Maybe, but the rapes and murders of low castes girls in Bihar/UP  are done by hindus right?

Is this the sign of an oppressed community

No. But then we have a different idea of what it means to be oppressed.

Look at the source of your article and that should tell you a lot. But I can't see any mention of the hundreds of Sikhs who were expelled from their farmlands in UP about 2 weeks ago. That is a more visible sign of an oppressed community.

in India pends, langar would probably be done sitting outside, or perhaps tents can be set up.

The audio would be much louder than in the uk langar halls, as it would be for open air.

Village gurdwaras don't have tents. Many of them will have indoor langar-khanas but I have not seen any that have some audio system there.

I have seen audio in Langar hall in UK

The gurdwaras in UK have an audio system that whatever is being played from the darbar is relayed in the langar-khana. I'm talking about a specific system for langar-khanas that can be used regardless of whats happening in the darbar. In the UK though, no-one is listening to the darbar in the langar-khana. They are too busy talking to each other.

  4. Two brothers both wanting the same woman to be their wife. This story is quite known in ancient Hindu tales. From this I see that 2 brothers who were united in absolutely everything, ended up fighting against each other as they both wanted the same thing. It led to their demise at each other's hands. Not only theirs at that, but both their armies which had established their rule over the 3 worlds.

There have been other such stories in which "women" were created for the same individual purpose - Mohini and the rakhsas for one.

That's good! Did you saw it by hand or use a machine?

Where did you get the design? Did you make it up yourself?

I used a machine to cut the wood to size - my friend has one which came in very handy. I designed it myself mentally on how i wanted it to look and then sketched it out. It isn't perfect and i spent a lot of time getting the internal screws to align. But in the end it does the job perfectly.

  7. This Charitar is heavily based on the sakhi of Indar Dev and Ahaliya, the wife of Rishi Gautam. It focus' on the efforts of Ahaliya to hide her deceit. This deceit involves using her daughter. This is one of the points that stand out, that Ahaliya had to rope in other family members to help her. In the end, all three involved are punished heavily - Indar Dev, Ahaliya and Ajni.

One other aspect that stood out was the name of the friend who took Ahaliya's proposal to Indar Dev - Jogeneshri. A play on the word "jogni" which is kind of a witch, evil woman etc. The eshri meaning lord of tells us that either the name or title of the woman. It seems a little unusual because Ahaliya is the wife of a Rishi, but her friendship/trust is with a jogni.

  8. 2 hours ago, ipledgeblue said:

Well what I am thinking is that there will probably be some kind of speaker system in most pends outside the gurdwara, During the langar, there should be some kind of prachar happening that can be heard in the location where langar is happening, and also those partaking in the langar need to be encouraged to do the sewa as well. The more people are involved the more likely they will want to join...

That can be done but once the diwan is over no-one is going to use the speaker system to do parchaar. What would be more feasible is if there was an audio system in the langar-khana which could be used to do parchaar to sangat in langar. But I haven't seen any Gurdwara in the west do this, nevermind Gurdwaras in Panjab. Here in the west, the langar-khana is used as a social meeting place which is why it's not used.

    Then the wife responded laughingly,(16)

‘This cat, which is gone under the bed, just think, it is earning all the praises like (Lord) Indra.’(18)

‘Please, Munni, don’t be angry at this cat as it has come to stay here considering it as a (nice) household.

    ਰਘੁਬੀਰ ਕਿ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਕੋ ਉਚਰੋ ॥੧੯॥

‘You better go away from the house, conduct an oblation and meditate upon the God’s Name.’(19)

    ਸੁਨਿ ਬੈਨ ਤਹੀ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਾਤ ਭਯੋ ॥

Accepting this, the Rishi went away and the woman took Indra out.

Then there should be regular langar there where different kinds of sangat comes there, including the poor of the pend.

In my village all the choorhe have become christians. There are 4 churches in my village. Whenever there is a program that involves langar at the Gurdwara, the choorhe stand outside at a distance from the gurdwara. When the diwan is completed and sangat come to the langar-khana the choorhe join them to eat. They absolutely do not come to sangat. Saw it with my own eyes.

  11. Got quite a few things going there Dal. Thanks for the aphids tip. Will try that as they can affect fruit trees. Ants don't seem to be a problem though.

Good work on recycling that wood! 😀 I recently constructed a barbell stand with the wood that from our old porch. It had begun to sink, so we had roof replaced. Had a lot of wood from that so decided to use it for a mini-project. Built myself a 4 rack barbell stand. Have around 120 kgs on it. It is quite solid.

  12. Gardening has been a bit of a washout for me this year. Having caught the damned corona virus in the months where I would have been doing the garden means that I have missed the proverbial bus. Will just be concentrating on my fruit trees this year. But it will give me an opportunity to clear the soil of weeds etc more thoroughly this year.

I have been informed that giving the garden a rest from planting/growing every few years is also very beneficial for it.

I started a discussion about this being a bujjar kurahit.

Well done for standing up. It's a shame that sikh student groups like BOSS even, prefer to support vegetarianism rather than take a stand against halal.

Veer ji our purtan itihasic granths such as Suraj Parkash, Guru Nanak Parkash, Panth Parkash etc have all the saakhis which can be used to fight these Anti Sikh converting groups.

The problem in villages throughout Panjab, is the gurdwaras are dead. People go to gurdwara sproadically throughout the day, as some kind of good luck charm. There are rarely diwans held, and even then people still find excuses not to attend. Having too many gurdwaras in one village doesn't help either.

People from villages would rather go to Darbar Sahib/Anandpur Sahib once every few months than go daily to the Gurdwara in their village.

In this video, the Sikhs tried to defend themselves with swords against ak-47s. That's not going to work.

Khalsa Aid could be helping the Afghan Sikhs rather than the rohingyas or syrians, where international agencies are already placed. But it won' t fit their media profile to do so.

Waiting for abuse from madman who was pretending to speak behalf of all Afghan Sikh's that they don't want to leave Afghanistan

There are some Afghan Sikhs, and many other Sikhs living outside Afghan, who in their hearts wish to see some Sikh presence in Afghan, because of our history there. We have already seen this in Pakistan after partition. Those Sikhs know that once out of the country, return will be very difficult and the assets of those Sikhs, will be appropriated by the afghans.

I was always of the opinion that the Sikhs should be more prepared and armed in a country awash with weapons. Afghan is reputed to be a country where there are more weapons than people.

  16. Whats shocking is how gullible and desperate people are converted to other religions, whilst not really improving their lives in any way.

Some 150 years ago, in a united Panjab, many lowcastes became christians in the hope that their position in society would be elevated but they are still where they were before conversion.

If these preachers could heal non-functioning kidneys, do you think that there would be any need for 6 years of study, an immense financial outlay, and then working day-to-day to pay that off?
