how many sons he had. Sayt answered, ``Guru jee, I have one son.'' The other Sikh said, ``Guru jee he's lying again, he has got 5 sons.'' Guru jee said , ``Sayt why are you lying?'' Sayt said, ``Why would I lie to you Guru jee?'' Sayt was 60 years old he had a white beard. Guru jee asked him how old he was, he took out his dairy and started flicking back the pages he answered, ``Guru jee, by your grace I'm 12 years old.'' Guru jee said, ``What are you saying Sayt? You are obviously over 60.'' Sayt put both hands together and said, ``Guru jee I told you the truth. You asked me how much money I had, well I've had 40 million Rupees in my life which I've given away an d I'm left with only 1 million.'' Guru jee said, ``Forgive me Sayt for doubting you, your answer was true. Sayt is true.' Sayt said, ``Next you asked me how many sons I had, I said one, its true I have five sons but four are drunks only one is beloved of Guru jee, he is sensible and loves his parents. Then Baba jee, I said I was 12 years old because that's how many hours of service, meditation and holy congregation (seva, Simran and Sadh-Sangat) I've done. Every time I do one of these I note the duration. That's what I regard as my age, that amount of time will be taken into account not my body's age.'' Guru jee said, ``Sayt is true.'' "Bhaee prapat manukh dehuria, gobind milan kee eh teree bariaa - Having received this human body, It is your turn to unite with God, The Protector of the World." In the town of Kanshee, all the banks were being robbed. One of the robbers asked Bhagat Kabeer jee to join the thieves. He told them that wealth doesn't go with us into the next world, and if they really wanted to steal, then they should loot the wealth of God's Name from Waheguru! If you want to steal anything steal God's Name. Time is short you will regret wasting your life in the end. Some people ask, ``Who's seen the next life?'' The Guru's have seen it. I say receive amrit, get engrossed in worrship and devotion, but people say ``I've still got a lot of life left to drink and eat meat.'' Our time is short some people die in the womb some die in youth, there are no guarantees. If you didn't meditate on God's Name in your childhood then that was wasted. If you didn't meditate on God's Name in your youth then that was wasted. If you didn't meditate on God's Name in old age then that was wasted. If you didn't meditate on God's Name in life then the whole of your life was wasted. Raja ShivNabh's kingdom was visited by Guru Nanak Dev jee, the Raja was an atheist. Guru Nanak jee went to those places where the greatest sinners and evil people were. ShivNabh's ministers warned him not to meet Guru Nanak jee unless he wanted to be cursed. Four ministers were sent to meet Guru Nanak Dev jee and to stop him reaching the Kingdom. They offered a silver plate laden with diamonds at Guru jee's feet. They said, ``This offering shows our King's respect for you.'' Guru Nanak jee said, ``Tell him how can he respect me with mere pennies?'' The ministers were taken aback, all other saints had accepted this offering and left the King alone. ShivNabh was told this is no ordinary saint. Guru jee said to the ministers, ``Tell ShivNabh that if he wants to make an offering then he'll have to come and offer himself.'' ShivNabh was an egotistical man and didn't recognise how great Guru Nanak jee was. When a person thinks wrongly he'll not see other women as his sister, mother or daughter but as sex objects. Guru Nanak jee saw everyone for what they were. King ShivNabh was an egoist and thought that Guru jee was probably one too. Next he sent his dancing prostitutes to try and tempt Guru jee but they failed as Guru jee addressed them as daughters. The minister told ShivNabh. ShivNabh was shaken, the fear of God entered him and he thought ``Who is this uncorruptable man?'' Without firstly having the fear of God, love can't enter. Without love one can't worship Waheguru. "Gobind Bhau bhagat ka bhuka - God is hungry for the love of the Saints." Guru Gobind Singh jee says, ``Sach kaho sun leho sabhay jin prem keeo tin hee prabh paaio.. "I speak truth, all should listen, those who live in love are the ones who attain to God". ShivNabh had the fear of God enter into his mind. He bowed to Guru jee then put together his two hands and made a request. To ask for something you have to become humble. ``Gareeb Nivaz, O Protector of the Poor, I'm the king of this land. Be merciful and give me some seva, or service, to do. But the service shouldn't be small it should be great enough for a King, what can I offer you in return?'' Guru jee said, ``This is the path of love, no-one else can travel this path.'' ``Jo tho prem khelan ka chao. Sir dar talee ghalee meree aao. If you desire to play the game of love then bring your head to me on the palm of your hand.'' (Guru Nanak Dev jee). For love, the five beloved ones - the Punj Pyare, gave their heads to Guru Gobind Singh jee. Guru Nanak jee said, ``if you want to give an offering, then donate something of yours and do something that's going to help you in your next life.'' ShivNabh said, ``I will donate MY kingdom to you Guru jee.'' Guru Nanak jee said, ``O foolish ShivNabh, I said give me something of yours, this Kingdom isn't yours and its not going to help you in the next world. Your father couldn't take it when he died, your grandfather couldn't take it either and neither can you take it because it doesn't belong to you.'' Guru jee repeated his original question and asked, ``O ShivNabh, donate something of yours, the kingdom is not yours, the queen that rules it with you is not yours, no donate something that's yours!'' ShivNabh said, ``I will donate MY body to you Guru jee.'' Guru said `O foolish ShivNabh, this body isn't yours. Where are your father's and grandfather's bodies now? They had to leave them in this world, the body wasn't theirs and its not yours either. No donate something that's YOURS!'' ShivNabh said desparately, ``What can I give? Take my name.'' Guru Nanak jee said, ``ShivNabh, if you want to give me your name then show me the god Shiva's Navel, that's Shiv-Nabh means. You aren't Shiva, you can't give me his navel, can you?'' ShivNabh was nervous and confused, he said, ``I don't own this body, I haven't got riches, I don't own my Kingdom, the Queen doesn't belong to me, O Guru Jee what can I, I, I give?'' Guru jee said, ``But you're in possession of such a great thing that if you give it you'll be saved from birth and death.'' ShivNabh said, ``I can't see what I, I, I can give?'' Guru jee said, ``Give this I, I, I that you keep stuttering like a goat! You are not a kingdom, you are not a body and you are not your name.'' ShivNabh fell at Guru jee's feet a changed man, he said, ``Everything is Yours, nothing is mine, nothing is mine Guru jee.'' ShivNabh, the egotistical King, had a complete change in his state of mind. Now ShivNabh, the humble servant said, ``I'm nothing.'' Guru Nanak jee said, ``Now go back to your duties and rule the Kingdom.'' ShivNabh replied, ``I can't rule, before I, I, I was doing it, but now I'm nothing I can't do it.'' Guru jee said, ``If someone asks you who's Kingdom you are ruling, just say its Guru Nanaks. If someone asks you who do you belong to, just reply to Guru Nanak.'' "Rakho RakanHar Dyala, Nanak Ghar ke Gholay - Protect me o Protector, for I am a slave of your house says Nanak" (Guru Arjun Dev Jee) ShivNabh obtained the knowledge of God - BrahmGian. Guru Nanak jee said, ``Ask for something?'' He asked for God's Name, ``Bless me with Naam and that I may always have a place at your Lotus feet.'' We're ending the kirtan and katha now, but stay until Guru Granth Sahib jee has been taken to the Position of Peace - Sukh Asan. Don't leave now and turn your back on your Guru. Remember what happened to Moola Khatree the trader, he turned his back on the Guru and had to spend 12 more lives in birth and death. (Translator's note : Moola Khatree lived in a village visited by Guru Nanak Dev jee. Guru jee wrote on a piece of paper, `Is living true or is death true?'' Bhai Mardana jee took it around the village to get and answer only a trader called Moola wrote an answer, he said that only dying was true. Guru Nanak jee came and asked him if he would live by what he wrote but he said he had only written it for fun. Gradually he became a devout follower always by the side of Guru Nanak jee, he wouldn't even go home to his wife. She became ill and Guru Nanak jee told Moola to go home. Next time Guru jee came to their house, he knocked on the door. Moola's wife told Moola to hide in the store room, she was afraid she'd lose him again. She lied to the Guru by sayin Moola had gone out. Moola had turned his back on his Guru and uffered a fatal bite by a snake in the storeroom where he was hiding. His wife repented, and Guru jee in his mercy said, ``I will save him in my tenth form.'' At the place where the Gurdw ara Shikaar Ghat now stands, Guru Gobind Singh jee shot an arrow into a passing rabbit, when questioned by his Siksh why he'd killed an innocent animal, Guru jee explained that it was Moola and he had liberated his soul.) Khalsa jee, you shouldn't touch a Sant's feet, saying ``Waheguru jee ka Khalsa, Waheguru jee kee Fateh'' is the only acceptable greeting. Guru Gobind Singh jee said, ``The one who says `Waheguru jee ka Khalsa, Waheguru jee kee Fateh' has my hand above his head, the one who replies has my face towards them, but the one who doesn't reply in the same way has my back towards them!'' When a Sikh says ``Waheguru jee ka Khalsa, Waheguru jee kee Fateh'' to a Sikh then Guru Gobind Singh jee is there between them. Khalsa jee, Guru is Guru Granth Sahib Jee, Guru Gobind Singh told us: ``Agiaa bhaee akaal kee, tabeeo chalaaioo Panth Sabh Sikhan ko hukam haa, guru manioo granth Guru Granth jee maanio pargat gura kee dhay Jo prabh ko mil boch ha kojh shabd mel lay The Immortal Being issued the command and the Khalsa Path was created ALL Sikhs are commanded to accept the Granth as their Guru Accept Guru Granth for it is the now the body of the manifested Gurus Whoever longs for Waheguru, will unite by searching the Word.'' We are not to get attached to statues nor to bodies. We are to join with the Guru's Lotus Feet, meaning get attached to the Words of Guru Granth Sahib jee. ``Banee Guru, Guru Ha Banee vich Banee Amrit Saray - The Word is the Guru - the Guru is the Word - All nectar/treasures are found there-in" (Guru Ram Das Jee) We bow to statues and bodies, but remember only the True Guru is perfect: "Poora prabh Aradhee-aa, poora ja ka nao, Nanak poora paa-iaa, poora ke gun gao" Take the support of The Perfect Lord, the one who's name is Perfect. Nanak has attained The Perfect One by singing The perfect One's praises" By bowing to people and statues we become imperfect. By stirring water we won't get yoghurt. By two people saying the Fateh greeting, we say Waheguru four times and will become perfect. Baba Nand Singh jee's whole life was dedicated to Guru Granth Sahib jee. Every day he used to take Guru Granth Sahib jee on an excursion. Every night he would burn a fire-torch for light. Without a seed there's no tree without a tree there's no seed "Banee Guru, Guru Ha Banee - The Word is the Guru, Guru is the Word" Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh !
  6. matha tek means guru age sab kuch samarpan karna. maan, taan sab kuch guru aage.actually matha tekna means that v r offering everything 2 guru. v r moorakh, v dont know anything. guru ji u r everything for me. u r maarag-darshak. saada akal kuch nahi hai tuin kirpa karo es nu seedhi side laayo. sorry if m wrong.
  7. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Vaar 16 - Pauri 13 Pauri 13 (The true way of gurmukhs) As the path of fish in water is unknowable, the way of gurmukhs is also unapproachable. As the path of birds flying in the sky cannot be known, the thoughtful and search-oriented way of gurmukh is also imperceptible. It cannot be understood. Holy congregation is the straight path for gurmukhs and this world is full of illusions for them. As the four colours of betel catechu, betelnut, lime and betel leaf become one (red) colour (of joy-giving love), the gurmukhs also enjoy the cup of the Lord’s love. As the fragrance of sandal comes to reside in other plants, they merging their consciousness into Word reside in the hearts of others. By means of knowledge, meditation and remembrance, they like cranes, tortoise and swans expand their family or tradition. The gurmukhs come face to face with God, the pleasure of all fruits. 9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Vaar 16 - Pauri 14 Pauri 14 (The Lord is imperceptible) Brahmãs alongwith the Vedas have declared Him this is not, this is not (neti neti) and these all could not know His mystery. By becoming avadhut (a kind of superior yogi), Mahãdev also recited His name but his meditation could not attain Him. Ten incarnations also flourished but none could perceive ekañkar, the supreme Lord. Nine naths, the treasures of miraculous powers, also bowed before that Lord. Sesanag (mythical snake) with its thousand mouths remembered Him by thousands of names, but its recitation could not be accomplished. Sage Lomas rigorously undertook ascetic discipline but could not overcome his ego and could not be called a true ascetic. Everliving Markandey spent a long life but could not taste the pleasure fruit of the gurmukhs. All mentioned above remained deluded while living on earth. Translation By Dr Jodh Singh Ji

  12. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Author: Kulbir Singh Date: 04-17-03 15:53 One day Guru Sahib - Guru Gobind Singh jee asked sangat who the king was during the time of Bhagat Kabir jee. One Sikh said that the king was Humayun. Another Sikh got up and said that the king was in fact Babur. Another Sikh suggested that the king during the time of Bhagat Kabir jee was Sikandar Lodhi. Many other guesses were made. All this time Guru Sahib kept smiling and did not approve of any name. In the end, Guru Sahib said that the purpose of his question was to tell that the bhagat (devotee of Vaheguru) is greater than any other person in the world. He said that this is a perfect example that all of the sangat knows about Bhagat Kabir jee but no one remembers who the king was during the time of Bhagat jee. This proves that bhagats are remembered positively for ages in this world and the next world while the kings are often not remembered positively and mostly they are lost in the pages of history. For this reason, O mere manaa (mind, dil), Naam japp lai. waheguroo wahegurooooooooooooooo wahegurooooooooooooooo waheguroooooooooooo
  13. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Vaar 16 - Pauri 12 Pauri 12 (Holy congregation, the abode of truth) The Lord is beyond taste and words; how can His ineffable story be told by tongue? He being beyond praise and slander does not come in the periphery of telling and hearing. He is beyond smell and touch and the nose, and the breath is also wonder-struck but cannot know Him. He is away from any varna and symbolism and is even beyond the sight of concentration. Without any prop He resides in the grandeur of earth and sky. Holy congregation is the abode of truth where through the word of the Guru, the formless Lord is recognised. Whole of this creation is sacrifice unto the Creator. 15. The following is a reality that every Sikh household needs to recognize. If Sikhs do on follow the way of of Guru, if Sikhs do no teach their children the greatness of Sikhi, if Sikhs are more concerned about aquiring worldy wealth, watching Hindi movies, doing bhangra, diluting Sikhi to fit their "modern" or "western" needs, we will suffer the consequences. We have families that allow daughters to cut hair but make their sons have turbans, and we dare to ask why our sisters/daughters our marrying out of their religion? The truth of the matter is that these girls who run away with a muslim guy or hindu guy for that matter, never had Sikhi to begin with. Though Sikhs have increased in quantity, we have almost lost all of our quality. The beauty of being a Sardar or Sardarni is not understood or taught by parents. We should learn from the Muslims and how they never forget to teach their kids about Islam, we should teach our children the beauty and bliss in being a Sikh. We need to put pride of being a real Sikh (Amritdhari) back in the every Sikh household. "Larki Punjaban" should be a wake up call to all those parents who allow their kids to be "modern" and leave Sikhi, these parents are the ones who are sufferning the reality of "Larki Punjaban." Parents are happy to see their kids become modern, they are happy to see their kids speak in English, Parents take their kids for hair cuts, parents encourage their kids to go to parties and never encourage going to the Gurdwara, Parents want their kids to be close as possible to the western culture and we are shocked and offended by "Larki Punjaban," why? An average Punjabi Sikh can name 10 Hindi movie actors but can't name the 10 Sikh Gurus. In the world of today speaking Punjabi is considered "low class," or as not fitting in, to leave a flowing beard in any professional setting is considered odd, people are afraid or ashamed (sadly to say) of being Guru's children. I don't know what is the answer to all of these problems our nation is facing, I can say that if we ever want to get any where, we need to become Guru's children. We need to give all of ourself to Guru. We need to offer our head without any hesitation. We need become role models for the those who have none, and most importantly we need to do Ardas. We need to beg our Guru for his support, we need to beg for Sikhi from Him. We need to beg for help. Ardas is ultimately all we have. So I request from all of you, my sisters and brothers, everytime you bow your head in front of Guru, ask only for the gift of Sikhi, ask for a nation in which Sikhi and Sikhs can live freely. 17. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * WaheGuru WaheGuru WaheGuru WaheGuru WaheGuru WaheGuru WaheGuru * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh Kurbani kaur peered into the mirror, a tear slid down her cheek, smudging the make-up a bit in the corner of her eye. Another threatened to follow, she blinked it back and swallowed hard. She mixed up a little more of the bleaching powder into the bleaching creme, X-tra strength for dark or heavy hair, it read on the package. It burned as she applied it over her lip and just under her chin. She fought the urge to pick up the tweezers and shape her brows... She felt like she was turning into some sort of hideous monster. Carefully she walked to the edge of her bed, and picked up the translation of Anand Sahib... She had a 10-15 minute wait for the bleach to do it's work. Anand bhaiaa mayree maa-ae satguroo mai paaiaa|| O i am in ecstasy o my mother, for i have found my True Guru. i have found the True Guru with such natural ease, and my mind resound with the Music of Divine bliss. The jeweled melodies and celestial harmonies have come to sing the Shabd, the Word of God. The Lord dwells within the minds of those who sing the Shabad. says Nanaak i am in bliss for i have found my True Guru. She fell back on the bed, in transports of ecstatic bliss, was there anything more beautiful. She lay there for many minutes washed in waves of inner dimension, until she heard the alarm on her watch sound. It brought her back to the present. As she washed the bleach away, a pale, light, burned, stubble remained.. It felt sharp, and dry and looked unnatural against the dark of her brows and hair. She sighed deeply. It had taken so many years for her to be able to find the courage to receive Amrit. When ever she would hear that Amrit was to be given, she would head away from the camp, or Gurudwara. She didn't want to make a commitment she couldn't keep. Still she tied a white turban, when ever she went to the Gurudwara dressed in her tight white knit dresses, and leggings. One day as she told her self how devoted she was to Guru and how much love she had.. a voice replied, "yes devoted, but not enough to take Amrit, or learn to read nitnem, or get up early in the morning for sadhnah. " Finally, a Singh asked her point blank at camp one night while she was tucking in her sons.. Have you been baptized? When she said "no", it was as though no one would believe her. When she returned home, she went to her Siri Guru Granth Sahib, english, romanization and gurmukhi all in one. She wept and agonized. Should she Take AMrit. Was she worthy, ? Could she keep the commitments.? At the next camp, a Singh came to her and asked if her younger son could take Amrit, the older son asked if he could too. She asked a lot of questions about the commitments. She was given a set of kachara and told to take a bath and wash her hair. She put on the kachara. They felt so strange, she was overwhelmed. She felt like weeping, she lay down on her bedroll, and closed her eyes and went to sleep. She wasn't ready, the childrens father came late from work. During the ceremony, while they were waiting, sitting on the stage with other campers singhing keertan, the youngest came running out from a trip to the bathroom, His face was wet and his eyes glowing.. "They put water in my eyes," he whispered excitedly.., and then ran back to where the others were taking Amrit. The next week, they had driven a long ways to reach another camp, on time to be included among those receiving Amrit. Something profound had happened, and her life had begun to change. But she made mistakes... Right away, she couldn't stop removing hair from her face. Little by little in stages she had first let her eyebrows grow in, then hairs came in under her chin... Surely there were many more than had ever been there before. Lastly she got the courage to let the hair above her lip grow. It wasn't easy... the morning after keertan smagham, she had pulled out every one with her fingers, while driving home from the rainsubhai,,, something had happened there, as they sang the last shabad.. something like when she took Amrit, yet still, she pulled out every hair. She wept into the ramalas, begging Guru ji to forgive her and help her have courage. She sat with her fists clenched into tight balls, sitting on her hands, while something like a cactus patch, sprouted on her face. Then she went before panj pyare once more and confessed her mistakes. Still she wasn't happy, she looked so disfigured, and the bleach didn't help any, It just made her appear more bizarre, How could she try to hide something from the world, and yet show that she was a Sikh at the same time? She felt so ugly,, how could anyone love her, how could she love herself? Her best friend told her she "looked good, like a singhni," and that helped a little. But it wasn't anything she could talk about to any one, only Guru ji, and to Guru ji she wept copiously, wetting the ramalas with her tears. She made up her mind to stop with the bleach. The make up too, just made her feel dirty and ashamed. She went to the store and tried on a bathing suit. The top looked really attractive, but her kachara come out from underneath the bottom part, and then she saw her face. It just didn't match. She never wore that knd of suit for bathing again. Sometimes she felt proud, when she sikhrehtly noticed other bibi sitting on stage, who were touching their dhari with bleach. Then one day she had an attack of nerves and started pulling at her whiskers. Yes, that's what they were, rough and coarse whiskers. In better moments, she remembered that kittens have whiskers, and that every one loves kittens. Even, she saw a lady horse once that had long whiskers, and every one petted her affectionately. But this day, she couldn't help herself, and pulled out whisker after whisker. Oh, there were plenty left, just a few around the edges were missing, no one else would ever know. AND they would grow back!!! No doubt about that, they had always grown back. She even went to doctor, and he told her they could only be removed surgically. They always would grow back otherwise. Sometimes they got wet when she drank, she shuddered. Just like a mans... But she couldn't complain because after all men had so many more, and much much longer. Sometimes, every once in a while, it made her feel like a smaller version of a Singh, but more often she looked at the smooth, beautiful, glowing, radiant faces of other women, and wept inside with shame. When she looked in the mirror, sometimes she felt like she was looking at Guru Sahibs face. So she could not protest, yet still she wept. Then one day her beloved brother was in an industrial accident at work. His beard was caught in machinery, and nearly half was yanked out. He suffered, pain and shame. He sat behind Baba ji, and read from the new Siri Guru Granth Sahib, this one had just one line. She wanted to try to read it, but didn't dare. As she watched her brothers lips moving, while he recited gurbani, a glow lighted him. Looking at his face with half his beard missing, suddenly she saw herself, how she looked when she pulled out half her whiskers. All this time she had thought she was disfigured, when her hair grew in, yet it dawned on her consciousness now, that actually all these years she had been disfiguring herself, by removing her hair, and painting her face. Even some other ladies in the community had followed her mistakes. She went to her room and wept some more. She had tried so hard, and it had all ended in failure. She had taken off her tight white knits, and started wearing salvaar kameez, over her kachara, wearing black to reserve her inner strength. Removing the white turban she had grown up in, in favor of keski, she tied a black one and had worn it day and night, despite many protest from the childrens father. She slept in her kirpan, and kachara, and kept all 5 of her kakar ,even in her isnaan, and had never, ever removed her kara since the first day she put it on, 20 years ago. And still she failed. She had struggled to learn her nitnem, gotten up at 3:30am every morning for AMritvela, and done naamsimran for at least an hour, for the past year or two, carefully she never ate outside and did all her cooking in a karahee, and still she failed miserably. She failed because she hadn't understood, but now, she did understand, and she firmed her resolve never to make foolish mistakes again. Bhaisakhi day came, and she went alone to panj pyare, weeping. They would not allow her with out the children's father. She wept harder, "He is fed up with me," She wept so piteously that they accepted her, but with restrictions, until the children's father came also before panj pyare, She was so grateful. They gave her some instructions, and bani to recite. And told her "do not touch your face, it is poison." She wore the kesri keski that she received in the AMrit sanchar for nearly a year after, day and night as her chunni, and touched her face only with the kesri kupra covering her hands between it and face, until her hands could be trusted to touch with love, rather than remorse. The children's father had been completely fed up with her, and had threatened her security, but she knew, just as she had struggled with change, he also was going through incredible adjustments. Of course that didn't really make it any easier to deal with the flares of anger,, but it drove her closer to Guru Sahib, her shelter, her honour, as she frequently wet the ramalas flooding them with her tears. Something had happened, she changed. Everybody said so. It was true. She had changed. Now she was a Singhni for real. Maybe she wasn't beautiful, or perhaps she didn't even know what beauty was, her daughter always told her she was beautiful, but that was just love wasn't it. She knew now though, that she was loved. Loved by Guru Sahib, and loved by sadhsangat. She knew Wahe too... because inside she had Guru... waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru... Because, rather then being apart from, she now was a part of~ONE body of Khalsa~ONE Waheguru~
  18. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh This article provides some historical background and information related to the Damdami Taksal. The purpose of this article to not to put one taksal ahead of other, but to set the record straight and provide some historical persepctive to topic being dicussed. The word Sikh means a student (of the Guru). Ever since the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Sikhs have been learning from the Gurus and the Bani of the Gurus. Long before Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa Panth, he sent some Sikhs to Kashi, an ancient learning center of the Hindus to study Sanskrit, other religions and languages. Those Nirmalas were the religious scholars who help spread Sikhism to a great extent. They were quite influential in converting Hindus and other people into Sikhism. They were also taught by the the Tenth Guru. They lost their old influence almost 100 years ago. Some of them even today posses deep and immense knowledge of Sikhi which is beyond the reach of many Sikh scholars. The Tenth Guru personally taught 48 or so students. Many of them started various learning centers (taksals or seminaries). Bhai Mani Singh was one of them. So was Shahid Baba Deep Singh. Bhai Mani Singh was the most promiment of Guru's students and senior to Baba Deep Singh as the latter was his assistant who helped in preparing the paper, ink and "kalams," etc. We all know Bhai Mani Singh was the scribe of Guru Granth Sahib. Baba Deep Singh made four copies of the same Guru Granth Sahib. The orginal is lost. What we see in our homes and Gurdwaras is a copy of the same Guru Granth Sahib was copied by Baba Deep Singh When Guru Gobind Singh left for South, he directed Baba Deep Singh to stay behind and take care of the Damadam Sahib Gurdwara and preach Sikhi. The fact is Baba Deep Singh NEVER went to South with the Guru. If someone is telling you otherwise, this is a PURE LIE unless someone can produce a genuine historical evidence (not something written by a shardhavan, but illiterate person). I have noticed that an effort is being made to twist the Sikh history by some vested interests. Bhai Mani Singh is said to have accompanied the Tenth Guru to the South, but even he was sent back by the Guru from Baghaur to take care of Sri Harimander Sahib and other Panthic matters. The Taksal, as we know it, was actually started by the Sikhs of the Guru. No doubt the Guru had blessed Damdama Sahib and had made a prophecy that some day many Sikhs will study at this place and become Gyanis and learned. This has proved to be true. Baba Deep Singh was a very learned man and he taught Sikhi to many people. He fought battles with the Mughols alongside with Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and he was the founder of the Misl Shahidan. He achieved martordom at Sri Amritsar while fighting the mughol forces. The Singhs of Shahidi Misl were famous for fighitng in the forefront and achieving martyrdom. It was due to their bravery that they established Misl Shahidan. After Baba Deep Singh's martyrdom, some of his relatives took possesion of the Gurdwara and eventually became corrupt Mahants like Mahant Narainu of Nanakana Sahib. Their purpose was not to preach Sikhi, but to collect offerings from the Sangat and offer nothing in return. After few generations all sort of evil things started to happen right at the holy site. So much so that the Damdama Sahib Gurdwara was given as part of the dowry to one of the daughters of the Sardars who "owned" it. It was situated in the state of Patiala. Many Sikhs had complained by the wrong deeds committed by the custodians of this sacred place. Keeping in mind the religious significance of this place, the Akalis were trying since 1930s to bring this under the control of the SGPC, but the Maharaja of Patiala did not let it happen because he was anti-Akali and did not want their influence in his area It was only in the 1960s (after the influence of the Maharaja was gone after his state was also annexed to India) that it was recognized as the 5th Takhat after the SGPC approved a life-time pension for the custodian of the Talwandi Sabo Gurdwara. It was at that time it came under the control of SGPC. Sant Harchand Singh Longowal was its first Jathedar. Almost all the branches of Damdami Taksal are actully the branches of the same Taksal that was started by Bhai Mani Singh. Baba Deep Singh was certainly a link in the same "Sampaerdayee Prampra," but that link ended shortly after his martyrdom, but Bhai Mani Singh's "Sampaerdayee Prampra" continues to this date. Bhai Mani Singh had 29 members of his family who achieved martyrdom for the Panth. Here is the list family member of Bhai Mani Singh who achieved martyrdom: 1. His grandfather Bhai Ballo Ji, during the time of Guru Hargobind Sahib 2. Eleven brothers 3. Seven sons 4. Ten grandsons 5. Bhai Mani Singh Shahid himself According to Jathedar Kirpal Singh (former student of Taksal and former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib), the Bhindranwali Taksal is one of main branches of the same Taskal that was started by Bhai Mani Singh. Of course, it was a "Sampaerdayee Prampra" or school of interpreration of Guru Granth Sahib that was started by the Tenth Guru. The Taksal at Sato Ki Gali (Amritsar run by Sant Makhan Singh) traces its origin to Bhai Mani Singh who was taught by Guru Gobind Singh himself. Bhai Vir Singh, a great Sikh scholar was also the product of this Taksal. So were Sant Amir Singh and Sant Kirpal Singh. Baba Bishan Singh Muralewale was a student of Bhai Mani Singh's Taksal. His dera is now in Begowal (which was moved from Pakistan, now run by Bibi Jagir Kaur, former presidnet of SGPC). His student was Sant Sunder Singh who started the Bhindran Taksal. His student was Sant Gurbachan Singh Khalsa, and his student was Sant Kartar Singh and his student was Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. This Taksal is known as "Bhindranwale Gianian Di Taksal." Sant Sunder Singh preached Sikhi far and wide in Punjab. There seems to be no trace of Bhindran Taksal before Sant Sunder Singh. There are several branches of Damdami Taksal at this time: 1. Satowali Gali Taksal, Amritsar 2. Damdami Taksal Bhindran, Bhinder Kala 3. Damdami Taksal Mehta, Gurdaspur 4. Taksal at Talwandi Sabo (Damdam Sahib) that has Gurmat college and a technical college I think there are probably few other branches in Gurdaspur and some other places. There are some other Taksals as well: 1. Jawaddi Kalan Taksal (started by late Baba Sucha Singh Jawaddi) 2. Nanaksar Taksal near Ludhiana Bhai Mani Singh's family is one of the greatest shahid family in the Sikh history. The fact is the current Taksal owes more to Bhai Mani Singh than to Baba Deep Singh because his line of succession ended pretty after him. In conclusion, the Taksal has several branches. The main Taksal where most of the scholarly work is done at Satowali Gali in Amritsar. It has also produced Teekas of Guru Granth Sahib by Sant Kirpal Singh and Bhai Vir Singh. Bhai Vir Singh did not complete the Teeka. He died before he could complete it. However, he has done real solid work in teaching Gurmat and writing about Gurmat. Even Giani Kirpal Singh (former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat who was killed by some misguided Singhs was a well-respected scholar and had produced some books of great significance. He was a student of Sant Gurbachan Singh Khalsa. The Sato Ki Gali Taksal has produced a significant amount of relgious literature. Gur Fateh
  19. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Vaar 16 - Pauri 11 Pauri 11 (Creator’s cup of love) With a single Word that formless Lord created the whole world. Extension of the Lord (this world) can in no way be measured. By no account this world can be understood because all numerals and letters come to an end for this. Myriad kinds of its materials are invaluable their price cannot be fixed. Even through speech, nothing can be said and heard about it. This world is unapproachable, unfathomable and full of mystery; its mystique cannot be understood. When it is impossible to understand the creation, how could its Creator’s greatness and His residence be known? The pleasure fruit of gurmukhs is the holy congregation where by merging the consciousness in the Word that invisible Lord is visualized. In the holy congregation, the unbreakable cup of love is drunk by becoming tolerant. Translation By Dr Jodh Singh Ji
  20. It seems to me that sex is vied as an obstacle on the path to God. Some very religious Sikhs don't even look at girls, eventhough for sure they have sexual desires. It seems to me that they are depraving themselves from our basic need since this desire comes to us so naturally at puberty. How come that one cannot be fully sexually active and still be one with God? Why having sex in a room of the house would create negative energy if we would meditate in the same room? If that's the case then sex is seen as not pure. Is sex pure if we have honest intentions towards the person we are having sex with?
