In one of the accounts Sukha says to the young man he's doing to him what someone had done to Sukha. So he may be victim turned victimizer as often happens. He may also be sexually repressed. It could exacerbate his underlying violence.

I have heard of these things happening in Dals, Deras (not first-hand accounts) etc, basically in places where a lot of males are together and these abuses happen.

If rumours are true, then maybe like suggested, it is to do with sexual repression and someone like that should be married early.

I have spoken with Sukha Singh in the past a few times, most recently in the past year. I believe he is living up in the north of England now and is married.

I know nothing to say if the allegations are true, but he was helpful and knowledgeable when I spoke with him. His knowledge of Sikhi is very deep.

There are a lot of problems with people in sikh community marrying late, totally messed up behaviour and abuses, it is also affecting people in their sikhi. The behaviour from the last few decades suggests that many people should still be married before their 20s, just like it was a few generations ago....

How much does that Sikhi resonate when it doesn't even prevent the person from violating another like is being alleged?

I had a tutor at uni many years ago called Stuart Millar (Scots fellow), there were some elective units on the course I was studying, and a friend I met at uni persuaded me to attend one on Sexual Abuse (I did NOT want to simply because I was very uncomfortable with the subject, but did in the end because my friend pushed me, I think it was kismet and hukam). That lecturer was an expert in his field of child development and this subject. He told me that predators are often abused themselves, and that they consciously work themselves into certain types of positions of power to access vulnerable people. Like priesthood or religious orgs.  They are extremely devious. A decade later, that friend (who is one of my closest friends till this day) told me about how she was abused from young by her stepfather. She is a very strong women who works as a successful teacher, and has a steady relationship with two children now.

so the tutor became your friend, or are these 2 different people?

Let me know if this pic will be found attractive by western women?

Kaam is basically a mental illusion, but its very powerful one.

From what I have read, women are attracted to men differently from how men are attracted to women. Men are more attracted to looks, while many women are attracted to things like status and personality! For example Prime Minister Boris Johnson !

Bro, Daas thinks that you are talking about people in general, but what has been your observations on people, who are into Sikhi?

Can excessive sexual repression of straight males lead to homosexual tendencies or any other forms of deviant sexual behaviour?

    Bhul chuk maaf

I reckon it can. It seems to be implied this happens in jails, so when the other gender is unavailable some people can't seem to control themselves.

  2. So this whole thread, what does that mean for most modern styles of keertan performed by keertanis? Isn't most of the keertan we hear "bhangra" keertan, as opposed to Raag. And especially one jatha comes to mind, their so-called keertan is really dancy, like people in the sangat are rocking their heads front and back and side-to-side, and the keertanis are trying to be like rockstars?

Is most of keertan not performed in Raag bringing sangat into this mentality anyway, into bhangra/gidha mentality, or dare I say most modern keertan styles came from bhangra/gidha manmatt?

Isn't a big fix to bhangra/gidha actually performing raag keertan?

At the moment, both harmonium keertan and modern bhangra/punjabi music tunes are sub-par compared to the standard set by Guru jis playing Raag keertan using the instruments Guru jis provided to us, instruments which the panth seems to have just thrown to the side...

Since there is so much manmatt towards sikh keertan, this topic should not be surprising at all....

In my early 20s I could sit in one asana from 2.5 - 3 hours motionless. I had reached a state where no thought existed, time use to stop, breath use to stop for a couple seconds. I dont know what it was. But it was like Sunn. Then I married, kids and for 20 years I was engaged in worldly activities. Now I can hardly sit motionless for 1 hour. I lost all the kamaiye. Good Luck everyone.

yeh I lost a lot of simran practise and sitting in asan due to working shifts usually longer than 9-5.

I recently finished a contract at work during this pandemic lockdown, so I am trying to get some of it back!

  4. sarbloh.info is a really informative site.

I think this thread works as a good associative thread.

it is nice the website has still survived whereas many other sites have come and gone, including many mentioned in this topic.

Just bumping this thread into 2021. I hope sarbloh website gets converted so we can see the pictures again, as currently it is stuck in Flash which is now obsolete.

  5. I have created a new post on reddit. since I don't really have time to moderate on reddit, I have just posted links to this forum. This way people on reddit can view the topics and at the same they can click on links to view the threads on sikhawareness site.

This is how it looks, I don't really have much time to edit the posts properly, but any suggestions let me know.

Under the control of the SGPC, this practice of Dasshera was stopped. However it still takes place at Hazur Sahib and the Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa. In a dispute about the leadership of Buddha Dal the Sikh mystic Akali Baba Mitt Singh said that who ever ensured this tradition with Shastar Puja, would remain intact, should be the rightful leader, to which Baba Kaladhari agreed. According to Uday Singh, in the foreward to Dusshera Mahatan Granth Sahib, he states that the worship of weapons was an ancient practice of the Devas and when the Guru formalised Shakti into the tradition of Bhakti, the worship of weapons was important to the Khalsa. Due to the Khalsa being a Raj Yogi, and needing to prepare the mind and spirit for battle. According to him this was stopped in the Akal Takht Sahib by the new commitee after 1919. At Hazur Sahib, Baba Mitt Singh ji had this Granth written by Bhai Ram Singh and Sewa Singh. it was first printed in the 1940s. The path is Akhand for nine days with the bhog on the tenth with these following bani's repeated: Jap Sahib, Akal Ustat, Bachitra Natak, Chandi Charitra Ukhati Bilas, Chandi Charitra, Chandi di Var, Gian Prabodh, Chaubis Avatar, Ram Avatar, Krishnaavatar, Nihkalanki Avatar, Paras nath, Shabad Hazare, Svaiye, Khalsa Mahima, Shastra Nam Mala, Charitropakhyan first invocation, on the last day. Jap Sahib, full Chaupai Sahib, Ramavatar, Zafarnama Sahib, Svaiye, should be read.

Nice one. I love it when people post the original Gurmukhi text.

yeh so do I, I just love it!

  8. since this thread has been brought back..

I am wondering the importance of khanday dee pahul for Nirmalay The original 5 Nirmala sikhs were Singhs right, but were exempt from some rehit such as shastar due to the circumstances?

However, we are no longer in those circumstances, so do Nirmala Singhs keep some shastar rehit, such as keeping the basic kirpaan? I read about a historical incident where some Nirmala Singhs got beaten up by Nihangs, because these Nirmalay weren't wearing their kakkars.

Also can someone join Nirmalas without taking Khanday dee Pahul, or would someone take Pahul to become a member of a Nirmala ashram or Akhara (is akhara an appropriate term)? Are there Nirmala groups which don't take pahul anymore? I read in history that the King of Patiala made Nirmalas take Pahul when creating an organisation or jathebandi for them, which seemed to point at them not taking mandatory Khanday dee Pahul before that?

Also I do know that Singhs used to switch between Nirmala and Nihang sampradaiye now and then, probably still happens.

Also did Nirmala Singhs attend Sarbat Khalsa organised by the Dal Khalsa, how would Nirmala Singhs have been viewed after Khalsa was organised into Budha Dal and Tarna Dal by Nawab Kapur Singh?

For a busy professional what is the best way to find a life partner for Sikhs in the U.K? Would it be matromonial websites if your busy or getting your parents to talk about it to other families at the local Gurdwara? I don't think it would be ideal for me to approach or speak about it to anyone in the Gurdwara about it as its not really the ideal place to meet women or talk about these things in my opinion.

still join your local gurdwara matrimonials

  12. Definitely look at redesigning the layout.

I think the button links on the top that include Nanak Naam and sikhi in snippets, they need to stand out a bit more - maybe change the colours of the buttons slightly so they are more visible.

Also the number of sections or Forums could be overwhelming for some, so maybe make this front section more compact so they can be viewed more easily.

Also when we are scrolling through a thread, I think we can make this section more compact. Although being wide allows more information per line, I really think it will be a good idea to compact the comment section, it will look more clean instead of long lines going across. Also will allow it to be easier to scroll down the page, and just allows easier reading.

People will be using smartphones more to access content these days, especially the youth and also sikhs in India, so it is very important to look at the mobile interface.

So I looked at the mobile layout. As soon as I scroll down to Forums section the colours are very light so makes it difficult for anything to stand out. The colours and font are different to the desktop site, that is why it doesn't stand out as much.

Still in mobile layout, I think the font in threads is too faint. I was looking at websites like Facebook and Reddit to see how the fonts are more readable on mobile, so maybe use some similar fonts to those.

Also, I think it's a very good idea to have a mobile app for the site, it can just be a wrapper which allows you to view the site inside a browser in the app. Anyone could probably do this actually.

Also I think we need a way to share topics and threads to social media like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit, by having a button available. Also for the pictures section a way to maybe share to Instagram and other social media.
